In the spirit of the "given up" threads. What are your favorite substitutions be they replacements or just a lower calorie lower fat version.

I'll start

Egg Beaters for regular eggs
Kraft fat free swiss slices for regular cheese (it melts well)
Ground lean turkey for ground lean beef

I try to use spices instead of sauces.
Water instead of anything else. (Whenever I drink something else, I add an extra water before enjoying it.)
I use ketchup on baked potatoes instead of butter and sour cream.
Weighing instead of eyeballing.
Exercise instead of excuses.

A work in progress for sure. I hope I can make it to the end.

* Shirataki noodles instead of pasta

* Greek yogurt instead of sour cream or mayo.

* Low fat cottage cheese instead of yogurt (still not too happy about this!)

* Laughing cow cheese wedges instead of cream cheese

* 100 calorie mini bagels instead of the giant, 350 calorie bagels

* Compromising instead of eating whatever I want

I LOVE Shirataki "noodles" with a wedge of Laughing Cow melted over it - throw in a little chicken and a few mushrooms and I have chicken alfredo that is yummy and satisfying and hardly any calories at all.

Egg beaters are awesome too!

lucid, you're in luck! Heinz just announced they are reducing the salt in their recipe - the new formula will hit shelves this summer:

Oatmeal for cheerios or corn flakes
Greek yogurt for yogurt, sour cream or mayo (in dips)
Cottage cheese for other cheese in my salad
Broccoli and other veggies for bread
skinny cow instead of ben and jerry's
Applesauce or pureed beets for oil in baked goods. (Seriously good beet chocolate cake I make for DH's b-day.)

Evidently, most of by substitutions are dairy related!!
