Exclamation State Fair Fare Sure to Shock

I live in Texas and I don't know if this is national knowledge (though I think I saw a piece on GMA last year) but our state fair has slowly turned into a what-can-be-deep-fried-and-put-on-a-stick-fest. Granted, I've not been to any other state fair, so I don't know if this is commonplace. Generally, I go to the fair for the Texas-OU game and a ride or two, maybe some cotton candy and a carnival game. Ya know, good clean fun.

I just wanted to share with you the new foods that will appear at this year's fair. Mind you, we already have things like deep fried Twinkies, deep fried candy bars, and our famous corn dogs...and this insane turkey leg the size of my head that people are just crazy about.

So...here's the list of new stuff:

Fernie's All-American Fried Grilled Cheese Sandwich. White bread sandwich with American and cheddar cheeses dipped in egg-and-milk batter, coated with bread crumbs, and fried.

Chicken Fried Bacon. Bacon with seasoning, battered, breaded, deep fried, served with ranch or honey mustard sauce.

Fried Banana Split. Banana and honey peanut butter rolled in balls, battered, and deep-fried, topped with powdered sugar, caramel and chocolate syrups, peanuts, whipped cream, banana split-flavored ice cream bites, and cherry.

Texas Fried Jelly Bellys. Jelly Bellys rolled in funnel cake batter and fried.

Deep Fried S'mores. Marshmallow and chocolate chips sandwiched between two graham crackers, dipped in batter, fried, and dusted in powdered sugar.

Fire & Ice.
Pineapple ring, battered and deep-fried, topped with banana-flavored whipped cream that's been frozen in liquid nitrogen so it smokes.

Fried Chocolate Truffles.
Dark chocolate truffle rolled in cocoa powder, battered, deep-fried, dusted in cinnamon, sugar, and cocoa powder.

Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Waffle Balls.
Strawberries in chocolate shell, dipped in waffle batter, deep-fried, custed with powdered sugar, served on a stick.

Ain't Texas great?

I say that as a born and bred Texan, btw. Just slightly relocated.

Yes, I've heard of the fried pb&j sandwiches, though I can't say I've had one...I can't imagine I would like it very much.

Photochick, I'm a native Texan too I never would have imagined as a kiddo that one day I could go to the fair and order a fried grilled cheese sandwich and a pineapple ring frozen in liquid nitrogen and then settle in for the pig races.

I bet there are going to be lots of elastic waistbands at the fair this year...

Ok-- that is pretty darn scary!
Where in TX are you?
I grew up and lived in Houston most of my life and find it much easier to lose weight and keep it off away from all of the temptations and HUGE portions at restaurants!
Good LORD!

The Fire & Ice sounds scary, but I'll admit that a lot of the other stuff sounds like great binge food, which scares me about myself! Luckily, I don't live in Texas because I wouldn't survive for a month!

Yuck!. Fried PB&J sammies? Whats this world coming to? I've never heard of that...
I've seen fried chocolate bars and twinkies, and thought that was insanity.
I haven't been to a local fair in a long time. I think I'll stay clear of them right now...haha.

Thanks! hehe.
I've actually never had anything "abnormal" fried. Maybe I'm deprived?. I'm sure it tastes heavenly, as most fried foods do. I guess I'll never know!.

Those deep fried smores sound amazing. They probably pack in enough calories to be counted as my entire cheat day haha.

We just recently had the famous Rib Cook-Off come through here. My BF really looked forward to it, but it didn't sound like my kind of place being a vegetarian. Figuring I would have little to no options, I bought veggie-kabobs from Trader Joes and baked them before we left. And let me say.. GOOD THING! I may have looked a little out of place with a tupperware full of veggies (to dip in all the yummy BBQ sauces!), but if it weren't for that my only "veggie" options would be fried onion rings, fried zucchini, fried pickles, fried corn on the cob, fried dough, funnel cake, fried ice cream.

I stuck to my own yummy veggies the whole night and watched in awe as people devoured these heart attacks on a plate.

It is everywhere lol. I went to the state fair this year here in Ohio. We were lucky enough to get tickets to see Ted Nugent there, what a wonderful show. Anyway, I saw things for sale I couldn't believe lol deep fried oreo cookies was one of the things I couldn't believe. They looked really nasty.

Oper
We got to see the pig races too, it was quite fun.
