Default Breakfast

So I bought some waffles. They are whole grain and low fat. Only 140 calories for two waffles. I got some I can't believe it's not butter and some light syrup that's only 35 calories per 1/4 cup. Is this a good breakfast. I feel like waffles and syrup are so sweet and unhealthy. Even though I bought the healthy ones, or so I think. I always doubt myself. lol.

It sounds pretty good to me. The only thing I would add would be some protein (if I don't have any with a meal I get hungry again pretty soon). So maybe some egg beaters, or yogurt? You could get a little bit of that and still have a pretty lg breakfast at under 300 calories.

I'd add some fruit and some kind of protein as well. You know I feel like I eat more volume when I eat healthy LOL

Yep, gotta have some protein. How about eating one waffle and three egg whites?

Yep.. protein... *grin*

Trader Joes chicken sausages are great for 140 calories. Sams has some newish chicken patties fro 140 calories that work for me. Roses Canadian Bacon is only 60 calories for 4 slices and if I recall it has 10 gr of protein.

Best Wishes!

Default Egg whites

So when you guys sa egg whites do you just take the yolk out of the egg. Is it okay to eat the yolk. I know the white is better for you, but I figured a lot of calorie counters ate like boiled eggs.

I always eat the whole egg since I don't like to buy just egg whites and I don't like to throw away the yolk. Also, yolk is packed with great nutrients and 1 boiled egg is less than 80 calories.

Learn to trust your instincts. If it's too good to be true then it is. Be careful of labels, there's always a catch.

Is this a good breakfast? Depends on what you think a good breakfast is. Is it low calorie? Definitely. But to me it's not at all a good breakfast.

Waffles - what do you mean "whole grain?" That label means very little and one has to be very careful with misleading labels. I only buy things that are labeled 100% whole grain, because otherwise you're only buying something that contains very little whole grain. It should actually be labeled "a little whole grain, but mostly white enriched flour." Also make sure there's no high fructose corn syrup, that stuff is terribly bad for you.

Light syrup - I've heard of it, never bought it. I avoid anything labeled "light" because if you look at the ingredients list you'll see a whole lot of chemicals and sweeteners added to make up for the lack of taste. I prefer to use the real thing and less of it rather than those "light" or "fat-free" stuff.

"I can't believe it's not butter" - margarine is one of the scariest substances I know of. Here's a list of ingredients:
Vegetable Oil Blend (liquid soybean oil, liquid canola oil, hydrogenated soybean oil, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, liquid canola oil)
Water
Sweet cream
Salt
Soy lecithin
Vegetable mono- and diglycerides
Potassium sorbate and calcium disodium EDTA (used to protect quality)
Citric acid
Natural and artificial flavors
Vitamin A (palmitate)
Beta carotene (for color)

Yes, you'll be saving yourself some calories but you'll be getting all kinds of other chemicals along with it. Sorry if I seem a bit alarmist but I lived a long life of eating processed diet foods that actually kept me from losing weight. Diet sodas, fat free cheese, skim milk, margerine, diet bars full of HFC, low calorie foods full of artificial sweeteners... it's a hard lesson learned but the more you can stay away from these foods the healthier you will be.
