I'm considering adding a rowing machine to my pile of schtuff. I did a couple of searches here on them but am not coming up with much. Anyone have any BTDT type of advice for what to look for and/or avoid? I'm thinking a piston-type so I'm not out too much moolah if it ends up not being my thing. That and I haven't knocked over any banks lately.

Kind of a late response, but I just joined...

I am a long time rower on a Concept2 indoor rower. These rowers use a spinning flywheel design, far superior to any piston-based rower; which I would avoid like the plague. Concept2 also hosts a huge online rowing community, including motivational prizes, forums for competition, weight-loss, general health, etc.
