Remeron & Weight Gain? Newbie questions.

  • Hi! I am new here, and I am full of questions.

For the past 2 years, I have been dealing with a bout of SEVERE depression. I have gone from 128 lbs & about 17% body fat to 178 lbs and about 53% body fat. I feel disgusting!

Recently, I found a new psychiatrist that finally correctly diagnosed me with dysthymia with recurrent episodes of severe depression. I was on Lexapro 20 mg, but he switched me to Remeron. It has worked wonders. I finally feel normal for the first time in my life! However, one of the side effects is weight gain. UGH! So, he put me on Topamax to counteract that (I also suffer from migraines, and Topamax helps with that, also.).

Is anybody around here dealing with Remeron & weight gain issues? If so, how are you dealing with it? I am looking for expert advice, please.

Thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions!
  • Sorry! Did a search of this forum, and found out a lot of info. Maybe I need to ask my doc for a new antidepressant. I am lil disappointed. Remeron has worked so well for my depression. I am afraid that I won't find another med that will help as well.

    Thanks!
  • If the Remeron is working, maybe the Topamax will offset the weighty side-effects. Topamax should help lessen your appetite.
    Good luck.
