So, I'm currently at work and wondering if I'm doing something wrong here. I've been losing weight very slowly...I don't think it's what I eat, but I just wanted to double check with you lovely ladies; and see if anyone had any ideas.
Breakfast, I usually skip...I know, bad idea. Got to work on that.
Lunch at my office, everyday is a ob&j on whole wheat, some pretzels, a nonfat yogurt, and an apple.
Dinner is something with boneless, skinless chicken, veggies, and brown rice, or something vegetarian. Sometimes, whole wheat pasta.
I would say you should work on that breakfast thing. That's what starts your metabolism. Next, I would mix up your lunch. Your body gets bored with the same thing all the time. And if you are bored it will cause you to eat things you shouldn't. Are having small meals with snacks or just three big meals? Snacks are ideal throughout the day to keep your metabolism up.
I agree - definitely work on the breakfast thing. I used to skip breakfast, and I can't imagine doing that ever again. It's so important. Snacks throughout the day are good - especially if they are veggies or fruit.
Also, you may want to start counting your calories or keeping track of your intake in some way. If I don't keep track of the nutritional value of what I eat, then I can't lose a thing. By not counting, you may be eating too much or too little, which can throw your body off and slow down (or stop) your weight loss.
I'd say to definitely add more protein and more vegetables. I'm still surprised every time I make an omelette w/ egg whites and veggies, and find myself with less than 250 calories for a meal that has left me almost stuffed. (And that's when you get to think "I MUST have done something wrong because I'm not hungry all the time" Seriously, protein rocks.)
I'm definitely going to start eating breakfast, and my fiancé and I try and eat mostly vegetarian as it is, so we're not lacking in the vegetable department. I'm going to be cutting back on the carbs, and upping the tofu/chicken/egg intake for protein.
As for meals, I am usually eating lunch, and snacking on the apple/pretzels throughout the day...Along with drinking at least 64oz of water while I'm here.
I should start tracking my calories again on ***********.com....*plots* I'd forgotten about it.
Try to balance your calories out throughout the day- adding breakfast would help with this. I have trouble when my heartiest or at least biggest meal is dinner. And I also agree to throw some vegetables in there, whether you incorporate them with lunch and dinner (salads, veggies on sandwiches, etc...) or as snacks.
I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents. I would suggest splitting up your meals a bit too - obviously as you said that breakfast is something you're working on, but maybe you could have the apple with some almonds or something (to balance the protein and carbs) between breakfast and lunch and then something else later on in the day. I'm thinking a "hearty" snack slash tiny meal, if you know what I mean. Should boost your metabolism and keep you fueled all day.
I think that also switching up your meals is really important - maybe you could try having a day with higher calories and then a day with lower calories off and on for a while. This has worked for me when I needed a kick in the weight loss.
Try working out more. It's about burning more calories but also about increasing your metabolism and giving you more spring in your steps throughout the day. Without exercise, weightloss is gonna be slow since it's on calorie restriction alone and you'll have to restrict even more as you lose weight.
Yes, breakfast is really key, it jump starts your metabolism. If you have problems eating a lot of foods in the morning, you can do a protein shake...they're delicious. Also it may sound weird, but maybe some more fats can help too.. Good fats from nuts. You can maybe give up your pretzels with lunch for a handful of nuts later in the afternoon. Another thing that is key is portion control and calorie counting. Looking at what you're eating it's hard to estimate how much you're eating, so you could be eating too little or just too much...
