Default It's the WEEKEND!!!!

Slow down, you movin' too fast
You gotta make the moment last
Just kickin' down the cobblestones
Lookin' for fun and
Feelin' groovy____________

I'm feelin' groovy along with Paul Simon and now I have an ear worm for the day. Maybe I've passed it on!

Glorious morning here! The Girls and I have done the coffee on the deck ritual. They informed me that today is going to be hot and humid and I'd better get out their wading pool for later.

First on the agenda is to water planters at the Fair Ground and then set up the soaker hoses in my own garden. Everything is looking wonderful but we sure need a gentle gardeners rain for a while. :rainy:

Cousin Ian (aka He Who Never Phones Ahead) will probably show up for a meal this weekend but I'm ready with salad stuff, a roasted chicken and rum cake in the freezer. I also need to do the Church bulletin and am praying my ink cartridge lasts. Otherwise I'll need to do a quick dash to town. Hmmm, maybe I'll print it in coloured ink for a change.

What's your groove this fine Saturday morning?

You have an ear worm? An ear worm sounds painful, and yet your mood is jovial. Oh dear. I'm afraid I'm lost on this one. At least it's just for the day...

Our Saturday was lovely! I ran the two miles to the gym this morning and then attended my third ever yoga class and had a glorious time! It's an hour and a half class, and the time just flies by. Then Tom brought the kids down because he and Connor have a martial arts class (in the same room, actually) from noon until two. I took the girls shopping for some random things and then we went back to the gym to watch the boys in their class. Both of them had a really productive day, and I was so proud of how Connor did. He is the only child in the class, one five year old among eight strapping military men, and he held his own today. No whining, no complaining, and he had all of his forms memorized and was doing them right along with the rest of the class. It was a good day! After class, we all went to the pool until Kadyn had a meltdown at a quarter to five (we had skipped her nap to go to the pool), and then we returned home and I made omelets for dinner. They were quite delicious, if I do say so myself! Now the kids are in bed and I think we might catch up on some back episodes of Grey's Anatomy or something else we can find on the computer as I don't feel like watching Korean TV tonight. (There are some hilarious game shows, though, and there are three channels that show golf all the time, and there is a channel or two for teaching math and one for teaching what we think is Chinese. Then there's this one that has a game like Othello with black and white tiles but it's not and we can't figure out what the point of the game is. Then there are random Korean soap operas and other shows. But tonight I think I shall watch TV that I can understand all of the words to!)

Tomorrow is Fathers' Day! So the kids and I will make Tom breakfast and then go to church, with a stop at the commissary on the way home to pick up Monday's food since the store is closed every Monday. Tom wants teryaki for lunch so he's going to pick up some take-out and the kids and I are going to eat the leftovers that are somehow multiplying in my refrigerator! I'm making stuffed zucchini for dinner - one of Tom's favorites, and a South Beach recipe to boot! - and then we'll probably just have a relaxing day at home.

Happy Saturday, all!

Looks like it is going to be a nice quiet weekend here. So far it looks like I only have an hour or so of work this morning for just one client! Then I want to get out in the front garden and deadhead roses before it gets too hot. My Mother in Law is coming to visit in a couple of weeks and I want them all to be blooming for her.

My youngest son (the one who had the knee surgury) went with his girlfriend to her parent's house for the weekend..his first outing. Guess he can prop up his leg there just as well as here. I was worried about the long ride in the car, but he did ok.

My daughter is coming in to spend the night after she gets off of work in New Orleans and we are going to Baton Rouge tomorrow to do a little shopping, then back here to fix a feast for my husband for Father's Day. He loves just plain chocolate cake, so I guess I'll just have to be tempted to lick the mixer beaters and spoon! He works on Sundays, so we don't have Sunday dinner till 5:00. I saw a recipe on Emerill last night that looked like it could be pretty easily adapted to SB with a few ingredient changes, so that's what we are having.

An "ear worm" is one of those tunes you just can't get out of your head. It helps to pass it on!

Ah. That makes sense. Well, didn't Peter, Paul, and Mary since "Pass It On" (there's another Paul for you)?!

It only takes a spark,
To get a fire goin',
And soon all those around,
Can warm up in its glowin'...

