Has anyone looked at the new Pam Peeke book? Fit to Live?
I have it, but geez, it's driving me crazy! It's got these pop-up messages on each page (she calls the "fatoids"), which i guess is like reading on add or something, but I can't keep a train of thought. I finally resorted to reading the chapter, then cycling back and reading the fatoids and other bubble text - ugh. no thanks, not for me. Pat, interested to hear your professional view on literature for the attention deficit! lol
Hi Fran: I did pick up this book from the library last month and have since returned it. I had the same frustration with the factoids that you did. Usually I just read through the chapter and then pick up the factoids as well. I see this type of format in a lot of self-help books. Not that I read that many of them. Right now I am reading books on first impressions, and interpreting nonverbal cues. I think I'm a hopeless cause though. I pick up the books with enthusiasm begin to read the material and end up muttering, "yeah right...in bizzarro world" and go onto the next thing.
Ah, Fran, I had the same experience. It's why I can't/don't read the "For Dummies" books either. "You: On a Diet" was the same way. Grrrr. For what it's worth, I don't think that Peeke had anything new to say, just a different spin on BFL For Women, aimed a different audience?
Well, I have to issue a retraction. I kept plugging away at the book, with my reading of the factoids after I finished a chapter, and it's not half bad. this is really more about the mind set of becoming healthy - not losing weight, but removing fat, which I notice is terminology many people on this site us as well. I'm entering the workout phase and then the financial phase, and then I'll be done, except for appendices, which look interesting as well. So for any of you who still have it around, it might be worth another look.
Hi,
I actually liked the book because it also adresses mind issues like getting some more feeling of self esteem by taking control of your life.
I like that.
