This group is for those dealing with the challenges of having a significant amount of weight to lose and being fit which becomes harder after age 40. If you're an old or new friend and not over 40 and feel this is the place to post, jump right in.
I'm headed to bed but thought I would start a new thread and a new song. See you all later..................
Jingle Bell Rock Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock
Jingle bells swing and jingle bells ring
Snowing and blowing up bushels of fun
Now the jingle hop has begun.
Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock
Jingle bells chime in jingle bell time
Dancing and prancing in Jingle Bell Square
In the frosty air.
What a bright time, it's the right time
To rock the night away
Jingle bell time is a swell time
To go gliding in a one-horse sleigh
Giddy-up jingle horse, pick up your feet
Jingle around the clock
Mix and a-mingle in the jingling feet
That's the jingle bell,
That's the jingle bell,
That's the jingle bell rock.
MERRY CHRISTMAS LADIES!!!! It's been a veeeeeery long time since I've been in here. I was one of the NIGHT OWLS. We started on here about 11 years ago. Anyway, as soon as I logged into 3fc site today I saw this. Well, I'm 48 and a little over 200 lbs. I'm 5'6" and really starting to feel the effects of my weight. I've done WW and a couple of other diets but am getting the Dr. Oz book and trying that.
So, I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and I'm going to try and "keep up" on here so as to stick to my new healthy life.
Its almost Christmas Eve! Today has been a semi-productive day.
I got up and finally got to the Christmas cards. DH made a trip to town to mail them. They won't arrive before Christmas but at least they are in the mail!
The next task was to wrap all the presents. I had a big stack of boxes where I had ordered everything online. Bet the mailman was glad when I was finished ordering. So everything is wrapped and under the tree.
This afternoon I drove over to one of the nearby small towns to see a couple that was mom & dad's good friends going way back to when I was in grade school. He had told mom that he would come see me when we got moved down here. I've been meaning to go see them but just didn't have time (or make it between work, getting settling in here, and helping mom). I decided I had to get that done. I didn't remember that he was so fond of me as a kid. What I do remember is that he always made comments about my weight. I've only seen them twice in the last 20 odd years. And he made comments then. Guess what, it only took him 20 minutes but he made a comment about if my horse has a sway back from me riding her. He thinks he is being funny. Despite that, it was a wonderful visit. He was so excited to see me and we had a good talk. He's 85 and she's about in that range so I have to keep in contact before his health gets even worse. I had to tear myself away after 2-1/2 hours.
Bear is doing fairly well. The wound draining is a challenge to deal with. We've had to resort to putting one of DH's t-shirts on him and a muzzle to keep him from licking so much. He's not too pleased with the muzzle. However, he quit turning his face away from me and is back to giving mom a kiss so I've quit bawling. I've been doing some research on dogcarts and slings to see what we can devise to help him be outside in the spring. That helped me mentally too.
Tonight I just finished 45 minutes on the stationary bike. I have Alias Season 2 and watched one episode while on the bike. Good way to make it through 45 minutes. Wish food had been better but at least it hasn't been a pigout of holiday food - because we ain't got none!
Our family gathering was today and I didn't go down. I had asked my sister to call us when everyone was there for dinner. She didn't call until 5 pm and I was gone. She said she'd call back in 30 minutes and now its 3 hours later. Thanks sis, I wanted to be able to talk to the family while they were having the family gathering. DB will be here in 30 minutes to leave the food they sent up. He didn't sound like it he had too great of a time. It becomes more of a family gathering of sis's kids and stepkids and their whole gang and we're just on the side. That's why I didn't miss being down there.
PJ - Welcome back. I believe you're before my time so look forward to getting to know you.
Lilion - for getting on the I.M. I loved the picture of your doggies in front of the tree. They have grown so much! Adorable.
Judy - I loved your post about the coffee. I am going to have to remember that and do that sometime. I'm so thrilled about Barbaro - that broke my heart when I saw that happen.
Joe Anne - Great to see you checking in.
Thin - I love that Pains of Christmas song. It is too funny. I have gotten into entertaining since moving down here. We've fed more people than people have fed us! Sure helps me to keep the house clean.
to everyone. About time for DB to arrive. I hope that everyone is having a very Merry Christmas weekend!
This was always one of my favorite Christmas songs.
Said the night wind to the little lamb,
"Do you see what I see?
Way up in the sky, little lamb,
Do you see what I see?
A star, a star, dancing in the night
With a tail as big as a kite,
With a tail as big as a kite."
Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy,
"Do you hear what I hear?
Ringing through the sky, shepherd boy,
Do you hear what I hear?
A song, a song high above the trees
With a voice as big as the the sea,
With a voice as big as the the sea."
Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king,
"Do you know what I know?
In your palace warm, mighty king,
Do you know what I know?
A Child, a Child shivers in the cold--
Let us bring him silver and gold,
Let us bring him silver and gold."
Said the king to the people everywhere,
"Listen to what I say!
Pray for peace, people, everywhere,
Listen to what I say!
The Child, the Child sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light,
He will bring us goodness and light."
We did the in-laws yesterday and it was a nice time. Today we are doing presents at home. I'm letting DH sleep in for now, but it's about time to get him up. My friend got her daughter a car stereo and it is being installed at noon, but she has to work, so we're taking it in for her and then coming home and doing the Christmas thing. I'm doing the turkey and trimmings for dinner. Just like Christmas, but a day early.
