Default When will this weight loss start to show in my face?

I lost 7 pounds this week. I started a new low carb diet. It seems to be working well. Not hungry. Not snacking. Exercising every day. Before that, I lost an additional 15 pounds over about 7 weeks.

My highest weight was 281 in Jan 09. I was up and down and just stopped weighing for several months. I was in the 260s when I started again.

Now I am down to 248. No one has noticed. I can't even tell the difference. The pants are a little looser, but I still look the same - if that makes sense. Maybe its all the loose clothes I wear. I would never wear something tight at this weight. But I really want to SEE it. I wish my face would started getting smaller. I still have that double chin at certain angles. And my face still looks fat.

I know if I took my measurements, I'd probably see it there. I don't want to sound vain or anything, but I really wish I can get to the point where someone notices.

You're not vain... we all want to SEE the results from our hard work. People may be noticing and just not saying anything yet. Or, they may notice and not want to offend you. I have had a couple people notice and say something to someone else who then said something to me, but I have yet to have anyone actually say anything to me. ...And for all I know, none of my coworkers have noticed at all.

Really though, I can't see it on myself when I look in the mirror. I still see the same person... now, I've seen a few older pictures next to new pictures and then I can see a big difference in my face. Whatever it is about the mirror though... I still see the chubby cheeks and double chin I have to work off. Have you ever done the whole pulling on your facial skin thing to see how you will look when you lose more? LOL... yea, that's me... I'm crazy.

For now, try taking measurements. I'm sure you'll see loss there and that might help you with a more visual aid.

do you have pictures you can compare to? if not take some right now in some less baggy clothing. take measurements.

we all want to see the changes, that's normal. I remember from a different thread that a lot of people didn't get any comments until after 50 lbs were gone. Maybe there is something to that. keep going, you'll see it soon!

I took pictures last year when I weighed my highest. I was in a sports bra and biking shorts. I had the pics stored on my digital camera. I was planning on taking them regularly so I can see the difference.

Then my camera was STOLEN right out of my car. I hope the guy that took it like pictures of a 281 pound half naked woman.

I have since replaced the camera. But I will not be taking pics in a sports bra and spandex anytime soon.

I remember when I was losing a ton of weight and not knowing it, I went from 160 to 130 in two months and no one around me noticed! One day I just looked in the mirror and then at my ex and said "I look skinny today" and he said "Yeah you do". When you go every day and you see yourself, and the people around you see you everyday...it's harder to tell because it won't be so dramatic as say, seeing you and then seeing you months later 20 pounds lighter...

does that make sense?

It really depends on how you carry your weight. I'm top heavy and unfortunately, that includes my face. I mean, I can see a difference after 40+ lbs, but I still have a very fat face and look awful in photos. I'm trying to convince myself it's a good thing because I won't become one of those people who have a gaunt looking face when I get to my goal weight. lol!

It took me over 30 lbs (and that's starting at about 10% lower than your start) before anyone outside of my immediate family said anything. I think a big factor in that was because I was still wearing most of the same clothes too. I do think that the higher you start, the longer it takes to become really noticeable - it's that paper towel roll thing, where if you take a few sheets off a full roll, it doesn't really change the appearance but once the roll is halfway gone, if you take those same few sheets off, it appears much smaller.

Hang in there, chances are you (and other people!) should start to see a change pretty soon!!

Interesting way of looking at it...

It took me at least 30 to 40 pounds before anyone noticed that I'd lost weight. Wearing the same (but now looser) clothing definitely makes the difference harder to notice.

But if you keep at it, you will get there, and you will get LOTS of compliments. I've been working at this for two years now, and I still get plenty!

I have pick my aunt up at the airport next Friday. I haven't seen her in 6 months. Maybe she'll notice.

Hopefully I'll lose a few more sheets off the roll before then.

I have lost 55 lbs and I still see myself the same. i think because its an overall weight loss we lose all over at the same rate. Someone talked about a paper towel roll. Think when you have a new roll when you tear off a sheet, it doesnt even go all the way around the roll and you cant really tell that you took one off. Then when you get to the middle, when you take a sheet off it goes all the way around and you start seeing the roll getting somewhat smaller. Then at the end of the roll, that one sheet you tear off wraps around it a couple of times. Think of that when you think of weightloss. At first not really big changes. Then at the middle you can somewhat tell and at the end there is a huge difference.

Sometimes I think that people don't say things out of fear of causing offense.

I too was VERY anxious to get rid of my extra chin. I went onto myvirtualmodel website and played around with the model at various weights to see at what weight it predicted the chin would be gone. It was within a few pounds of being correct.

Keep doing what you are doing. It is working. I like the suggestions of taking measurements, looking at photos, saving old baggy clothes to try on.

I just came back from Wal Mart. I had to hold up my size 18 jeans because they were falling off. Seriously, I had to hold one hand on my pants so I wouldn't be flashing butt crack everywhere. And I just bought these in April.

So I come home and my size 16 jeans are still snug. WTF! I hate belts, but I guess I'll have to find one that doesn't suck. When I finally need pants smaller than a 16, I'm screwed. I don't have money for new clothes and I think the last time I fit into a size 14 was high school.

I agree.. I think sometimes people don't say anything right away because they don't want to say the wrong thing. My husband has told me before that he is scared to say anything b/c it might be wrong.

But if your jeans are falling off, then you are getting smaller! I agree, start taking measurements.

I shed weight like a tree - from the face down! Which in a weird way was always a BAD thing -- like, after 15 pounds people would say "oh your face is thinner" which loosely translated into TraceySpeak is "you're skinny now, you can eat like a lineback now!!!" hahahah and I'd STOP!

I say enjoy the loose pants, keep taking pictures, and hang in there. Sometimes people notice but don't want to say anything!

No one noticed my WL until atleast 40lbs...and my pants weren't getting that much looser either....it does help in the motivation department when ppl notice...but also don't forget, some ppl feel it's rude to comment on someone's weight, so they may have noticed, but didn't want to be rude...

33lbs is great!! Keep up the good work!! And good luck with the low carb thing!!
