Red face Learning Tennis

On Friday my roommate (who is also "trying" to lose weight) and I bought raquets and balls and went to the tennis court by my house. I had no idea it was so difficult! Whenever I've watched people play tennis I've thought how it looks so easy. Boy was I wrong!!

Anyways, I like it other than the fact I need to learn how. I get my exercise by running after the ball a lot!

There's really no point in this besides my sharing my new adventure. Hopefully I'll find a book or online site to help me learn.

You should sign up for a lesson! Alot of communitys give some cheap group lessons. I just started playing tennis too and a lesson really got me going with it.

I bought racquets and a can of balls, and went to the court to play with my daughter. We were so AWFUL!! But guess how much fun we had? A TON!! And we're going back!

I just started playing tennis also like 2 weeks ago. The first thing I learned from playing tennis--I do not have very good hand-eye coordination lol. My boyfriend is trying to teach me, and even though I suck it is still really fun. We can finally start to rally for more than like 30 seconds now haha.

It IS really hard, but looks easy, i LOVE TENNIS
Book to buy, "tennis to win" by Billy Jean King
She was the bad *** of tennis from back in the day, and challenged the top guy player and BEAT his butt!
REALLY!!!
She rocks,
but anyway the book is super old, but VERY good shows pictures on how to hold the racket and when to hit the ball, etc... very easy and FUN read...
Stay on it, Tennis is a very good way to work out, mainly because you have to move your bodies in many directions and up and down. The more you suck, the more you get to run around and squat over to get the balls, the better workout - LOL, think of it like that!

Plenty of people can give lessons too, could be a HS kid or some seniors in the court next to you!

That's a very good point, Vix, about bending over and running after the ball more. I certainly do feel some exercise in that. Thanks for the tip, I'll check out the book, assuming I can find it.

I'm going to check out the community education and see if there are lessons being offered. It is fun! Thanks everyone!

I took a tennis class in high school. I was an ok player, but I really enjoyed it. I took up raquetball for awhile in my early 20s, but I have not played tennis since college. Today, I signed up for a tennis class! It's a six-week class. I'm excited!

DH and I started playing tennis last week. I played tennis for over 3 years way back when but now it's like I'm back to square one We run after the balls a lot since both of us are trying to catch up to our LONG gap of not playing the sport It's a great workout in disguise I think. I also signed us for a Cardio Tennis class for once a week for 6 weeks which was offered by our county recreation organization. Maybe you can find out what is available locally for taking classes. Also if you can a school near by and they have tennis courts you can just go there and find out if there are coaches there who might give you lessons on the side. Hope you keep playing. It is loads of fun.
