There should be no reason you can't drink protein drinks while nursing, but you might want to check with your doctor first.
You'll find that as soon as you stop breastfeeding, IF you begin some sort of diet simultaneously, you'll drop pounds pretty quickly (I did).
Start slow, since your breastfeeding. Incorporate some exercise daily--even a 20 minute walk a day will be beneficial. As for a diet, I've learned that reducing processed foods, eating healthy foods, watching fat intake and counting calories works best for me.
Remember the mantra: Eat less, move more.
