Default Am I pregnant?!?!?!

My husband and I are TTC and I have been trying to get healthy prior to the pregnancy. I have seen sooo many negatives and I saw my first positive this morning! My husband and I are ecstatic but because this is such a long time coming & I have severe PCOS and was told I wouldn't get pregnant we are trying to think of any reason we may have gotten a false positive. Last night I did a Ketostik and I was all the way to the purplest possible! So now we are wondering if Ketosis could cause a false positive? I know it might sound crazy, I just really didn't think I would ever get pregnant! So now I am trying not to get my hopes up just in case something like that could happen.
AHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello. OK. The pregnancy test looks for a hormone called beta-HcG that is only produced by two things: an early implanted embryo or a placenta. True, there can be false positives because no tests are perfect. What I would do is wait a week or two and test again. I say test again and not run off to the doctor because we use the same test that you do at home but charge more for coming into the ER/office. If you get another positive in a week or two, than I would contact your OB/GYN. It is harder for women with PCOS to have children, but it is not impossible.

I have taken a few tests this morning and all have been clearly positive so I am pretty sure I am pregnant. I am going to call my Dr tomorrow. They are going to want to do a blood test just to see what my BETA levels are anyway. Basically, I was just wondering if Ketosis could cause a false positive.
Thanks

I did three tests of three different brands when I thought I was pregnant and they were all positive! My daughter is 12 now! I had trouble TTC and wonder if I also have PCOS cause I would only have two or three periods a year. You could wait a week like squishysquirrel suggested or just test again with a different test today and if it's positive then you are more than likely pregnant! Then make your appointment with your doc! The over the counter tests are very accurate and only detect the HCG hormone which you only have in a pregnancy or if taking the medicine HCG. It would have been hard for me to wait a week during that time to test again! Women with PCOS can get pregnant.....the timing just has to be right for ovulation and hopefully you timed it just right

Good luck to you! I have PCOS and in the ten years we ttc I never got a false positive from ketosis.

We do have two beautiful little girls now, so pregnancy with PCOS is possible. If you ask your doctor for a beta hcg test you will know for sure, since that measures the hormone in your blood.

Congratulations!!!!!

fyi ... Courtney Thorne-Smith (Cheryl on 'According to Jim') is an official spokesperson for Atkins, has been on Atkins for a number of years & when she was pregnant, she continued following the plan (I doubt it was Induction, probably Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL) would be healthy) - gained a healthy 25lbs with her baby & voila! is at a healthy weight now. I would suggest that you read-up on OWL, foods you eat etc. and take that info with you to your doctor for approval (IMO I don't see why not, all food on Atkins is all natural)

I bet that you're on right now!! Here's sending out a BIG to you!
