How often do you eat?

  • Im new to counting calories, I used to do WW and had a lot of success with that but after a certain point I couldn't stick to it.

    My question is how often do you eat? Do you try to eat every couple of hours? do you eat small meals? Or do you just eat whenever you are hungry?

    Ive been waiting to eat until Im hungry which averages me about 1800 calories or more on a good day. Im not as strict since Im trying to make slight changes and not do everything at once just yet. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

    Also I do exercise 4-6 days a week and thats why its taking me a while to get my eating under control since I tend to be hungry after working out.
  • In theory, I eat when I'm hungry. But real life being what it is, you have to compromise somewhat.

    I think some people do better with more frequent, smaller meals, and many do better with more traditional meals and no or little snacking. You'll figure out what keeps you satisfied and feeling healthy.

    Snacks are usually 100 calories or less. Everything is counted in for my calorie allowance for the day.
  • I do regular meals and very seldom snack. I may snack if I know dinner will be especially late. Then a glass of skim milk holds me.
  • I do breakfast, lunch, dinner and two snacks. I normally don't have calories after supper unless my workout pounds me or that glass of wine that calls my name on Saturday night.
  • Every 2-3 hours, averaging @1500 cals/day
  • Six mini meals of 200 calories each, on average about 2.5 hours apart.
  • I eat when I'm hungry pretty much. I try to do about 3 meals between 220-350 a day and eat nutrigrain bars/fiber one bars/ or things like that to tide me over in between. I also only drink water, so I don't have to worry about drinking my calories. I was a complete soda addict, but now I don't even drink diet soda. It just doesn't taste good to me...

  • I eat 6-7 "mini" meals a day.
  • It depends on my schedule... some days I eat 3 big meals, some days small snacks in between, some days it's 6ish mini meals. Some days I'm eating a bite here or there because I've got a long experiment all day long that leaves me no more than 2 minutes at a time to eat. I do try not to go more than 5 hours without eating anything, or else I might start to feel yucky.

    I guess on an average day, I eat 3 main meals, with 3 smaller snacks (B, S, L, S, D, S).
