Default How many hours per week are you working out?

Hello everyone? Its been a while since I posted on this site I kinda feel off the wagon but I am getting back into a workout schedule. Tomorrow I will be joining the y and they have so many classes along with a regular gym and lots of other things to help reach fitness goals.

Just curious, about what you guys are doing in your workout plans and how much time is spent each week working out?

Here is what my weekly exercise schedule usually looks like (I go to the Y too ):

S: Spinning class (1 hr)
M: Strength training (45 min), Cardio (20 min)
T: Cardio (1 hr) + floor exercises (20 min)
W: Strength training (45 min), Cardio (20 min)
TH: Cardio (1 hr) + floor exercises (20 min)
F: Strength training (45 min), Cardio (20 min)
S: Day off

Also, I walk briskly for 45 min at least 3x/week during my lunch break.

Definitely try new classes and see what you like! Remember, if you ENJOY your workout, you will be more likely to do it. I would also recommend meeting with one of their trainers to talk about your own fitness/weight loss goals and see what they have to say.

Good luck!

I don't like going to the gym, unless it's for a fitness class, which don't run in the summer (it's a college gym)... so for now I'm working out exclusively at home.

For the past few weeks I had been working out about 4 hours a week (half hour some days, hour other days, one or two days off). I was doing all kinds of stuff - DVDs that combine cardio and strength training (the FIRM mostly), purely cardio DVDs (step aerobics, dance, etc), running, or weight lifting (I have dumbbells ranging from 2 to 25lb).

This week I bumped it up to 6 hours a week: 1 hour a day, 6 days a week, of almost all cardio. I'm running 3 days a week and the other 3 I'm doing a DVD (actually, I get a bunch of stuff free on my cable provider's "Exercise TV on demand" channel - I'm going to go with Jillian Michaels' "Banish Fat Boost Metabolism" for the next 2 weeks, it's 40-45 minutes, then I add on some strength training).

Check out the July Exercise Challenge thread; there you can get an idea of what ppl are doing on a daily basis, get some ideas for yourself, and make a plan. I update mine pretty regularly. This is July so far:

Goals: Follow Hal Higdon's intermediate level half marathon training plan, and go to spin class on off days. Go for a 7mi run by the end of the month. Start a strength training program.
July 1: Rest
July 2: 10min walk (warm up/cool down), 30min 3mi run, 30min elliptical; gym weight 152
July 3: 45mins elliptical; gym weight 150.5
July 4: Rest
July 5: 4.5mi run
July 6: 60mins spin; gym weight 153
July 7: 3mi run/walk including 1 9min mi; gym weight 151.5
July 8: 60mins spin freakin standing the whole time; weightlifting for the first time in ages!
July 9: 40mins trail run
July 10: 15mi bike and 20min swim
July 11: 6mi run as per training sched.
July 12: 1hr hike; 20min swim
July 13: 50mins spin; 30mins lifting; gym weight 149
July 14: 3.5mi run as per training sched, in intervals of [email protected]/[email protected] + a 9:30 mi (for a total of 4.25mi including warm-up/cool down); gym weight 147

I work out about 1.5hrs/day plus the 6 miles a day i walk to and from work. its not too bad, and every so often i wont hit the gym if im not feeling it but when i go i run for 45mins then do weights and abs for the other 45. so a week i guess thats...10.5 gym hours plus 10 hours of walking. on a good week...

I am not a fan of the gym either but I love group workout classes, I am going to take full advantage of all the programs thats the Y offers and since I am also a college student so I get the best of both worlds since we also have a gym at school.

Even though I hate the gym I am going to have to use it more for toning because with the weight loss I havent toned as much as I should and I can tell

I aim for 45-60 minutes a day at the gym. More on weekends, but that's because I go outside and hike/swim. Sometimes during the week I go for short walks with co-workers at lunch, but not always.

Approx 7. but it varies every week depending on what classes I am taking and what the weather is like (I walk my dog briskly for an hour every evening so if there is bad weather I don't usually go out.)

anywhere between 30minutes and an hour and a half, depending on the work out. (when i lift it takes a lot longer because i break between each set)

I crossfit, so my workouts might be 40 minutes (plus warmup) one day or 9 minutes (plus warmup) the next day. I crossfit 4 times per week, I also don't drive my truck (weather permitting), I ride my bike.

Plus, I work 12 hour shifts as a nurse, which means about 5 miles per day of walking!

So overall, I consider myself to be moderately active!

I think it averages out to about 14 hours a week here, but it's because I'm training for a specific event(s) So I do my training (swim/bike/run) and try and flesh that out with some walking for extra calorie burn. I work out 6 days a week and generally take 1 day off and usually do 1-3 hours.

Between 4 and 10 hours a week. I go to the gym 4 hours a week, and do a martial art for 2 hours 3 times a week

Keep in mind that it's not so much about hours spent - it's about how hard you work. It'd be better to run your fastest for 20 min. then to walk for an hour.
