So my Dr. informed me that I carry my weight externally. I guess this means that even though my body % fat is fairly low I still look a little rolly polly. While this is good for my organs it's not so good for my pride! I know I should be thankful since this is more healthy but part of me wishes that it was opposite.
Have you guys heard of those "fat skinny" people. maybe I am the opposite
i think maybe your doctor was referring to subcutaneous vs. visceral fat. subcutaneous is the kind that is just under the skin (ie: that you can pinch and poke). i think most women who tend to put on weight around the butt, hips, and thighs first are usually the subcutaneous. fortunately, this is the easiest type to get rid of. visceral fat, which is fat inside your torso, surrounding the organs and such, is harder to lose. it is associated with apple shaped people who mostly gain weight around the belly first. it is also associated with greater health risks, cardiovascular disease, etc.
ohh i gotcha.. i'm definitely alllll subcutaneous then. but im an hourglass (i guess) so i dont gain much in my tummy, i gain in hips and thighs and arms.
my boyfriend has visceral fat on his stomach, which is why its harder and not flabby.
I am 100% apple. My legs are basically a size eight, but my waist is like 33 inches. Ughughugh. Jeans shopping is the death of me. This is genetic, right?

I carry a ton of weight in my thighs. My thighs are a whole size to size and a half larger than my waist. My chest is a 36D and I wear a size 10-12 pants, but I could be an 8 in my waist.
i used to think it was my butt...but since ive lost weight ive noticed my butt is normal sized! and its my HIPS that carry all the weight and my love handles
i am a hourglass/pear and i carry mine in the lowerbody but i have boobs that are big in cup size but my back never gets too big at all. i have been a 34 band from when i was 150 to when i got up to 213. craziness.
i lose weight in my stomach first cause thats where i gain it last. all i hear lately is how small my waist is. cause it will get tiny and my butt looks like a plumped onion *sighs*
lol bjeweld im kind of the same . i have a tiny waist and tummy and a big rear section! But i love the fact that im going to look AWESOME when im done losing.
I'm apple shaped... even at my lowest weight (120lb - 5'2" - I was 19 at the time) I was above the "dangerous" line as far as waist-to-hip ratio. (I don't remember the numbers anymore, you can look it up online easily enough.) I also have chubby arms, but I tend to lose those before the belly fat. Right now I'm thin enough that I don't have people asking me if I'm pregnant, but it has happened when I was 10-15 pounds heavier.
Soybean, Thanks!!!!! I am getting tighter but when i sit I still have a little belly overlap, and my thighs are pretty big, but after years of soccer and being a runner I fear there is no hope.
