Well, my girlfriend (raw23) has been browsing and using this forum for a while and i have been browsing as well. I have seen some things that i like so i decided to join!! so....welcome to me!!
my story...ive only been overweight for 3-4 years now, basically once i started college and stopped playing sports. i love food and thats been my downfall. i gained some weight and was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. i was having to take shots and pills and i didnt like it and the doctor told me that losing some weight would help.
well, i took that and ran with it. i was diagnosed on July 21st and, as of today, have lost 32 pounds, from 326 (at time of diagnosis, i know i have been higher) to 294 today. I am on a special diet designed by my nutritionist and while my girl thinks im losing the weight too fast, its working well for me. i have about 1200 calories a day and my sugars are under control (which is good b/c when i was diagnosed my fasting blood glucose was 400 and for the first 2 weeks i couldnt get it below 200).
my hardest thing is giving up my carbs...i love bread, biscuits, buns, all that stuff. but (and ask my girl) i've really been working at this and i know i can make it. i've given up the bad foods in the hope that i can make this work.
so with that, im here...here to ask questions and answer some as well. i look forward to being able to help and to be helped!!
yeah...it does make it a lot easier. she keeps me from eating the pizza i so want and i keep her from having that mcdonalds that neither of us need. shes my own little support group. she doesnt need to lose weight though so i have no idea why she is here.
It is soooo much easier when you travel this journey together! My DH (of almost 30 years) lost 65 lbs while supporting me. It has been a lifestyle change for both of us!
glad to be here...i've got questions and i think my nutritionist is tired of me asking lol
i've been losing some weight (32 pounds in about 6 weeks) but my fat on my body is still here. is it possible im losing muscle instead of fat? that really worries me. ill be at the doc tomorrow and she will do the test to see how much fat/lean mass/water % my body is so i guess ill see tomorrow but it still worries me.
I'm sitting here cracking up at you two. My DH and I used to sit in the same room and chat, in the chatroom where we met... at the same time too. Him on his desktop, and me on my laptop! LOL. Have fun with this. I think it's awesome you are working together to achieve your goals to better health!
Now, down to business.... weight loss will definitely help your blood sugar issues, but exercise is as (if not more) important. To keep your muscle tone and in bringing down those numbers too!
Good luck to you both. I'm looking forward to seeing more posts.
working out is the hardest for me....between working full time and school full time i dont have much more time for anything else. luckily our apartment complex has a workout room so that makes it a bit easier. once i get into a routine it will be good.
got my question answered today...the nutritionist told me that of the 18 pounds ive lost in the three weeks since ive seen her, 13.7 of it was pure fat and its ok to lose some muscle mass. oh well, she said all was going well, i was 295 on her scale with my clothes on, 293 on my scale naked (almost) this morning. go me!! if i can do this, anyone can, i swear!!
Great Job!! You're off to a Wonderful start! I look forward to seeing more posts from the both of you. I'm sure you are anxious to get your 30 posts in so you can get some trackers up! Again Good Luck
