Default Scared of dark chocolate

I hear eating, like 2 oz, of dark chocolate a day is really good for you because of antioxidants and other "good stuff." But I'm afraid if I do that I'll eat... 50oz. I dont know if I can control myself. Does anyone eat dark chocolate daily? How do you control yourself? Is it really worth it?

I eat a little bit daily...just a square which = 1 oz. I'm not sure how I control myself..I just tell myself that I'm only allowed to have one square......Oh how I savor that square.

I can't eat just a small amount of any kind of chocolate, so no dark chocolate for me. There are other foods you can eat that offer similar benefits (there are lots of foods that are high in antioxidants), so there's no reason why you have to eat dark chocolate for the health benefits.

If you can eat 2 oz and stop there, then go for it. But, for me, I find it's better just to stay away from chocolate. Not only will I immediately crave more, but I'll have chocolate cravings for at least another day, if not days.

I'm not much of a chocolate person, actually I don't really like it at all, but I think with anything, if you can't stop at a single serving it's probably not a good idea to even go down the path of tempting yourself.

When I am having trouble controlling how much chocolate (or anything really) I eat, I pack the correct portion with my lunch for work. That way it is impossible to go back for seconds. And it is a nice treat during the workday!

I'm like Barb, once I start, it's hard to stop. The only way it works for me is to buy single serving sizes. Splitting with someone else is a good option too!

According to the labelling on my TJ dark chocolate, their small square is 1/2 oz. That's what I have from time to time. I'm planning to have one tonight - I've been hungry today, and it will help.

I keep dove dark chocolate squares at work. At first I would tell myself "1 square Denise..that's ALL" but then would eat another, then another...then all of a sudden my mouth was kinda raw and my stomach was hurting and water didn't taste good when washing it down.. (I think it's the high cacao content. I try not to go under 60%) That was reason enough for me to just savor the one square and not over do it. And just like zeffryn said...oh yes indeed I savor it.

85% dark chocolate. One square after lunch and one
square after dinner. Takes getting used to but sooooo
good. And you find regular chocolate way too sweet.
Also if you try and eat too much it makes you feel a
bit ill.
At least that is the way it works with me. I also don't
eat anything with sugar besides the bit with this so
I really am sensitive to sweetness. When I get some
by accident I spit it out - never would have thought
that would happen!

I usually only eat 100 calories worth (about 1 oz I think.) I don't eat it everyday, but when I do I take a long time to eat it. No chewing! I just let it slowly melt in my mouth. I really savor it and make sure I'm not doing anything to distract myself while I'm eating it. It's more enjoyable that way and I don't desire any more when I eat it this way.

Dark chocolate is the only chocolate I can eat in moderation. It is amazing. I can eat 100 calories worth (or less) with no issue. I keep dark chocolate bars on hand at home and then eat a small piece almost every night.

Most things I can not eat in moderation which why it is a bit surprising.

Yeah, I love dark - really dark, almost to the point of being bitter - chocolate. It is so satisfying to me tht really a couple of squares is all I want.

I don't eat it every day though. Probably 2x a week, I'll have a couple of squares after dinner. It's one of the treats that I rotate through - some days it's a glass of red wine, some days it's a vodka martini, and some days it's a few squares of chocolate.

Maybe I could save it till the end of the day on my high calorie days and brush my teeth immediately afterwards?? Mmmm dark chocolate and toothpaste.... haha.

Maybe I should post a new thread instead of going off on a random tangent (especially one this pathedic), but Photochick, I can't seem to get vodka martini's right... they taste gross when I make them (I even went to bartending school to god sakes!). One part vermooth and four parts vodka and two olives. Right? Actually, I have more alcohol questions... Maybe I'll stat a thread or go searching...

I like mine a LOT drier than that. I pour a tiny bit of vermouth into the glass and swirl it around to coat the glass, then pour the rest back in the bottle. Then add the vodka. Too much more vermouth makes it way too sweet for me.

Add a splash of olive juice and you've got a dirty martini.

I also like citron martinis, made with citron vodka and a twist, instead of olives.
