It's another lovely day in the neighborhood. I went to a different WW meeting in another town today since ours only does meet on Monday and weighed in and showed a loss of another 1.1 for which I am very thankful for. My aim is to lose a pound a week and I have averaged that so far.
JEAN we planted different kinds of flowers.... shaded different colors of daises, purple petunias, gazanias of different colors, painted lipstick impatiens, some gray mosey stuff. Looks good. I wish you a good success at your weigh in tonight.
COOKIE It is always nice to see flowers and pretty shrubs when looking out the window. What type of a program are you planning on following on your trip to thin?
Good Morning!
We had some rain during the night and now the sun is peeking out. I went for a 20 min. walk at 6 AM and the birds were chirping away . . . I just love this time of year with the bright green grass and all the flowers. I've had my shower and need to get going on the rest of my day. It is my MIL's 82nd birthday today so I am taking her out for lunch.
Jackie -- You are so lucky to have flowers all year around. I've never heard of some that you mentioned. I will buy fresh cut flowers once in a while during the winter, just to brighten up the table, but it's not the same. My hair is turning gray and I did try to color it several years ago -- it turned out too dark and when I finally liked the color, it was time to do it again. It was a pain in my patoot! Now they say you shouldn't perm and color both so I perm because my hair is so limp otherwise.
Maggie -- CONGRATULATIONS on another loss! I'll bet your flowers add a lot to your little corner of the world! My WI success is going back again! You would think I would learn my lesson by now! GRRRRR!
I have a few errands to run before I leave town so better get going. Have a wonderful Wednesday!
What can I say but it is another georgeous day. It is gonna get hot though for it is just 8 am and we have the windows all opened. This is a 24 point day and I think I want some grilled salmon for a couple of points and some watermellon. Cowboy got me a good surprise yesterday ~ a small upright 5 cubic foot freezer! Fits nicely in this travel trailer and it will be so convenient. We had frozens in the top of the fridge in the shop but that was in the shop and down the way and I never go there. Cowboy was good to bring things up but it was like a big deep chest type freezer if you get my drift.... things got lost. I didn't know what we had over there. He can keep his icecream down there now and all the rest of the food here.
JEAN good for you getting in that walk. Do you have a regular walking program that you plan on keep doing? Now that my knee is better I am fixin' to start one in the early morning hours. What fun to take an 82 year old out to lunch. I am sure you will have a great time. Where will you be going and are others going with you?
Have a good day my friends. Catch up with you later.
I'm a going concern today...went swimming early...thank you Mr. Bulldozer operator!!! The are developing the land next to our community and they start those big machines up at 7:00 sharp! Actually, I'm glad I went early because it is a blister of a day here today!! POW...winter...no Spring...and now Summer is here!
MAGGIE: You are doing so FANTASTIC with your program. Losing a pound a week is a very reasonable goal...and YOU ARE DOING IT!! My program is the only one I can ever lose weight on...low cal...low carb. My daughter has found a great site on the Internet just for people with hypothyroidism. It is good because it not only explains WHY we gain weight (or have so much trouble losing it) but it also gives you solutions. So I stick to about 1000 calories a day...70-80 grams of carbs...30 grams of fat and about 100 grams of protein. I basically eat the same thing every day...about the only thing that ever changes is the meat and veggie at dinner. I like having the same menu. Since I'm eating to lose...not to really enjoy...it makes it very stress free. I play around with low-carb sauces to put on my meat to mix the tastes up.
JEAN: Your walk sounded great! Don't you just love being out in the early morning? You're right about either perming OR coloring. If you really want to do both you have to stagger the processes... way to involved for me!! When I first started coloring my hair, I did it myself...and had the same results you had...too dark. Then I started having it professionally done...the color was great but I figured that I could use that $50 somewhere else! So when I went back to doing it myself...I used a color much lighter than the old one I used. Right now I'm using Clairol Nice 'n Easy Ultra Gray coverage #140GY...It is a natural light brown. But because I'm in the pool every day...I have some lighter highlights from the sun. It looks very natural and it only cost $4.98!!
You two have a great day...enjoy that lunch Jean!!
COOKIE I also have hypothyroidism and have been taking meds for it as long as I can remember for they say mine is a non working thyroid. Do you take meds for yours? What is that web site for I would be inerested in looking at it for sure. I don't think I need to change my eating program much though for I don't want to mess with something that I have finally found that works for me. However, if I can learn something to incorporate in my program that will make me healthier then I am all for it. Summer is here also... we had a few nice days of Spring but alas, I do believe they are gone now.
Good Morning!
The sun is playing hide and seek so I'm not sure what kind of day it is going to be other than it is supposed to hit 90 this afternoon. The birds and I were "out" again this morning . . . I like walking early before I shower and get ready for the rest of the day. I hope I never have to get too close to any one because I would scare them without any make up on.
