Hi everyone,
I am a 61 year old grandma, who lives in Lafayette, Louisiana.
I am not much of a dieter, but have tried 2 types of weight loss programs.
The first one was called First Place and we met at church one day a week. It is a 13 week session, that you join and set a goal weight loss. I met my goal and was happy with the program, except for the cost. The initial cost was approximately 75.00 with future sessions at around 35.00. I really could not afford that at the time. I believe that it would actually be a program people would have long term success with if they could continue it for a few sessions until the new eating habits are ingrained.
The second program was a weight loss study that the state of Louisiana sponsored for state employees. I was on a strictly liquid diet for 16 weeks, with a gradual adding of meals as the study went on. The study included using prescribed drugs. I did lose 50 or so pounds, but also became extremely irregular and began to lose my hair. I also began to experience high blood pressure, etc. I did not feel safe taking the drugs and with the hair loss etc. decided it was not for me. I regained the weight I lost plus some, sorry to say.
So, here I am at 272 pounds and short of breath when I walk and having to use a CPAP machine for my sleep apnea. I have absolutely no will power and attribute most of my weight gain to fast food. I don't sit around eating all the time, but I do love food with high calories and here in Louisiana, food is the top attraction.
I hope to hear from others of my age, etc. I hope to use this site as an aid to getting at least enough weight off to be able to sleep without that contraption on my face and to be able to walk around parks and zoos with my grandchildren.
My name is Gail and I am a big coffee drinker.
