Default Zumba... anyone doing it?

I saw a Zumba ad somewhere a while back and thought it was something to look into, and then forgot all about it. Well, my mind randomly popped out a thought about it earlier today, Goggled it, and found out they have classes at my local YMCA 4 days a week!! I am not currently a member of my local YMCA, but may very well be joining in the near future because the non member fee would quickly cost more than a membership.

I was wondering if anyone here has done Zumba, and your thoughts on it. It looks AWESOME, and so much fun!

I am going to Zumba tomorrow evening! I have taken two classes so far. One at my gym and one in town at the middle school. They are SOO much fun. The instructor at the middle school is tougher than the one at my gym. I sweat SO much at the one at the middle school... then I was SORE for two days. I couldn't believe it!

I am so excited about starting this up!!
Is it the type of sore like "this hurts so good", or "I really want to call-in to work, and lay here all day it hurts so much" kinda thing?

I started Medifast today. When I can exercise I have the Zumba DVDs ready!I'm going to a Medifast center, and the counselor is a certified Zumba instructor. She's not teaching anywhere right now, but gave me some pointers. I know it will be more fun to dance it off!

I'm a Zumba addict. I love it and have lost weight and toned from doing solely this and walking. I do the DVD's however as my local teacher was not much fun.

You will sweat loads

When I first started doing it I really ached for a couple of days afterwards and my heart was pounding like crazy. Now I don't usually ache but I still sweat and it feels like a great workout. They say you can burn between 500-1000 calories in an hour. I don't know how accurate that is but personally I have seen great results!

Also - if you feel a bit of an idiot the first couple of times (like I did), stick with it because you will soon pick up the moves. So long as you are moving, you are burning

I LOVE dancing, and can't wait to do some with out having to be drunk in the club to do it! lol My friend I am trying to get to go with me wants to go to a gym out of our town so she doesn't have to run into people she went to school with.... WTF.... I'm am not going to drive 30-45 min to another town just because she doesn't want to 'look silly' in front of people she went to school with. If they are close enough to see her, they are prolly in the class too, and are doing the same things she is! I just don't get it!

It was a GOOD hurt! Just a wee bit of soreness to let me know I had done something. (not like the soreness I have been feeling ALL weekend from working out too hard last Thursday with TOO heavy weights. Oops! )

I have Zumba. Tried it once and threw it in the back of the closet. Made me realize how terribly uncoordinated I am.

Can I bug and ask if Zumba DVD's are worth me buying since I'm in a wheelchair right now (recovery from a broken leg)...I started doing Jillian's 30 day shread last week and I know it's working even though I'm only obviously doing upper body and cardio. Do you think I can dance with my arms and such, I know it sounds silly but I do blast music in my house and dance around in my wheelchair and get my heart rate up. Thanks!

To be honest, what you're doing seems perfect. Zumba has a lot of footwork and if dancing around the way you do now is working for you, I wouldnt buy Zumba yet.

I'm not sure but if you type "Zumba DVD" in to Youtube you can get a pretty good idea of what it involves

I have been taking Zumba classes since last Monday (I've been to a total of 5 classes) and I love it!! I used to be a dancer, but I gained quite a bit of weight due to PCOS/insulin resistance so I was hesitant to put myself into a room of people who I envisioned being experts. At the classes I go to, the instructor tells us that if you can't get the arms, get the legs; and if you can't get the legs, get the arms; and if you can't get any of it, just keep moving! There are people of all experience levels in the class and it's a blast. The classes are 1 hour long and I can't get enough. I'm so addicted, I've already bought zumba attire LOL

I would definitely recommend for anyone to try it out!

I would wait for Zumba--the majority of the moves require leg work and "bouncing" for cardio, so the arms aren't as emphasized.

I've been waiting to start Zumba classes for so long. I heard about it less than a year ago but couldn't go cuz i was pregnant. Now that I'm all recovered after having a baby the instructor went to summer vacation and won't be back next two weeks.
But, I'll be waiting patiently.
I've been watching videos on you tube and it seems to be so much fun, also many people find it addicting and I hope I'll become an addict too

And, as K3lly said: 'I LOVE dancing, and can't wait to do some with out having to be drunk in the club to do it! '
haha

Zumba is SO ADDICTING!!!! It's probably my favorite form of exercise. I took dance class for like, 8 years when I was younger and loved it, so dancing as a form of exercise is insanely fun for me. So much better than walking/running. But you don't have to have a background in dance to love it...they have classes about 3x a week at my college's rec center...at one point in time I was there every single time they had it. I never thought I'd love exercise lol...but I loved zumba! I know I sound like an ad for it but seriously...anyone interested should TRY IT. It's an amazing workout.
