I'll be honest... food is a huge comfort for me too, and I used to binge whenever I felt sad or upset or depressed. However, I have found that exercise is actually a BIGGER mood booster than emotional eating. Try to find an exercise that you really enjoy, and just go do it whenever you feel upset or sad. I was going through a funk for about a week (I currently don't have a job, and the job hunt has gotten me discouraged)... really depressed and down on myself. Reverted to bad habits... that seemed to make me feel even worse because then I felt like a failure ON TOP of my other bad feelings. However, a few days ago I pulled out the good ol' dance dance revolution pad. I always found that to be so much fun. And... I just started doing it. Let all my frustrations and emotions motivate me, and I danced and danced until my legs were shaky. After that... I felt SOOOOO much better. Now, I have been doing it every day, and I gotta tell you, I feel so upbeat now. So much better than the helplessness I felt before. Sometimes getting up and doing something you love, that is also good exercise, really helps. Good luck!
