Smile After lurking for a week, I thought I'd introduce myself

Well, I finally did it! Last week I decided enough is enough....I don't want to live this way anymore. So....I went to the farmers market and bought all kinds of tasty fruits and vegetables....came home and cut them up into nice pieces and put them in ziplock bags. I was finishing up the last broccoli and somehow stabbed myself in the palm and ended up going to the emergency room! Can you believe it?? I guess I won't apply for a sous chef position any time soon!

Anyway, the fat Gods can try to keep me down....but it won't work! I'm determined to lose this weight. I weighed myself last week and I weigh 225LBS! My weight never really affected my health (as far as I could tell), but lately I've been getting bad headaches, ankle pain, short of breath....and just feel uncomfortable. My youngest child is 8 years old and I want to be able to do all the fun things a Mom should do, without feeling like crap all the time.

I've been reading posts faithfully everyday, and I think I'm ready to become more involved. I know I'm going to need to lean on you guys, and hopefully I can offer you support too.

Lisa

Congratulations on your decision, Lisa! I am in the same boat. Don't feel too bad myself, except body image and out of shape. But the ladies here are wonderful, so we should do it!
Sorry about your palm, though...Don't worry, you will get the hang of it soon...do you cook often?

Thanks for the welcome. Actually, I love to cook....but I guess my knife skills leave something to be desired.

I have an appointment today to see my doctor. I want to get a check-up and find out how my 42 year old body is holding up. I want to check out my cholesterol, blood pressure....the whole works! I haven't done that in years. I'm a nurse and you'd think I'd know better....but no. I'll let you know how it goes. Wish me luck. Lisa

Hi Lisa ~
Glad you're with us!!! Your story is similar to mine and it sounds like you're planning on doing things the right way... seeing your doctor first and all!!
I hope your palm is doing ok... btw... what type of nurse are you? I'm a Psychiatric RN for a locked inpatient unit at a local hospital.
Nice to meet you!
