10 Miles and 100 Pounds!

  • I have two milestones to tell you about today, and I'm so happy and freaked out about them I can't even stand it!

I was supposed to run 9 miles this morning (according to my 1/2 marathon training schedule) and I didn't think I could make it. I was feeling a bit queasy and my legs were really sore from running all week and all those squats and lunges at bodysculpting class the other night. But somewhere around the 6th mile, I got this idea that I should try for 10 miles instead of 9. And I did it! (Don't ask me how slow I was, or how much pain I'm feeling right now!) I ran 10 miles without stopping or walking. I remember reading about someone else doing that for the first time and thinking I would NEVER be able to.

I got on the scale when I got back, after sweating buckets, and I weighed 174. It's not "official" because it's not weigh-in day and I'll be replacing all that sweat I lost with water throughout the day so the scale will look different tomorrow, but still...I SAW it. Even if it was fleeting. For a moment, I had over a 100-pound loss. That's good enough for me to say I hit two milestones in one day!!

I've become a new person, really. A person who's struggling to get through a nine-mile run and thinks "Hey, how about another mile?"

I couldn't have hit EITHER of those milestones without the support I've received here at 3FC. I can't even begin to tell you how much I love all of you for what you've given me.
  • Congrats Lisa!! 10 miles is CRAZY, I'm definitely impressed!! AND you see 174, could the day get any better?! Nicely done!!

  • 10 miles! That's amazing. I've just begun to interval running in my walking routine and my goal right now is one mile without stopping. 10 miles seems like such a huge accomplishment. Great job!

My weight loss goal is 145, but secretly, 172 on the scale will make me jump for joy. That's what I weighed when I got married 20 years ago, and that will really be a great day for me. 174 is amazing!
  • Awesome!!! I wanted to tell you that you are an inspiration to me because, although I want to lose weight, my focus is to get to where I can run. I ran up until my Junior year of college and haven't since then. And... weight came on easy. So, running is a big time goal for me. Thanks for sharing your story!

Oh... and the weight loss is a great thing too!

Lisa - You are such an inspiration! What amazing milestones both of those things are! Still, my favorite part of your post was the part I quoted above. Not to steal your thunder, but when I was walking last night, I detoured three times just so I could walk up a few extra steep hills. Certainly not on the level of what you did, but I can feel the change you describe taking place in me as well. I've become addicted to the challenge! Thanks for being my inspiration on this running thing. I so look forward to following the path that you've blazed in running, weight loss, and - while I'm still working on those - you'll be demonstrating maintenance for me. THANK YOU!

I can only imagine what this new person will accomplish in all parts of your life!
  • What an accomplishment, Congratulations!!!

  • That is so amazing! I can't even imagine running one mile, let alone 10! Your success makes me went to go take a walk, lol! Congrats on both of those, that is very awesome.
  • Congratulations! And, thanks for letting us share in your journey. It has been so inspiring and motivating.
  • You go girl!!! Congratulations on an incredible accomplishment
  • Lisa, how great for you! I hope that someday I can say "I know exactly how you feel!" but until then may I just say "WOW!" You've done an amazing thing and I'm VERY excited for you!
  • Thats fantastic news!

I'm GOING to do a 1/2 marathon in december, even if it kills me. How long have you been training and any tips for a newbie to the running world?
    Congrats, again!

  • Way to go 10 miles and 100lbs that is just amazing!!!!!
