Default Guess what? There's even vanity sizing in...

Bath towels!!

A while back someone posted that they were now able to wrap a bath towel around their body as a cover up. A fair number of people that I would judge to be my size chimed in that they now could too. This was one I hadn't thought of, so I tried it and didn't even come close. Now I am pretty busty (34GG) and this wasn't on my list of goals so I didn't let it bother me, but the idea lingered.

This past week I've been on a road trip to visit family. In hotel on the way up to Michigan, when got out of the shower, decided to try the towel - it wrapped around! So when I got to my sister's place I tried with her towels and did it again!

However when I got home, still couldn't do it with my own towels. And it seemed my towels are smaller than the ones I've been using on the trip. My bath towels are 24 years old and many are much older (I inherited my grandmother's linen closet when she passed and had many never-used sheets and towels). So I dug out some new towels I had bought for when I repaint the bathroom and discovered they are 3.5 inches wider and 8 inches longer than the ones I'm using now.

Guess I better get the bathroom repainted so I can start using those new orange towels.

So it's not only portion sizes that have increased, apparently it's towels too.

I believe it. Clothing sizes have definitely changed. The 18's and 20's I wear today are not the size 18's I had at 18 years old. I am really curious when I get to my goal weight what size pants I will be. The last time I weighed 140-150 I was wearing a size 12 and a size 11 jr.

Interesting but not surprising! We like everything bigger except when it's on our hips

An update - I found some 12 year old towels and found they are halfway between the length of the oldest towels and the newest. So doesn't appear to be a brand issue, the towels really are getting bigger.

Now I'm laughing at myself that I'm measuring towel lengths. I really do have a life!

I have all the sizes. I bought them all at the same time. Wash cloth, hand towel, bath mat/floor towel, bath towel, bath sheet. Here's the definitions:

http://www.wisegeek.com/what-are-the...ath-towels.htm

I didn't think it was anything new, just that now you can get the full range at discount stores more easily.

I remember my mom used to flip out trying to find floor towel/bath mat because none of us like those loopy bath rugs. Floor towel dries faster. Same with bath sheets -- you can find them more easily now too.

LOL! I remember that thread! My bathroom towels are definitely bigger than our sons' bathroom towels. Though my own towels wrapped around me, our sons' did not. (Now though, the smaller towels fit too, but only just.)

Yes, not all towels are created equal.
