Default Need To That Gut and Legs/But!

Hi all!

I was wondering if anyone has suggestions on excercises that help to tone abs, legs and butt? Specifically, things that work well for women please.

I have lost about 52 pounds. I am currently 20 pounds away from goal! I need to start doing some serious toning!!

Thanks all!

Going for a run is good toner as well, I do the walking lunges on the cool down portion. Congrats on the 52lb loss

I don't think Mel mentionned lunges and squats those are extremely important for legs and butt, my favourites

Thanks a lot guys! This is great. I have been doing spinning classes for quite some time now. I am thinking about starting the weight training classes at my gym (golds gym). I spoke with the instructor yesterday and she said that she does tons of squats in her classes. I am so excited. I need to tone this guy and get my rear end and legs sexy for the summer time! Lol. t

Mel: you forgot BULGARIAN Split Squats!!

SummerSlimmy-- i think the point Mel was getting at was that you need to do real liftin, and lift heavy, large, compound body movements to improve your desired body composition. The "weight" classes at most gyms, are really more like cardio classes (like Body Pump), where you do an ungodly amount of repititions at a weight my hamster could lift. While you burn lots of cals working like that, you dont develop the muscles in a way to promote any real strength.

mkroyer - OK. Thanks! Maybe I can start with the class just to get me started but also do lifiting by myself that incorporates larger weights. Does anyone know of any good sites that has "how to" info? I have found some stuff but its hard for me (as a newbie) to determine of these sites provide credable info.

Didn't know that body pump was a cardio class.....We use various weight sizes, do various squats, lunges, dead lifts etc, in our class. It may not be a "real" weight class but it is fun!

Hi -

Stumptuous is a great site to get started. You can also read the sticky thread about functional exercise. If your gym offers it, you might consider a couple of sessions with a personal trainer. Just be sure to tell him/her what your goals are and don't let them push a canned program off on you.

Again, thanks guys!

WaterRat - Thanks for providing the link! The girl who I was talking to I know prety well. She is also my spining instructor. I have been in her spinning classes for about a year now. I made sure to go into detail about the type of results that I want to see. I dont think she was trying to push me in her class, b/c she doesnt profit in any way from it. Its a class that comes free with the membership fees. BUT who knows!! Lol. Ya' never know...
