Default my pizza

I decided last night I wanted pizza, Little Cesar's 5.00 large was calling me. But in stead I go to Publix to see what I wanted to get to cook for dinner. As soon as I walked in they had the BOGO free bins and what was in there..... PIZZA CRUSTS!! that had packs of 3 7inch crust, buy one get one free. I was intrigued, never made my own pizza before. I put the crust in my cart, then got an onion and some mushrooms, turkey Italian sausage, turkey pepperoni, I already had some bell pepper at home. Then it was off to find sauce, ragu seemed to be the most popular but I knew I didn't like ragu spaghetti sauce so I didn't want to try their pizza sauce. I found this brand called L E Roselli's it is 20cals per 1/4cup. The pizza crust was 280, the pepperoni was 25cals for 17, the sausage I think is about 160 a link. I only used 1/8 cup of sauce, 1/8 cup for each diced veggie, 1/3 of the sausage link, 5 pepperonis and a table spoon of bacon bits.

We cut eat pizza in to 4 peices, The kids each had a whole pizza, Hubby and I had 1 and 1/2 and then a big Cesar salad(a tablespoon of Ken's Light Cesar ) I ate 3 pieces saved the other 3 for my lunch today. It was so good, better than a 1 topping pizza from the pizza place, and i think it may have beat the super supreme from Pizza Hut. The cost was 30.00 but I still have plenty of meat and veggies to make more pizzas. I wonder if I could make these up and freeze them?

ETA: I also used about 1/3 cup of mozzarella cheese per pizza

I love making pizza! It has become something my boyfriend and I do together and he doesn't mind my low fat ingredients, he enjoys them. He uses deli ham, turkey pepperoni, oscar meyer turkey bacon (this brand tastes the most normal, not as healthy as the 98% ff kind, but it actually tastes like bacon) to make his meaty man half and it still saves huge on saturated fat vs. pizza hut.

For crust I've been using reduced fat crescent roll dough, which we really like, its flaky. And I use the 2% mozzarella cheese.

It's such a joy to find a good and healthy swap for pizza that everyone likes!

That sounds like a great recipe. I've never made my own pizza. One of the reasons why I have stayed away from pizza (besides being lactose intolerant) is because I'm afraid of the calories in it. I should try it this week and see how it comes out.

hum, crescent rolls for crust sounds awesome. Do you just roll the whole container out on a pan then top?

I like to use pita bread for pizzas.

1 pita bread - 200 calories
1/4 cup Ragu pizza sauce - 30 calories
1/4 cup skim mozzerella - 80 calories

Then whatever calories you get from toppings. I skip the meat and use green and red peppers, onions and black olives.

Its not too bad.

These use to be good things to have on hand for the kids to make their own snacks or quick meals on busy nights. Sometimes they would use french bread instead of the pita. They liked making their own.

You can totally freeze pre-made pizzas, just stack them on a cookie sheet with wax paper between each until they're frozen solid, then wrap tightly in saran wrap or in ziplock bags if they'll fit. Most toppings should freeze pretty well, certainly the plain cheese pizza with sauce will, but I like to leave the toppings off and put those on fresh when I thaw and bake it. Meat toppings freeze really well.

It's even better if you have homemade pizza dough, like I made this week and froze in lumps. This afternoon, I'm making bbq pizza, my way. Hopefully, it'll be a tiny bit less unhealthy than the pizza restaurant. Viva pineapple!

I used to use frozen bread dough. There were a few to many times though I forgot to take it out early enough to thaw. Now I've started making my own dough. It only takes a few minutes and I am slowly transitioning from all white flour to about 75% whole wheat. Right now I'm about 50-50.

Why didn't I ever think of making it and freezing them already portioned? They would thaw quickly if I did personal sized pizzas.

I've recently went veg and I think I love my pizza more now than every before. Onions, peppers, carrots, broccoli, and green beans. Really whatever I have on hand. I do use a LOT more sauce than before but I generally don't need cheese at all.

I knida figured that since you can buy frozen supreme pizzas that maybe I could freeze my own to. I'm a meat eater, I LOVE meat. so I prefer it to veggies but I am adding more veggies to my arsenal of food. The only ones I am will to add to pizza are the standards, mushroom bell pepper and onion. I might try banana peppers.

Try the broccoli. It is awesome and totally makes a veggie pizza outstanding.

I like broccoli, but the thought of it on pizza, really grosses me out.

I live alone so I make my pizza's with pita bread as a crust. 160 calories in the pita bread, than tons of veggies and a smidge of low-fat cheese. It has become one of my all time favorite dinners.

I plan on having the pizza again tonight so I sat down with pen, paper, and calculator. The calorie count is 526 for the whole 7in pizza. I only ate 3/4 of it so that is about 395.

Faith, I have made my vegetarian husband pizza using vegan cheese substitutes and it came out well.

We buy the whole wheat pizza dough from Trader Joe's, only 99 cents a package.

I find if you chop the broccoli up really, really fine, it's almost like adding pesto to your pizza. I also make whole wheat pizza dough in my electric bread maker. Cheap and easy! There are lots of great recipes on-line.