I was shocked to get up this morning and see that I have more gifts under the tree than DS does! I don't know what on earth my DH got me, but he got me a lot! We set limits and I hit it with just about one gift so he's got very little under the tree. I think I understand the overdraft we've got now. I feel a bit bad because I know DS isn't getting the top four things on his list...but he made the list knowing that we don't feel an 11 year old needs pellet guns and cell phones, so that's his own fault. Still, it's a shame when I child is dissapointed at Christmas. We did tell him he wasn't getting those things. Have done for a month now, but I don't think he truely believes us. Well, we'll see.
Here's my favorite Christmas song...at least part of it!
O Holy Night
The stars are brightly shining.
It is the night of the dear saviours birth.
Long lay the world
in sin and error pining,
'til he appeared and the soul felt it's worth.
Terri: to Bear. I hope he (and you) are recovining from this trauma.
Thin: Sending you a PM.
May all of you have a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS! God bless you and your familes!
Hi all! Honey and I wrapped together last night and then got up this morning and had breakfast with friends.
I told him I figured the stores would be extra jammed yesterday and today since it was a weekend and everyone was off work. Usually folks have to work some even on Christmas Eve. Bottom line: I sent HIM to the store today! I just needed some sausage for the brunch casserole for tomorrow and some egg nog, light, of course.
I'm doing dinner here tonight for my mom and the boys. We got a prime rib that I will roast. Tomorrow morning they all come back for brunch and to open gifts. Then in the afternoon we truck to the IL's for dinner and gifts after. Full Day!!!
This is one of my favorite carols. Honey and I met in high school choir and I always loved the harmonies of this one when we sang it.
Carol of the Bells Hark! how the bells
Sweet silver bells
All seem to say,
"Throw cares away."
Christmas is here
Bringing good cheer
To young and old
Meek and the bold
Ding, dong, ding, dong
That is their song
With joyful ring
All caroling
One seems to hear
Words of good cheer
From ev'rywhere
Filling the air
Oh how they pound,
Raising the sound,
O'er hill and dale,
Telling their tale,
Gaily they ring
While people sing
Songs of good cheer
Christmas is here
Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas
Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas
On, on they send
On without end
Their joyful tone
To ev'ry home
We've been to church and then made a trip to the grocery store for tomorrow dinner. We got home to find the message that neither of DH's son's will be here until 5 pm tomorrow. I'd rather they come at 1 and leave by 5 so we can relax in the evening. We're doing really easy food for tomorrow - ham sandwiches, potato salad and baked beans. And Mrs. Smiths pies. Since its DH's family, I have no guilt about doing a no frills dinner.
Tonight, we're doing a prime rib roast. A bit much for the two of us but its DH's splurge for the holiday.
I'll have to try some exercise later. But first I think I'll try a nap on the couch.
Have fun with all the family gatherings and last minute shopping/wrapping frenzy!
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Ev'rywhere you go;
Take a look in the five-and-ten, glistening once again
With candy canes and silver lanes aglow.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas,
Toys in ev'ry store,
But the prettiest sight to see is the holly that will be
On your own front door.
A pair of hopalong boots and a pistol that shoots
Is the wish of Barney and Ben;
Dolls that will talk and will go for a walk
Is the hope of Janice and Jen;
And Mom and Dad can hardly wait for school to start again.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Ev'rywhere you go;
There's a tree in the Grand Hotel, one in the park as well,
The sturdy kind that doesn't mind the snow.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas;
Soon the bells will start,
And the thing that will make them ring is the carol that you sing
Right within your heart.

Well for basics purposes our Christmas is over. We had our kids and Alvin's BIL and nepwew's family this afternoon for linch/dinner? anyway a meal about 3:00, and we opend gifts before. Needless to say Alvinls family is having a hard time of it this year. We did a rather low keyed meal without even sitting around the dinning table. We all ate in the den. Alvin did the cooking and did a grat job of it, We had ham, brocolli casserole, a greenbean and roasted potato salad , a pasta salad with pepper jack chees and corn and a great fruit salad. And yes Terri, we had Mr Smiths pies too.
Tomorrow we will go to my brothers house around noon for a "potluck and will have our "white elephant" Christmas.
Joy to the World!! the Lord has come
Let earth receive it's King
Let every heart rejoice and sing
And hHeaven and nature sing and heaven and Nature sign
And Heaven, and HEAVEN and NNNNAAAATTTUUUURRREEEE SING!!!
I hope you all are having a merry and bright Christmas. My family did the biggest part of Christmas today. DH was well pleased with his gift and DS is pretty okay with his. Silly kid didn't charge the mp3 player we got him and so hasn't been able to put any songs on it. We lifted his grounding for a couple hours so he could play his Rollercoaster Tycoon game. We had the whole big dinner, turkey and stuffing and etc. Ate too much, as always when there is a roast turkey involved. DH got me darn near everything on my list. Unfortunately, I'm sure the most expensive thing he got me is the one that I need to return. It's an absolutely beautiful leather breifcase. If I were a "going to court" lawyer it would be perfect. As it is, I really need to have something big enough to put my yoga clothes and lunch in. Speaking of which, I got both Yoga For the Rest Of Us and Just My Size Yoga DVD's! So no more excuses for me not to be doing my yoga anymore.
Since no one finished my song, I'm doing the whole thing! My favorite!
O Holy Night
The stars are brightly shining.
It is the night of the dear saviours birth.
Long lay the world
in sin and error pining,
'til he appeared and the soul felt it's worth.
A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices,
for yonder breaks a clear and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees
Oh Hear the angels voices
Oh night devine
Oh night, when Christ was born.
Oh night devine
Oh night, O night devine!
Merry Christmas! Have a wonderful day. It is raining like crazy here right now, and why am I up you might ask. My Dh slept most of yesterday and is now wide awake and wanted company. Anyway, I hope all of you are snug in your beds. Ta! Ruth