Maggie -- If I walk the loop around our neighborhood, it is a mile. I started off by doing it once a day and sometimes will do it twice a day. When Bob gets back he'll go with me in the evenings. He always says he will go in the morning but never seems to be at the door when I am ready to leave. We can venture out of the neighborhood and be on the lake trail which goes from the west side of the lake clear around to the campgrounds on the east side. Usually we drive into town, park, and walk that part. The city is replacing sewer and water lines on our west side of town, as well as the hospital is adding on, so there is a lot of construction workers and heavy equipment to dodge around. The bad part about the trail is that bikers and skaters also use it -- it is paved but not really wide enough for everyone at the same time. I know you will enjoy your new "little" freezer . . . I would like one that size. Lunch yesterday was just MIL and I. We ate at a new retro 50s diner -- silver siding on the outside with turqoise, purple, and black booths, etc., fun! The food was good although a little pricey but it's a tourist area so that is to be expected.
Jackie -- I envy you your swimming pool! Our lake is SO dirty and they are dredging it this summer which makes it even worse. I never have been in it; every time the kids (Bob too!) water ski, it seems they end up with an ear infection. Our city pool is crowded with little kids and is in need of replacement; it seems to be closed for repairs more often than it is open. OK, back to hair color . . . how often do you have to do it? I've toyed with the idea of trying it myself; some do look so natural and some look just awful. We have a teacher from South America and she dyes hers red except that it turns out orange and she looks plain silly. Even the kids call her "that orange haired teacher". She waits too long between dye jobs and looks really spooky.
I need to get busy. I have to get something done today so Bob will know that I did spend some time at home! Have a great day!
It feels like it will be a bit cooler today which would be fine with me. The flowers we planted are singing with joy at the nice warm weather. I love this time of the year when the green grocer stands are bursting with color and fresh grown ripe fruit. That little round seedless watermellon we got was one of the best we have ever had. I want another like it.
JEAN that sounds like a nice walk you take and that is good exercise. Hope your new perm turned out fine. Maybe you will pick a nice soft color to put on it later. Something about a color on hair that perks a person up. Those Nice & Easy colors by Clairol do cover gray nicely and are natural looking colors. It depends on how fast your hair grows as to how often you need to re-do. I do mine every three weeks and maybe a bit more often in the summer when it grows faster. Some can get by with once a month. You wll know if you use it when it is time to do it again. They all come with a 75 cent off tear off coupon inside which helps bring the price down also.
Have a great day ladies. It is almost the weekend.
OK...the idea was to wash the dog to make her smell more like us...the result is that I think we now smell like the dog!! Washing a 105 pound St. Bernard is quite an experience! However, she was SO GOOD!!! Just stood there and let us scub her down. The fact that it was almost 100 degress and the water was nice and cool might have had something to do with it! LOL
So now, the carpets AND the dog are clean. It won't last too long...Geoff comes over the evenings he's not working and takes her up to the lake. She LOVES the lake. Unfortunately, she SMELLS like the lake!!
So far it has been a very OP day. It is almost too hot to eat... notice I said ALMOST!! LOL
Happy Friday!
This week flew by and I didn't get as much done as I had hoped. I did make a SMART move this morning though . . . our main thoroughfare leading to Wal Mart and the larger grocery store is closed for resurfacing. Probably will be late fall before we can use it again. We are rerouted down a residential side street which is fine except "some" of the locals have no clue! I left at 8 AM and headed for the other grocery store which is now so busy because it is more convenient to get to and is also closer to the camp ground. It doesn't have the variety but has the same staple type stuff that the other one does. I brought home strawberries that are huge -- hope they taste as good as they look. All the watermelon have seeds but I bought it anyway. That is definitely the time to shop!
Maggie -- I went walking with the birds again this morning. I am surprised that no one is out that early because it is such a nice time of the day. It isn't supposed to be as hot today but the humidity is up. I think I will leave the air on just in case. I will have to get up my nerve to do the color bit -- if I decide I don't like it, I don't like it as it grows out either. Decisions, decisions, decisions!! My perm is TOO curly and TOO short but it will grow. I never like it at first so no big surprise there.
Jackie -- Our "rent-a-dog" likes to swim in the lake and she gets pretty pewy sometimes. She actually belongs to a neighbor but we buy dog biscuits for her and she will follow us when we walk. She is smart enough to come to the front door because Momma Cat is coming to the back door. Our own cats don't mind her but they hiss and spit at any other dog who comes in the yard. Can you give your dog a haircut for summer so she can stay a little bit cooler? Hope you don't "smell doggy" any more!
Amanda and I went to Jason's graduation last night . . . he has been working with the volunteer sheriff's patrol since last fall. Out of 13, only 4 finished the program and he was the top student in the class. The ceremony reminded me of Boy Scout days and he looked pretty official in his uniform. The next training involves the guns which is right up his alley.
I need to do some ironing so better keep moving. Have a nice "rest of the day"!
Been a busy day around here this day. Campground is fast filling up. I have been putting together a booklet of recipes that I have collected from WW meetings and friends there. I have 60 pages done up with the cover laminated and spiral bound. It is a little 4 x 6 booklet that will be so handy now that I have them all typed and organized. I have fun doing things like this.
