Default I'm New To This!

Hey guys,

Stopping in to say hello. I actually joined this site in the very early hours of the morning while people were sleeping. I just couldn't sleep! This obsession with me losing weight keeps me up at night. I have been trying my whole life to get rid of the tires around my body. I've been through just about every diet and the only one that worked was Atkins. I found out early that I was sensitive to carbs. However, I couldn't maintain the diet because I am addicted to carbs! I lost like 80 lbs in 6 months and gained it all back plus some. I really have let myself go and I feel bad for it. This weight thing has consumed all areas of my life in a negative way. I feel like I am not myself anymore. My doctor told me lose weight or die. He pushes surgery on me all the time but I refuse to get it. I want to do this on my own because I know I can! I appreciate sites like this because it lets me know I am not alone. It gives me an outlet to share my endeavors in this most challenging journey.
What fuels me today is the recent loss of my sister's husband last Wed. He was 535lbs. He got so frustrated with losing weight that he gave up...and well...he is gone. It happened out of nowhere. I DO NOT want that to happen to me so hear I am. Sorry so long but had to get some things off my chest. Congratulations to all of you who are sticking to and achieving all of your weight loss goals!

dear Chylamae!
welcome!

reading your story reminded me of how i joined 3fc and just read and read the forum for months until i was ready to start losing weight and fight for my life. so i think you came to the right place and please feel welcome, here you are not alone and there are so many people who can relate to your story.

reading goal-stories http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/goal-199/ helped me in the beginning, although i thought everyone else can do it but me. turns out i was wrong. i count my calories and take my weight off slowly (a pound a week), but that is the only way for me to learn how to eat normally and not be hungry (and then overeat after a few days).
i'm writing this because i want to tell you: you don't need to lose fast, you just need to start eating healthier and a bit less a day at the time. big plans are just overwhelming.

so, welcome and good luck, you now have many partners in this fight!

Welcome! I'm sorry to hear about your BIL. Hang in there, you can do this! There is a lot of support here, especially in encouraging each person to find what works for them...for life. If Atkins worked for you, then maybe doing some sort of carb cycling would work for you. That way you don't have to give up carbs you love, but have enough of a limit on them that you can achieve your goals and maintain that way of eating for life. I know I couldn't do Atkins for the rest of my life, but I have figured out a way that I can get some of the benefits of the Atkins diet while still eating the way I want to.

MiniChick,

Thank you, his loss was unfortunate but not in vain. I know he is watching me shine and push ahead through this. I appreciate your advice on tweeking Atkins in a way that would fit. It sounds like an awesome idea! Thanks for the encouragement.
