Default the ~+~+~ RED ~+~+~ thread

Sorry all----I felt like rhyming.....

Okay..... so yesterday I was at Bed, Bath and Beyond and saw the Red Exercise thyngy.

My question is to everyone out there....................does anyone out there own one of these? If so, do you think it's worth it?

I tried it (because they had a floor model out). I think someone here mentioned there's a 250 lb limit. I'm a little above that, but it worked smoothly. Just was wondering if it CONTINUES to work that smoothly with lots of use.

I did about 25 reps on it and I could feel it. I never was really interested in one until I tried it.

Just was wondering if it's all it's cracked up to be. I have a 20% off coupon that I think I could use and that would make it more affordable, but even with that, we're a little (a lot?) tight with funds right now because we're going on vacation in August. Would ya'll think it's worth $80?

Would love some feedback.....anything to help tone my middle is a two thumbs up to me! It's my biggest problem area, I think :-)

Thanks in advance all :-)

I'd never seen the product before I went to the link posted by SoulBliss, so I have no opinion on that particular product. But... I know that I use a big ball (not its technical name, but that escapes me right now) to do abdominal exercises (and others as well). It's much cheaper ($10 at Wal-Mart), and it really makes my stomach muscles complain to me the next day. Of course, I'm sure you know that doing stomach exercises won't reduce the amount of fat around your middle - it just helps build muscle there. Then, of course, the muscle increases your metabolism and makes it easier to burn fat, and when you lose the fat, your abs will have that six-pack shape!

Hope someone else can give more specific information about this machine.

Laurie

It looks the same as a balance ball, which is what I think LaurieDawn was talking about. I'd go for the balance ball, which is also good for your legs because you're using them to keep you steady and your tummy to do the exercises. Then the $80 can go for fun shopping on your vaca!

Agreed--exercises don't reduce the amount of fat, but every time I start doing a lot of crunches, I start losing inches around there. Only I have a really bad back (broke it awhile back) and so the crunches are hard for me to do---I have an exercise ball, but I noticed I got a lot more "burn" when doing it on the Red exerciser without the pain in my lower back.

My birthday is in a couple months.... I may ask for it for that....maybe .....

No one out there has one????????????????????????????

Trying not to whine :-)

I don't have one. But I did want to mention that online they sell one that is rated up to 300 lbs.

And, not to be motherly, but with your bad back please remember that you need to add back exercises in whenever you do ab exercises in order not to injure your back.

I have one of those twistie things that you put on the floor and stand on and twist...

anyway...I guess I could put it on a flat chair or bench and sit on it and it would be pretty much the same thing as the red exerciser?

I dunno...seems like it tho....

it was 15 or 20 bucks....

I have a Coremaster....someone from WW suggested it to me...she used hers almost daily...AND she had lost about 200 lbs (not just from that of course!) anyway...I love it....you can do your abs and a bunch of other things.....all while watching TV!!!

normally I wouldn't get a "uni-tasker"...but this one is good...you can use it as an incline bench to do arms etc...I really like it...and it doesn't take up space....

Jessica:
thanks for your motherly advice. I have oodles of back exercises I do at my physical therapists and at home that she has me doing. It's terrific advice. I'll actually talk to her this next week about crunches and see if she has some suggestions

iminhere:

Mmmmm, intriguing! What's your twisty thing called? I'll have to check out the Coremaster. I have a Total Gym--is it anything like that? But I haven't used it much since it crushed my hand and left me with 7 broken bones. Call me gunshy......

So I guess the consensus is that no one out there has one of these red exercise contraptions. Sigh!

I don't know what the twisty thing is called...it's a disc that you put i on the floor and stand on it and twist.....I ordered it at Drugstore.com in the diet exercise section....they are cheap...

the coremaster is sort of a chair that you sit in and do crunches and other ab exercises...you can also use it as a seat for hand weights etc...it comes with some of those stretchy gizmos (please excuse the "technical jargon")that you use for resistance exercise....

Hm. Never seen that before. I dunno how well it would work.

I have/use an ab-lounge.

I would think that it would work better then the stability ball because it offers resistance. The only thing resisting you on the ball is your body, but the Red thing actually resists against you twisting. I don't know if its adjustable or not. So it may eventually stop working as good. Just a thought!
