Hi, I am new to the site. I have about 50 lbs to lose and am hoping to lose at least a big chunk of that by this summer. I've gained almost all of that in just the last 5 years. My weight has recently begun to affect a lot of other aspects of my health and it is now more than just an issue of looks. I'm 53 years old and I want to be healthy and active into my senior years.
Okay, I also want to look good.
I used to control my weight through running, but I now have developed osteoarthritis (cartilage damage) in my knees and I have a strong belief that some of that was due to running when I was not lightweight. So, now, I can't run anymore and am having to change a lot of habits. I haven't had a chance to check out many of the other forums yet, but I expect I will be spending time on forums dealing with cooking and low-impact exercise, if there are such things. I like music (all kinds!), gardening, science, travel, genealogy and crafts. Also animals. I've been pet-free for the past 2 years (since my dog died), but I am getting a puppy in April! (very excited)
