Height: 5' 5.5"

Default My scale said I lost 26 lbs. overnight

Weird thing happened...I woke up and my body felt bizarre--almost like I could feel my organs sinking down into their position (as if they'd been floating around in space or something all night). I peed, got on the scale, and it showed a whopping 26 lb. weight loss. I figured I was standing on the scale wrong because I knew it wasn't right. So I got off and got back on--from 234 to 240. Wrong! Got off and got back on--250. Again--259. (This number I wanted to keep! ****, I wanted to keep the 234!!!) Again-260.0. Again-260.0. Again-260.0. So I stuck with the 260.0 number since it seemed to be consistent and seems about right (I've been stalling and fluctuating for the last two weeks and it's been SO frustrating, but I think 260 is correct.)

What in the world is going on? The scale has never shown any wonky behavior prior to this. I would think it was definitely a scale problem if the weight hadn't gradually increased to a correct number. The gradual increase to normal seems strange.

Any thoughts?

The scale is broken. You don't even lose 26lbs overnight when you give birth.

If it's a digital scale, have you changed battery recently? Or, is it on an un-even surface like carpet? That will make all sorts of weird numbers flash up!

I don't think it's broken because it eventually went to my correct weight and stayed consistent.

goodforme--It is a digital scale and it's on tile. I've never changed the batteries so I'll change them tonight and hopefully that'll solve the mysterious numbers. Thanks!

When I stepped on mine this morning, it said I lost like 5 pounds which wasn't true. In the morning I'm very wobbly and unstable ha , so I weighed myself again with my head against the wall for balance and it said I dropped like .6 pounds, got on again and it said the same thing so I went with that. Sometimes little things like that effect digital scales.

Mine is a digital scale, and it said I had gained 40-some pounds over night once. Repeatedly. Eventually, after weighing myself, my husband and my son, it was reading normal and said I hadn't gained or lost anything from the day before. I changed the batteries and it went back to normal. Never happened again.

I would probably fall over dead if my scale said I'd gained 40 pounds overnight!

I wouldn't trust it. Not even the consistent number it landed on. I would definitely replace the battery.

I'm a daily weigher and the three consistent numbers paired with my previously charted weight is enough for me to chart the 260 and I'll replace the batteries tonight and weigh again in the morning. Maybe I'll get a nice surprise and find that I haven't actually been stalling these past two weeks...LOL...I wish!

Of course it's broken if it's not consistent. It may need a new battery. And it may need to be put out at the curb.

Was it on top of something? Even something small can make a difference like that. Sometimes my scale will end up on top of some tiny toy of my son's and it will show like a 15 lb loss. If there's nothing under it, I would try a new battery and then a new scale!

No, I checked--it was flat on the ground. I've also had something similar to this happen on another scale when I was standing either too high or too low on the scale rather than in the middle. No big deal...it's not the end of the world...consistency in my weight loss is all I'm looking for and the end number is consistent with the last few weeks. It probably just needs a new battery since I've never replaced it. I'll do it tonight and I'm sure it'll be fine. If not, I'll just get a new one.
