Default Will this belly NEVER go away!!!!???

This has been on my mind for several days and I see that lalique has a similar thought on their mind as well (thunder thighs thread recently started). I have done crunches, sit ups, holding my muscles in, and more and I STILL have this terrible jelly belly that literally looks like a bald "donut" spare tire. I'm sick of this thing! Any others have success in getting rid of the same thing? I know, I know...I am still keeping my diet up because I know you just have to keep losing, overall...but wondered if there was anything anyone else tried to help this problem area (if there is help to be had ).

Thanks!!

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!! God bless America!

Unfortunately belly fat is first to come and last to go. I think once the body fat is down it has to leave there eventually(I hope) . As for doing alot of sit ups crunches etc. those will only tone you not burn fat from there. It won't show til you lose the fat from that area. Just keep up the good work and do as I do..pray pray pray that the belly will just go away!!!!!
Good luck and hit the cardio hard.

I feel your pain!! I'm an "apple" shape -- nothing "pear" about me. And I wrote this in lalique's thread, but I'll repeat myself. I've lost all this weight before, and what I remember vividly is that I shrank in order of least fat to most fat area. In hindsight, I was probably shrinking evenly all over, but my thinnest areas didn't have much to lose. The areas of me that were already pretty thin (lower arms, lower legs) got really thin first. Then my sorta fat areas shrank (face, upper torso, thighs), and only at the very, very, very end did my tummy disappear.

Side note: Of course, I got cocky and turned back to stress eating at 166 (21 pounds from my goal and some of that was excess skin ) and gained it back. Don't ever let your guard down -- even when you've never been happier with your new skinny body, it is unbelieveably easy to let it slip out of your fingers.

I hear ya sista!

Yeah, belly fat is stubborn. I notice it on thin women as well as fat women. I think it's part of our gender make-up.

I do a lot of core work, which helps a bit. And just getting the weight off in general helps, too. My personal trainer said she had a roll around her middle, which went away when she quit eating glutens. I do notice that when I gain a pound or two, the first place it shows up is the roll around my waist.

I've never had the belly problem before, but since having two kids, I now even have a roll.

I'm hopeful that it will eventually go away, but honestly, I've had a c/s and am afraid that area is behind any sort of help - unless it's surgical.

Whew...glad I'm not alone in this little row boat! I do see smaller women have the belly issue, but goodness, I didn't realize it would be this stubborn. "Overall," I can see that it is getting smaller, but then there are days when I don't think it is at all. I know it has to be because of the measurements I take once a month and because of the clothes fitting me better now, but man...I'm sick of this blubber. I think you are right - it probably will be the last to go (along with those notorious thunder thighs)! Sigh! Oh well...thanks for letting me vent my disgust and for reminding me I'm not the only one in the world who battles the buldge.

Have a great day!

Lord do I know what you mean! Even though I have only lost 15lbs so far I thought I'd notice SOME difference. But no, nothing! I mean my clothes are a little loser and my fiance says he can see a difference but when will I see a difference?? Also, what is it with double chins?? I look in the mirror and thats all I see, it's disgusting!!
Boy am I glad I'm not the only one that feels this way!

Lisa, those double chins WILL go away! For me, the chins were the first things to go. I was so excited that I even have before and after face photos. The second photo was taken at my daughter's wedding (I actually wore make-up!), and I believe I had lost maybe 75 lbs. then. My face now is getting a bit gaunt, but the dang hips are still with me. *Sigh*

Yogurt, Specifically, Significantly Increases Fat Loss

In just 3 months, 16 obese men and women on a reduced calorie diet that included three daily portions of yogurt lost 61% more fat and 81% more abdominal fat than 18 obese subjects assigned to a diet with the same number of calories but little or no dairy products and low amounts of calcium.

Not only did those in the yogurt group lose more fat, especially around their waistlines, but they also retained more lean, muscle tissue than subjects on the yoghurt-free diet.

How yogurt promotes fat loss while preserving muscle is still a matter of debate. It may be due to the fact that calcium reduces fat cells' ability to store fat, so cells burn more, and less is produced in the liver. Or, it may be due to the branched chain amino acids present in dairy products. Regardless, this study, published in the International Journal of Obesity, indicates that adding one or two servings of yogurt to your daily diet can help you maximize loss of fat and minimize loss of muscle-the optimal outcome for any diet.
Yeah I am still fat and have plenty more to lose but i do notice when I am getting my dairy in, particularily kefir, it does really help in the tummy area!

I saw the most change when I got past the 187 pt. My stomach was 42 and 1/2 when I was at 214 and it was 41 at 187 -- now at 172 my stomach is 38. I think perhaps once you burn all the *easy* fat in other places your body starts working on your stomach and the harder areas. It will come off!

I hate my belly!!! I mean I hate it!!

I just learned reading the "YOU: on a diet" book that the fat in the belly is behind the muscle. So exercising isn't going to really get rid of the fat. You have to eat right for that to happen. You can exercise to tone the abs so that when the fat goes the belly muscles are firm and looking good. I bought a Prevention magazine focusing on abs and those exercises are hard. So, I went to the diet forum on here to see what others are doing and this link was in one of the threads. I thought it was very interesting and plan to incorporated the top four ab exercises into my workout.

I also just read about yogurt being helpful. I do eat it but not nearly enough. I plan to go research what the best brand might be. If anyone has info on it I would love to hear it.

Whew! Thanks, AnnRue! Glad to know there is hope!

And, thanks, Pita! I know you can't spot reduce, but when I posted my question initially I was just having a day where I was so frustrated over this silly thing! It takes time, but I want it off NOW!
