Anything but food, new earrings, flowers for the house, a new plant for my patio, a movie, DVD, a book, perfume,I look on it the same as buying a gift for a friend.
Unfortunately food - aaargh - I always go hog-wild and self sabotage! But, I did recently (last week) hit my goal weight. This time I have treated myself by staying on-plan all the way! I have chosen to NOT self-sabotage. That is a huge treat for me because it is making me feel like I might not blow it this time. It is making me feel like "I am finally worth it."
Usually after I teat myself to the binge, I usually go for a clothing item - jeans. I am an apple shape so shirt shopping is always depressing, but finding cute jeans is rewarding.
Definitely anything but food, I did too much rewarding/punishing with food so I'm trying to break that cycle. I've been going with iTunes lately- ten songs for every 5 pounds. For more "milestone" goals, like the first 50 pounds, etc., I've got my eye on a new bedding set.
New workout clothes (check out www.athleta.com) a little pricey, but worth it for a reward.
I recently hit the halfway mark and celebrated with a new shorter haircut and highlights. Again, a little more than I would normally spend -but it's a *reward*.
For my next reward - I am going to buy 4 or 5 sessions with a personal trainer at the YMCA. It will be around $200 - but I think it's worth it all the way around. I'm pretty adept at using the cardio equipment, but would like someone to help me get used to the weights and nautalus equipment.
I won a weight-loss competition and used the $ to buy myself a backpack for hiking the Grand Canyon. When I got under 200, it co-insided with a spontaneous trip to Vegas with a girlfriend from high school. So that was my reward. My ultimate reward is going to be a 49er tattoo. I don't have that goal laid out exactly yet though. I think it will have to be a pant size, body fat %, or waist measurement rather than a weight though.
This is a great thread and it reminds me that I didn't treat myself when I met my goal! I did self sabotage though... now maybe if i treated myself with something non food related I would get back on track?
Seabiscuit- I do the same thing- I forget to reward myself once I hit the goal.
It is a very bad habit because I always find a million reasons to not give myself the reward I worked for- it's too expensive, I could put the money towards someone else... Bah! Bad habit and bad precedent!! I probably end up rewarding myself with food instead because it's "cheaper". I am going to stop doing that now.
In the beginning I used to go out to a favorite restaurant when I hit a goal. I was using it as an excuse to eat whatever I wanted. When I began this journey in August, I took careful note of all of the things I did wrong before.
Now I have my 1 day per week as a cheat day and for any achievements I get myself something.
I have some things I enjoy but you guys have some good ideas.
However, right now my toes are jacked up because I have not met my under 200 goal yet.
