Default Protein powder

Hi guys--

I was wondering how many of you have a protein drink for extra protein or a pre-/post-workout drink, and which brands you like?

I am currently using EAS whey protein, but I don't use it consistently because, quite frankly, it's not very tasty. I'd rather have a salad with chicken and beans and no dressing.

Any recommendations?

I am an oddball (really!) and generally I don't feel I need more protein but I also don't like to eat in certain instances (yes again an odd ball). In the morning, I often exercise but I usually don't like eating in the morning so sometimes I'll drink a protein type shake. My favorite is hemp protein powder or mixes and my favorite brand is Vega. Umm and as for taste though, hemp is awesome in terms of nutrients but the taste is acquired I love it though especially their chocolate version.

I will sometimes have a shake as a meal replacement at work or something. I use just store brand protein. Vanila flavor. Doesn't have much taste so I put in some strawberry-kiwi benifiber for flavor. Gets the job done.

Thanks, guys.

Nelie--where do you get hemp powder? Is it expensive?

I'd actually just like something to add into my greek yogurt before a workout to give me an extra oomph of protein since I eat small portions of it throughout the day. I thought chocolate powder, greek yogurt and half a banana sounded good. Not so much. Oh, and I put my fiber powder (for IBS) in it, but that doesn't have any flavor or texture to it, really, so I know that that isn't the cause of the yuckiness.

My hubby and I get Syntha-6. We like the Caramel Latte flavor (really yummy if you make it and throw it in the freezer to make it slushy!) I also get Balance Protein Bars (choclate raspberry fudge) or Power Crunch Bars (peanut Butter Creme). I tend to go more for the bars because they have less calories then a shake but they have fewer grams of protein. We order ours from Nutrition Express it can get a little pricey though if your on a tight budget.

Eumie - Hemp protein is generally found at natural foods type stores. Whole Foods for example.

I take K20 Protein Water Mix for 5 g of protein and only 30 calories...

A box with 7 packets only costs less than $5 at Wal-Mart. I can mix it in my water or place it in some kind of desert for the flavor.

I have tried a lot of different powders but I have to say I have finally found one that tastes good and is very "good" for you. No artificial sugars and 25 grams of protein! I use Jay Robb protein powders! I love the strawberry. I mix one scoop pp, 1 cup almond milk (vanilla unsweetened) 1/2 cup strawberries or other berry, and ground flax seed. I love it. Tastes like a frappe` for breakfast! I hear the vanilla is very good and the chocolate is awesome! This is my first jug of his pp as i used to use designer whey. It was ok but not that great in taste.

Nutrition info:
Cals: 110
Fat: 0
Carb: 1
Fiber: 0
Pro: 25g.
Sugar: 0

I believe they use Stevia for the sugar in the pp. I know its expensive but it lasts a long time and it's the best tasting one I have found!

I do drink protein shake after weight lifting. The first one I had was strawberry flavoured and I got sick of it pretty quickly. (Can't recall the brand).
Then I saw a huge container (2 kg - that's what ?, 4 lbs and a bit) at Costco and on top of that, it was on sale. I think it cost Can. $39 or $49 - it was a while ago). It is from Kaizen (canadian company) - Kaizen Whey Isolate. It comes in 2 flavours, Vanilla Ice and Chocolate. I have had only the vanilla and at first I liked it but I am getting tired of it again (I think I just finished my second container and there is one more in the basement). :-)
I like it best when I put into the blender and some fruit. It is good for sweetening oatmeal. I would prefer less sweetness. Otherwise, it is 150 calories / 35 grams protein per scoop which I consider good calorie/protein ratio.
