When I decided to change my eating habits, I knew that I was going to have to add exercise to my daiy routine as well if I wanted to keep the pounds off. Since I'm still insecure about working out in a gym (no one wants to be the fat girl surrounded by skinny *****es in short shorts and sports bras), I bought myself a Wii and Wii Fit.
I liked it well enough, but the Wii Fit is a little boring after a while. It's the same thing over and over...and while I know any exercise is good exercise, I found myself getting disillusioned with the whole thing.
A friend suggested EA's Sports Active...I like this much better and I love that it's interactive..makes me feel more like I'm actually working out and less like I'm goofing off.
So here's my question...has anyone else used Wii to lose weight...did you find that it worked?
I started exercising with the Wii Fit, then EA Active Sports and More Sports. I don't think these turned me into an athlete but at least it got me off my butt so that when I did start regularly exercise (I prefer fitness classes to the gym) I could at least get to the end of a class!
As to weightloss I found that when I kicked it up a notch from the Wii Fit to the Active Sports I actually gained 4lbs (water weight) which took some persistence to get if off.
If you have the wii fit plus you can customize work outs, which is what helped keep things interesting for me. Also, try to stay away from the balance games, they are more for fun then for calorie burning.
I haven't tried the other ones for the wii yet, but I have heard bad things about the Jillian Michaels one not registering movements.
I highly recommend Walk it Out. Makes it much easier to get 3-4 miles of walking in to suppliment my JM shred or whatever Ive chosen to torture myself with that week. Anyways, very fun game and I don't have to get worried about cars running me over lol.
I also have EA Sports active and its a good workout. I'd like to pick up the more workouts add on but I read that EA sports active will release a new version this fall/winter that will be all wireless sensors so I'll just wait for that one.
I started with the wii as well and still use it. I used the wii fit then EA Sports - both versions. I still use the My Fitness coach though and it's my fave! I have been thinking about the new jillian one but haven't checked it out yet. My SIL uses the Shape one with the camera - she loves it!
I mainly use the step on the Wii fit because well, I just felt like I wasn't getting a good workout anymore. I used it regularly for about two months before I switched over to mainly using EA Active with Wii Fit on the side.
I'm going to look into Walk it Out and maybe the new 10 minute solutions that just came out to add a bit more variety.
Ok, yeah I like the wii too. I use primarily the wii fit plus game, and I like most of the cardio stuff on there and am good at some of it. I have the active, but need the exercise kit so I don't keep dropping the remote and so that it registers correctly.
I'll probably start a different one some time too. I'm mostly bingeing lately so I can't say for sure if it worked but doing cardio on whatever game seems to break a good sweat just like biking does for me.
The Wii has helped with my consistency and duration. I did Wii Fit Plus (and occasionally Wii Sports Resort) exclusively for about seven weeks. My reward for meeting my exercise goal in June (1600 minutes) was to buy Walk It Out and I'm finding that very motivating with a higher level of cardio than I generally got from Fit. I'll probably continue buying myself new games when I meet my exercise goals to keep it interesting. At some point, I hope to get back to using my nice collection of exercise DVDs, but for now I'm allowing myself to be enthralled with the newness and novelty of the Wii. I had my biggest one-week weight loss ever last week, so it's definitely working for me.
I like it more than the Wii and it has a spot to enter your daily activities and your measurements and then it makes a graph, so the longer you use it the more you see your progress. I have lost about twelve lbs by using the wii fit plus and walking on a treadmill at school.
I find myself finding activitries so I can go back and enter it in my log. It is kind of cheesy but it works. I don't do a regular workout I start with some yoga and breathing for about ten minutes then I go into aerobics for about a half hour and then I end with the more entertaining ones like the one where you flap youur arms and fly or the obstacle course, then I wind down with a couple of strength exercises and then the meditation. It just works for me.
When I first started I did more of the prepared workouts but now I just do what I like for an hour and find that works best. ~Vaunderbroad
When I am at school, I use it because I do not have a school. But when I go home for the weekend and I weigh myself on my parents scale, they are usually about the same.
I was just wondering how accurate you think their measurements are? And if you would recommend getting a real scale instead of relying on the board?
I have the Wii fit.... but it just got boring after a while, and not challenging enough. I bought Tae Bo videos, and even though they're totally kicking my butt right now, they're a lot more motivating and mentally stimulating to me- not nearly as boring. I'm loving it!
I do still use my Wii fit to chart success, enter daily activities, and calculate estimated calories burned throughou the day, and I like that feature.
