So as I was making lunch today, I came across a very interesting tidbit...
I seem to be eating the most calories at lunch. Two slices of the bread I eat is 160 calories. And that's the Dempster's Smart Bread, white with whole grain. (I can't eat 100% whole wheat bread and the Sobeys I shop at doesn't have 60%.) One cheese slice, I don't know how many calories. (I take the slices out of the package and toss the package away.) One slice of bologna, 70 calories. One serving of mini Breton cheese crackers, 20 crackers is 100 calories. Today's sandwich has two slices of bologna and I have a can of ginger ale to drink. (Yesterday was apple juice.)
Is it normal to eat more calories at lunch than during any other meal?
I discovered the same thing about myself, in generally I eat the most calories during lunch, and it is also the time that I find myself the hungriest. I tend to eat less at dinner. So, yeah, I think it's normal!
I like to eat around 4-6 in the afternoon--mass quantities. So I have learned to save most of my eating for that time. First time in my life I have ever made note of that.
Have you tried the 35 calorie per slice Healthy Life bread? It's whole grain wheat and high fiber. I was surprised the first time I looked at the calories on the old breads I used to eat.
I'm still in transition. I'm slowly finding myself more hungry at lunch, hence more calories, but sometimes I'll make myself a bigger dinner just out of habit.
My highest caloric intake happens at dinner because it's the meal I eat with my family. When I make family favorites, like pizza casserole or chicken casserole, it's hard to know how many calories I'm consuming. So I just go for small portions and hope for the best.
The rest of the day is pretty easy for me, but I pretty much stick to the same food routine.
I've begun to notice that I eat the most at dinner. I'd never really thought about it until a couple months ago and it's really a helpful discovery. It's difficult because that's the meal I eat with the fiance so it means either eating a very small portion of what he likes, or eating something completely different. I usually just go for something different because it is more healthy and FILLING.
Lunchtime for me used to be a large meal. I work as a lunch lady for a Elementary school and they serve them great lunches and since Im a lunch lady I get a free lunch. Im guessing but the lunches that I would eat at work were about 500-800 calories and some can be higher. So once I gained 15 lbs working there I decided that I can no longer eat the school lunch and that I go home to eat lunch where I can eat healthier. Its kinda hard to not eat the chicken nuggets, quesidilla, tacos, burritos, pizza, and ooh cheeseburgers but I am tired of carrying this weight so i eat a Lean cuisine or smart ones for lunch. Eating a light lunch allows me to eat a bigger dinner. Plus I workout before dinner which lessens my appetite for about 2 hours, I tend not to be that hungry for dinner but my total calories for the day end up being about 1400-1800.
