Default trazadone and lexapro

I'm 44 with moderate depression and low motivation along with anxiety. I've been on lexapro with ambien at night. I now have to take ambien EVERY night to sleep. My doctor and I decided to lower the ambien to get off of it and he started me on trazadone 100mgs. I know the two ( lexapro and trazadone) are antidepressants, now i'm worried that the two are the same and I'm over dosing.
I need to sleep. I have to be on the mark at my job and I need my sleep. I called my doctor and he said the two are ok together. I still am nervous because they both increase serotonin.... oy vie.. what to do?
Has anyone been on both? or just trazadone and how are you doing on it???

I take Celexa in the morning and Trazadone at night. It has been a god send for me to finally get a good night's sleep.

I used trazadone for many years and it does wonders helping me sleep, however, one of it's worst side effects for me was weight gain, it was quick and it was massive.

I've gained six pounds in a month.. I'm doing weight watchers and eating mostly salads and veggies.. with grilled chicken.. I'm even more depressed...I still have a headache also to boot.. these meds I think are worse than the depression itself..sigh

Trazadone is a mild antidepressant with a sedative effect and enhances the main antidepressant you are on. It's not an overdose of antidepressants. I used it for quite awhile with no problems. It did make me want to eat junkfood. Sometimes just being aware of weight gain as a possible side-effect helps us see through the cravings.

Remeron is a similar med to trazadone, antidepressant with a sedative effect, etc. This also has weight gain issues.

Another med they give in smaller doses for a sleep aid is Seroquel, an antipsychotic. This also has weight gain as a possible side-effect.

But these meds do not have the scarier side effects of Ambien.

I've been diagnosed as depressed since age 22 and then correctly diagnosed as bipolar at 31. I have some medication experience. I'm not a doctor.
Good luck. Don't give up.