Good Morning Ladies (any gentlemen around here - I don't see any)

Our Saturday is starting out slow, sunny, and beautiful. I think it's supposed to turn hot this weekend.
Today I mark the end of my first week on Phase II - one more pound down. I'm really going to focus on staying on plan and behaving today. I have to work on my attitude also, and just accepting that I'm in it for the long run, and this isn't going to happen overnight. I've got lots of work around the house this weekend. We've got company coming to stay in July and I'm looking around and starting to see all the things I'd like to get done around here before then! Also, I'll be away all next week, and I like to make sure DH is set for the week with groceries, laundry done, etc. That's me, not him, he's quite capable, I just have a hard time letting things go while I'm gone!
We'll probably hit the pool later, and I'll make sure I swim some laps or get in a walk. My walking buddy hasn't been into it this week, and I let that be an excuse for me not to walk either. I think I'll take some chicken breasts out of the freezer for the grill tonight.
Haven't thought too much about Father's Day yet. We don't generally get too worked up for the Hallmark holidays. I've got some filet mignon in the freezer and some nice big shrimp, so maybe I'll do a surf n' turf for DH.

Feelin GaROOOVY here in NC!

Schmoodle: "Hallmark Holidays" how true~ on another pound!

Femme: sounds like a lovely weekend planned..Glad DS is healing up nicely!

Kara: What a fun day you had! Keep it up!!!

Ruth: A new term "Ear worms" I'm going to add it to the others I learned from you..like "frassin" and "niggles"

My poor Darby (my furbaby) hasn't been feeling well for about a week.. I've been back and forth to the vet... Last night she threw up and was running about and let out Wails...not whimpering or welping... I never heard such a sound.. I was so scared... I called the emergency number... and no call back... that made me mad... so I brought her in first thing this morning... Dr wanted to do blood work,,, and I asked that they take x-rays...Lo and Behold... My Darbydoo has a fish hook caught in her stomach! Our guess is that I started taking them to Bass Lake, they have a walking trail around the lake, and of course much fishing... she must have gotten some bait or a fish and swallowed it whole in order for it to end up in her tummy.....so she is at the hospital, she'll have surgery this afternoon...my poor baby!

Good evening! ( It's Saturday night this side of the globe).
I'm in transition, ready to jump back into SBD,any day now. I figured I'd jump right in and say hello. Get myself in the habit of posting as I will need all the support I can get from you guys!

It was a glorious sunny day here in rural India. Monsoon rains did not come today, so it was not so muddy, which inspired me to go for a nice walk.

Been re-reading the SBD, getting some ideas for meals, and close to setting my start date....
Following SBD for me (I did it for 6 months in 2004) in the past was really a challenge. NO SBD ready made foods.... I would drive to Pune(3 hours 1 way) to get my LF/FF cheese and milk. I can't just go out and buy chicken breast meat,I can only purchase the whole chicken or for that matter, canned beans are unheard of, so need to soak and pressure cook, no fast readymade options. Though SF Jello is available in Pune now! woo-hoo!...(it's $2.50 a box, so will be the rare treat) I'm begining to get reved up... Hope you all don't mind my posting even though I have not officially gotten to the sand yet...Getting closer though! taking my shoes off in preparation for reaching the beach!
Have a great weekend all!

Hi Indigal, and welcome to the beach. The information and support on this forum has been so helpful to me in getting started on SBD. It's really a learning process and I've got so much to learn, it's great to have access to folks that have been through it all before and their words of wisdom and support. I'm sure you'll find it helpful too.

Canned beans are great and so convenient, but I usually try to do mine in my pressure cooker too, and freeze extras for later. SF Jello, well, I can only say - "yuck!" Not a big fan of the Jello to begin with. Actually, I think you're better off if you can stay away from all that artificial sweetener, and just adjust your tastebuds to less sweet. I have been using it sparingly to help fight the sweet tooth at the beginning, but I hope I can stop using it soon. Also, I think it gives me digestive problems!

I think it's really fun that people are posting here from all over the globe! I'm looking forward to sharing recipes and hearing about your success!

Kitty! Glad you made it over to chat! You and I should keep the thread up and running round the clock as our hours are opposite those in North America! I say you're doing an excellent job preparing. It's important to be in the right frame of mind and have all your ducks in a row. THEN you can jump into the deep end!

