Everyone, Please Post 10 Things You Love About You!!!
Yo! I posted this on another thread to Sunn, whose post gave me the idea to see if everyone on this board would please be so kind as to list their 10 items right here. Didn't put OT in the subject line because I believe self-esteem is a component of any weight management program and self-esteem is so often missing when we are not happy in our bodies:
Sunn: I'm going to steal your idea (with credit, of course!!) and post a thread for everyone to list 10 things they love about themselves! It seems to me that without healthy self-esteem, nothing else is possible. How can we love others if we can't love ourselves. Anyhow it'd be fun to have such a thread and I'm having a heavy internet day, so I just think I'll do it.
So, okay, I'm answering my own post now. Ten things I love about myself are (hmmm):
I'm kind to children and animals.
I'm smart.
I'm a good reporter (still).
I'm open-minded.
I never give up on anything I decide to do.
I'm able to find some fun no matter how bad things are.
I lost 100 pounds and kept most of it off for several years and will lose the 30 that I now need to lose ... it doesn't matter to me how long it takes, even if it takes the rest of my life, I know I will never give in to obesity.
I'm creative.
I like my body, I really do. It's not perfect, but for the most part it's pretty functional (good muscle tone and all that).
I bounce back from things, I survive ... no adversity, no humiliation, no reversal of fate has ever finished me off so far ... I'll play the game until it's over and enjoy every minute (even exercise)!
Ok Crone this is a good idea....but hard to think of 10 good things about me because I am normally very negative about myself.....so here goes...if I dont make it to 10 right now......LOL....I will be back to edit and add the missing ones!!!
1. I am very adaptable
2. I am a good mother
3. I am a good companion
4. I am pretty open-minded
( Ha Ha see I am stumped now.......will be back later.....LOL ) ( ok back for some more...ha ha )
5. I am a great listener
6. Would do just about anything for anybody in a time of need....anytime really.
7. I am called June Cleaver now because I am more resourceful at making things on my own ( made Jesse into a bowl of spaghetti for Halloween....ha ha )
8. Love being with my family more than anything....often told I need time away from them!!!
9. I love playing ball in our NEW backyard with the boys
10. I am learning to LOVE ME!!!

What a fun thing to do on my birthday! Happy 42 to me!
1) I'm bright and intuitive and genuinely love people.
2) I'm resourceful as all get-out.
3) I can walk 26.2 miles in 6 hours, 46 minutes. (And I don't mind bragging about it!)
4) I work very hard.
5) I don't give up on myself, and I don't give up on others I love. But I am learning to cut my losses.
6) My cute lil Minnesota accent is so adorable, jaaaa youbetcha.
7) I can fold a papal mitre out of a sheet of newsprint. I can also rearrange the folds to create a Flying Nun cap and then pretend I'm Sister Bertrille.
8) When I was held by Bulgarian border guards, I got them to let me go by playing "Who Stole the Cookies from the Cookie Jar?" for nearly 30 hours. I can charm and/or annoy the bejeebers out of just about ANYBODY.
9) "The Baklava Queen of North Carolina." Need I say more?
Well, when Mom comes back with six more things, it'll be two, plus me. Thanks guys! I'd love to rope in ALL the 3FC'rs in this thread, I just found it very liberating. So I'll refrain from going on and on, which may be off-putting to some!!! We'll pretend I'm focused, ok?!

2. I'm not judgemental.

Cool thread, Crone...Thanks! I'll bet most women responding to this could rattle off 10 things they hate about themselves much faster, but I'm going to give it a shot...

Happy Birthday, Venus Envy!
Thanks, everybody, for the birthday wishes! I had a great day, the perfect capper to a wonderful year.
I've come back to this thread a few times in the past 24 hours and have been a little weepy about what I've read. I know I could soooooooooooooo easily list 10 things that are amazing about several of the folks who've posted ... if I were asked to make lists for these awesome beings, it would be impossible to pare the lists DOWN to 10! I've printed up the whole thread and taped it on the inside of my desk hutch. Now every time I need a sheet of paper or a manila folder or a paper clip, it's a celebration of truly marvelous women.
Many of us came to this site because of the things we hate about ourselves (Katrina, you're so right about how easy THAT list would be for us to compile!) and what we want to change about our lives. But thank you, Crone, for offering up the reminder that the very reason we want to dump the detritus in our lives is precisely because keeping it, guarding it, and tending it make it harder to hold onto the things we DON'T want to lose.
1 ~ I have naturally curly, thick red hair that occasionally has caused strangers compliment me on it (hehehe, including Rikki Rocket of Poison when I met him in '87!!!)
2 ~ I have the "Pendleton Pug" - a cute button nose passed down for generations to the women in my family.
3 ~ I make friends easily, cherish and love them deeply - and they KNOW it.
4 ~ I am focused, responsible and determined enough to reach any goal I set my heart on.
5 ~ I am not dependant on any man (finally!) for my financial or emotional security.
6 ~ I love how my body supports me - regardless of how crappy I've treated it in the past. I heal quickly when cut, I'm healthy inside and have strong bones.
7 ~ I love my command of the English language and the fact that my Mom comes to me to help her write her newspaper articles.
8 ~ My "Far Side" sense of humor that I got from my Dad
9 ~ My way with money - I can balance my checkbook to the penny every month and know where every cent went (hey, I AM a Capricorn after all!)
and 10 ~ My capacity for forgiveness, growth and learning from life's lessons.
Self Gratification Time!!! I need to do this often.
Ten Things I love about me, Amy:
1) I am hilarious
2) I look pretty when I cry (I've been told-good or bad?)
3) I love unconditionally
4) My mother is my best friend
5) I've had the same girlfriends for 16 years
6) I will do anything for anyone
7) I've been a member of Greenpeace since I was 11
8) I am strong and opinionated
9) I am smart, especially in literature, politics and music
10) I think I have beautiful eyes
That was fun. I bet it would change if I re-wrote it in a month.....
