Smile I have a stupid question here.

I just started jogging if that's what you call it, it's a more like i walk for a little bit and than i jog, today was the first time i met my goal for myself as far as "I think i can jog from this point to that point without stopping. Here's the question i have, How long will it take for me to see some resault's,
Also will this help with belly fat? btw i follow the weight watcher's plan for abt 5yr's & in the first couple of yr's i lost 65pd's after that nothing.
I have been a walker for abt 2 yr's, here's the problem i have been stuck at this weight 147.5 (5'4)for almost 3 yr's i don't lose & my clothes still fit the same? Some day's in the summer i can walk anywhere's from 8 to 10 mile's, i love the outdoor's. In the winter i'm stuck inside most the time & walk on the treadmill, So is it possible that jogging might help ? My daughter is getting married next summer and i want to be in the best shape ever.

Hey-That's great that you're taking up jogging! I have never considered myself a jogger, but have been jogging 3x a week for the last month or so, and I'm actually enjoying it! Who knew!
I have been following the Couch to 5K program that you can read about here:

http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

It's a 9 week program. I know there are some threads in the exercise section of 3FC of people who are doing this program that you can check out.

Good luck!
Beth

I agree with Beth, the Couch to 5K is a very good and gradual program that will ease you into running, and it's exactly what you are doing run 1 minute, walk 1 minute to start.... Good luck!!

There is a Cool Runners April thread on 3FC also, so check it out....

By the way, your title says "I have a stupid question here." ... At 3FC, there is never EVER a stupid question... So ask anything your little heart desires and we will try to direct you, as best we can, in the right direction...

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress

The problem may be that your body is so used to walking after a couple of years and now it needs a challenge, you've reached the dreaded plateau... My suggestion would be to intensify your workout, by jogging more often, walking hills, walking at a faster pace. On the treadmill you can do some High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) warm up for 5 minutes, run all out for 1 minute, walk for 1 minute, and so on for 20 minutes, then cool down... This is a proven way to burn fat faster. When I started jogging I really noticed a difference in my weight loss, I started jogging at 48, I'm 51 and I still jog, I am definitely a but I love running....

Do you weight train at all? If not you should really start because as you make muscle your metabolism increases and in turn this burns more fat. And as you get older this helps to keep our aging bone mass in check, this is very important you don't want to break any bones as you get older...

I hope this helps....

I think jogging will help simply because it's something different. Your body is probably use to the walking by now and jogging is just another way to mix it up. Once you get more comfortable with that, definitely had some high intensity intervals in there - treadmill sprints, hill climbs, whatever - and you should see some changes.

I heartily agree that incorporating weight training, even just 2 days a week, would benefit you as well.

I also have been doing alittle bit with hand weight's, i 'm glad to see i'm not the only one who has started jogging in there 40's, i'm 46 well for just a few short month's. I just wanted to add that i walk everyday on the trail's or the dreadmill. so i hope that my the end of the month i'll be able to do aleast 1.5 mi, I have to have something to keep me busy now that i quit smoking after 30 + yr's, smoke free for the last 10 month's.
I can remember saying in the past when i saw someone running/ jogging was "the only thing that would make me run was a big barking dog's or bee's". Now as i'm running with my dog right beside me.

I hope to start to see some movement in the scale soon, it's been close to 2 wk's, i'm think i'll just put the scale away for a few week's or so. (It's an evil scale anyway's, everytime i go into the bathroom it tell's me go ahead and step on,lol.).

Thank you so much for the link's , All of you have been very helpful,

Toni

I'm so glad I looked at this thread! I have just started doing the same thing, I walk to one lamp-post, then run to the next, walk to the next lamp-post and run for two. I am actually enjoying it, I never thought I would say that I am enjoying running And its great to just bring in a change to the exercise routine. Thanks to those that mentioned cool running - I had the page bookmarked but had never got around to looking at it! Now I am looking at it

ILene: I agree i need to do more in the way of weight training, i do do a little with hand weight's, i can't afford to join a gym right now as my dd is getting married next June and let's just say it's not going to be cheap, she's an only child.
Your right abt the quit smoking, it's was not easy. but i did it once and for all, best part is i didn't gain any weight and it's been 10 mo's. Sometime's for some odd reason i crave one? I don't do it.

Sorry it's my second posting this morning, I thought abt posting in the April coolrunner's but i'm not running 2 mi's at 1 time yet.

But im so excited this morning while i was on the dreadmill, "Victory Was Mine" First time ever i jogged/walked 2 mile's in 30min's & 29sec. I only do the dreadmill on bad weather day's, it rained last night so the parking area at the trail's are muddy & i won't go without my dog,(muddy paw's in the car) right now is not a real busy time of yr (yet) on the trail, needless to say she make's me feel safer than just me carring around pepper spray.