COOKIE dogs are fun to bathe for they always smell so good afterward compared to before. If he lets his dog swim in that lake why not make him do the bathing since you are kind enough to have here there. But that would take the fun away from you.
JEAN is Jason going to go to an academy like the police do? We had to go for my job also...... wow what memories that drags up from those weeks spent there.
Good Evening!
I am tired and heading for bed soon! My day started off any 5:30 with Leonard wanting breakfast. GRRRR! Ever try to sleep with a cat nudging you and then crawling over your head? So I got up, fed him and Momma Cat, went for my walk, and got ready for the rest of my day. Did the bridal shower this morning, went to the grocery store for my salad stuff to take to church tomorrow, ironed a white shirt for Bob to wear to the wedding this afternoon, went to the wedding, then to the reception which was a fancy sit down dinner, and finally ended the day at a graduation reception. I am ready for some sleep . . . I missed my evening nap! We left before the wedding cake was served and I stayed away from the food at the graduation so I am PROUD of myself!
Maggie -- Are you mass producing your recipe booklet to sell? That sounds like a good project! I'm famous for using a recipe out of a book and then I can't remember which book. Jason hasn't said anything about going to the academy . . . since this is strictly volunteer I would doubt it. I know that they have done the classes locally so far. He really does look sharp as well as very official in his uniform. What was your job that you mentioned?
It will be an early morning since Bob has to do chores before church. The sows have to be out an hour at least so that they will eat, pee, and poop in the yard rather than in their pens with their piglets. I will do my walk and fix my salad while he is gone.
WOW JEAN you deserve to be tired after all that you went threw this day and missing your nap. Good for you to not have any cake at the wedding or refreshments at the graduation doings. I was a Peace Officer/Youth Counselor for the State of California and we had to go to the police academy and get a lot of training and have permits to pack our equalizers. That, my friend, was a long time ago now ~ seems like a different life. I am now a preachers wife. Have a good nights sleep my friend. And your good behavior today will show dividends come weigh in next.
Jean: SO PROUD of you for skipping the cake and "graduation" food!! Good Girl!! Unfortunately, I wasn't as strong. I went to our one and only supermarket in town today and found out it was "Customer Appreciation Day" and they were serving cake and coffee. Now I'm NOT a coffee drinker...but I AM a cake eater!
MAGGIE: Your cookbook sounds great...you really should mass produce! You can't have too many good cookbooks! I love looking through them and trying out new things.
Today we painted the guest bath...at long last! That finishes up the whole house...only took us a year! LOL. Tomorrow we are off to the Factory Outlet Stores. They are about 2 hours from us, but it is a pleasant drive through the wine country...peaceful and pretty...until you hit I-80!! But once we get there...we are almost at the outlets! Hopefully, I can find some running shoes and maybe something "pretty" to put in the newly painted bathroom.
Enjoy your Sunday!! (Jean...take it easy! What a schedule you had!)
It is a lovely day here in the Forest. However, this is as far as you get on this road for up a ways it is closed to through traffic. There is a fire in the mountains going East - opposite from where we are but has eaten up thousands of acres already and is not under control as of yet.
COOKIE I know by now you are out there on the road enjoying that beautiful country up there. I love driving through the wine country. When I get my convertable you may see me driving your way. Running shoes? You are going running now? What in the world have you got planned to take up your time now that all the remodeling is done? I can imagine your place is picture perfect and quite comfortable at the same time. Have fun at the outlets. The little booklet I just made is just recipes that I have tried and like and have written down from meetings and friends. Trying to keep organized here with the paper. I can't have very many cookbooks in this small space so when I like something I will type it up and get it into a booklet or put it in my MasterCook program. Before we ever first started traveling during Cowboys sebaticals I went through my books and typed up most of our favorites and have them spiral bound in categories and made a nice box for them to slide into. There are six of those that are 4x8 snuggled together. If I didn't have any other cookbooks these would do me ~ but I do have other books anyway. My categories are meat, sweets, misc. & breakfast, salads & veggies, breads & grains, soup, sand & muchies. Then I have the smaller 4x6 two booklets that I have put together so far ~ one of the smoothies and then this latest one of the recipes from WW and friends that go there. This is an ongoing project which I do enjoy. Cowboy bought me a laminator and a personal sized punch and spiral machine from an office supply place. It is neat that they now make those things smaller so they don't take up much space and I can have them in this trailer. My laminator is narrow enough that is sits handily behind my printer on the same little stand. And with my little lap top that slides away under that stand, so Turn doesn't sit on it, out of the way off the dining table when not in use. All very handy and a place for everything and everything in it's place. We are always on the look out for the smaller version of what we want to have and use now. And I will be looking for the smaller version of clothing pretty soon. Like even in the kitchen tool department I gave up my food processor and kept the blender. Lots of choices had to be made in every area. Well, enough of that for now.
Not much going on...went swimming...went to breakfast...is this counterproductive??
MAGGIE: I hope the fires are not threatening you!! Keep us informed as long as you can. Let us know if you have to evacuate! How scary!!
No...I'm not running...I just wear running shoes in my daily travels. Good support....make for happy feet!!