Hope your preparations for your trip go well, Schmoodle! I'm sure everyone will survive while you're gone. On the rare occasions I leave Tom at home alone with the kids and come home to piles of dishes in the sink and beds aruffled and laundry hanging out of the washer, he always counters my glare with a, "Well, the kids are alive, aren't they?" Puts things in perspective. Although it's still twice as much work to get the place back to normal again!!!

Heal fast, Darby! Hope your surgery goes well and you're back home with your people again soon!

Have a great day beach bums! I'm off to bed!

Hi all! Sorry I missed Friday - I decided to sleep in so had to rush to work and then had multiple errands to run in the evening. As soon as I got home the dh and I headed right back out to dinner. Now that I'm phase 2, I'm allowing myself the occasional weekend drinks so I had 1 drink w/ dinner, came home and went straight to bed!

So saying its a sunny day here just doesn't quite do it justice. How about is another scalding day? Scorching day? They're saying its going to be around 108. Gotta love it! Time to break out the tank tops (I love that I can wear tank tops!)

Kara - in follow up from Thursday's thread:
Quote:
Sary, I'm so jealous of your dance class! That sounds like an absolute blast! How long have you been taking lessons?
That was only our 2nd class. Went much better than the first. The dh has actually taken some dance lessons before so he's a bit better than me but that also makes it easier for me to follow so by the end of the class, we were feeling like we'd made some progress. Plus its great exercise!

Indigal - let us know about any yummy SB indian recipes you come up with! I loooove indian food and have a few things I've adapted accordingly but always looking for more.

Schatzi - I hope poor Darby's okay! Its so heartbreaking when the furbabies are in pain. Let us know how she is.

Today I have a baby shower to attend and then a friend and I are going out 'on the town'. I'm going to volunteer to drive so I have an excuse not to drink that much. I've got to go wrap presents now - all of you with children - bless your darling hearts! Part of the present I bought was a bag of diapers. I couldn't believe the cost! Doing the math - it gets darned expensive fast! Good incentive to go for the cloth ones...

And I'm down another .5 pound! Woo hoo! 1 more pound and that will be the lowest I've been since returning from the honeymoon a year ago. Then I have to tackle getting below the wedding weight....

Have a great weekend all!!

I'm feeling a bit lonely today because my boyfriend is with his friends having a very manly cooking competition. :P They're all would-be gourmet chefs and get together once every few months with a themed cookoff and this one's aptly a bbq. My boyfriend doesn't know what anyone else is making, but he made his own jerk sausages and is grilling pineapples, watermelon, and mangos in a brown sugar and spice rub. Sadly, since I can't eat any of it (and my boyfriend cannot get the concept of healthy eating through his head- "what, you can't eat pineapples drenched in brown sugar? BUT IT'S FRUIT!" haha), I opted out of going. Might be for good though- I've only met one person of his core group of friends and they're all super wary of me because I'm much younger.

So instead, I've busied myself exploring the neighborhood a bit more. Which is fun... plus I found some fresh salmon on sale and had a very yummy lunch. Now I have NO idea how I lived without a George Forman grill for so long!

No real plans for the rest of the weekend... I'm still trying to search out friends who stayed in the area for the summer but most who are taking summer classes or internships aren't coming back until July. At least my internship takes up a lot of time (and is AMAZING!) and I start Portuguese in a week!

Sary, have fun at your shower! GREAT idea buying diapers! I always appreciated them as a gift.

Nessa, good for you getting back on track so quickly. I think without the occasional straying we wouldn't be as motivated to stay on plan. I don't know if that makes any sense, but I think I'm realizing it's all about making choices that are right for you at the time, and knowing why you're making those choices.

Char, hope your boy wins the competition! That sounds like a fun idea! I love the Food Network, and am sad that we don't get it here because I hear they just started another Food Network Star season. Plus Alton and Rachel Ray and Giada...miss them. I'll have to see if I can look some of the shows up on line! Glad you got to go exploring. That's always fun!

Got on here to see what South Beach friendly breakfast Tom would like for Fathers' Day so I'd better get to it so we're not late for church. Have a great rest of your weekend, everyone!
