  • Good Sunday morning! I hope everyone got lots of good rest last night.

I'm eating my cereal and trying to decide whether to go plant flowers now before it gets too hot, or just sit and veg a while. I'm not feeling all that well and so for now, the veg option is winning. Maybe in an hour or two I can get out there. Problem is, I have to clear out some weeds and dig up the winter pansies before I can plant the new stuff.

I'll check back in a while to see if anyone's here yet.
  • Good Morning Chicks! I just got up and, as usual, I'm sitting here with my first cup of coffee of the day. I love my coffee but generally only drink it first thing in the morning. Most of the day I just drink my darned water.

I had a very nice time at the party last night. I'm sure Jim would rather have been at home since he knew NO ONE but Cindy and Doug and their kids. I at least knew the Moms and Dads and some of the Aunts. And, of course, I know all of my GF's brothers. Some of these people I haven't seen in over 25 years! Josh was very gracious and gave a little speech after he opened his presents. It was short but warm and very heartfelt. I was proud of him. We laughed alot and I was made to feel very old. There was a young man there.....looking very cool....sunglasses, goatee....probably in his late, late 20's or early 30's. Cindy says to me, laughing, that I know him. No I don't, I say! Yes you do.....he was the ring bearer at our wedding. Dear Lord, that was a shock! Of course, I knew he'd be grown up but it she was dramatic to see him at 5 and then not again until 30! Whoa boy I felt old. We had a great laugh about that. As a matter of fact, we had alot of laughs. It felt good. We'll be seeing all of these same people again at the end of the month for the 25th anniversary party.

My eating was ok. I had some chicken, beef on a roll, some jello mold, and some veggies. I have NEVER taken the veggies out of a catering table so I think that alone should make me lose weight. The problem is that when we got home we were starving. I made some multigrain toast for myself and made Jim eggs and toast. It was just the best I could be.

    Now for the shower today!

I'm off to see how far behind I am.
  • Kathy, I vote that you veg but I know you'll plant. Winter pansies is something we have no idea about here!
  • Congrats to the Mavericks!

Saundra, I'll have to look for some garlic lemon marinade. I have a recipe that's pretty easy but I like to try new stuff too.

Melissa, did you have fun at the concert?

I have to go get ready for the shower now. I'm wearing bright green striped top with pink butterflies embroidered on it with matching plain light green capretties (as my Great Niece calls them!). Just because I'm big doesn't mean I have to dress in black all the time. Yesterday I wore my red battenburg lace top with white capretties and sandals. I no longer care what other people think. Is that what 50 does for a girl?!
  • Kathy, sounds like you had fun yesterday. I love getting new every day things, do you have pictures of the dishes that you're thinking about? It's good to veg for a while. Lord knows, you've earned it. We have a little sun right now, but looks like it's going to be short lived. I'll have to find out the name of the flowers that I planted, but they really took well and everything looks good.

Vickie, so glad that you had fun. I can imagine how weird it would be to meet someone 25 years later. I understand how you feel about aging, but we are now older and hopefully wiser. Have fun at the shower today.

Kids took Natan to Montreal yesterday and wound up in pouring rain. They were suppose to attend an outdoor Japanese festival, but instead went to Schwartz's Deli and had a late lunch. As we were finishing dinner, got a surprise visit from them with a fresh rye bread and a pound of smoked meat. Bernie was thrilled and wound up eating one and a half sandwiches for dessert. I insisted that they take the leftovers home, cause enough is enough. Today, they're going out on their own and bringing Natan here for a few hours. Bernie and I are going to a special restaurant tonight, Urban Pear, so looking forward to it.

Better hit the shower before my gang shows up,
  • Hi everyone! I stopped by to see how things were going with all of you. I am really exhausted today for some reason, so I'm going to go take a (hopefully) short nap. There is so much to do, but I'm pretty darn useless right now.

Vickie, I'm glad that you had a good time at the party, and that you wore a cute outfit and felt good about yourself.
  • I'm back from yet another trip to the store! That's like 5 trips in the last two days @ $50-60 each time -- what on earth am I doing wrong? We needed dog food but I ended up getting milk and yogurt and cantaloupe, and some donuts for the kids. I'm determined not to go back for a while, no matter if we're starving or not.

Judd's about to leave to go play golf, so I'm going to wait a while before planting. I did my other chores like dishes and laundry already this morning so at least it hasn't been a complete waste of time.

I think there's more to talk about but I'm tired now, so I'll be back in a little while. Melissa, I hope you're getting some rest now too. Have fun at the shower, Vickie.

The restaurant tonight sounds interesting, Saundra. I have moss rose and begonias to plant in the flowerbeds as soon as the pansies come out.
  • Hey there. Kathy, I hope that you are getting some rest. I ended up sleeping about an hour more than I wanted, then came out to the LR to find DH asleep too. So now he's napping. There are so many things that I could be doing that I'm not sure where to start. Right now I'm thinking about a menu for the week. Especially lunches for DH. He can be kind of picky. But if I want him to do this with me then I need to at least get him started.
  • That's a good idea. I've made a list of things I need to do this week -- well, actually extra things in addition to the regular cooking and cleaning. It's a pretty long list so we'll see how that goes. I hope Aaron has a good first week.
  • Well I am quite proud of myself. I have chopped and bagged up individual portions of zucchini, squash, and onion for dinners this week. I also went ahead and washed the red potatoes I got at farmer's market yesterday, so they're ready to be cut and boiled. I'm trying to decide what to cook tonight, I'm thinking of doing several different things in order to have LOs for the week.
I've been searching through our recipe board and there are so many recipes it is hard to keep track of them all. There are so many that I have forgotten about many of them, even though I have several printed out.
Kathy did we ever give any more thought to sorting the recipes by main ingredient (chicken, fish, etc.)? If there's any way I could help I would. It would make things a lot easier, but it might be more work than it's worth!?

I think I'm going to make some taco soup tonight for lunches this week. DH is not a big soup eater but he likes thick, homemade-type soups. I'm also thinking about popping a bunch of chicken with ff italian in the crockpot for lunches. Yumm...that is one of the best ways to eat chicken, IMO.

I need to get up and do something! Although I'm being productive, I'm feeling quite lazy. We're going to work in the yard later this evening when it cools off. Right now I need to get busy in this house! Maybe even exercise??
  • Vicki glad to hear that you go for the nice colours. I am going to have to buy some nice light shades this summer. I tend to go for the dark colours all the time. I have heaps of winter clothes but very little nice summer duds. I guess I best go out and find some nice colours in tops and pants.

Kathy did you hear that Gatorade is suppose to be good for a headache? My sil takes it when he gets one.
I have never heard of winter pansies either.

Saundra it rained here all day yesterday. I am sorry to hear it rained in Ottawa as our ds was having two couples come to look at the house.
So how was the Urban Pear , sounds different.

Melissa, that rest sure did you a world of good. You have been a busy bee.

Waving to the rest of you, must get some work done, I have been out all day. We went to the show last night with friends and were late getting to bed. I slept in and never got to Church.

  • Afternoon chickies,,,thougth I would check in and tell you about my evening last night.....no it was not fun!! I was sound asleep at 430 am and was woken up by someone pounding on my front door. Now dh is working out of town so Im by myself with my furbabies. I thought I was dreaming.......till I heard it again. So I crept to my bathroom window and peeked out. There was some lady walking down my sidewalk and heading into my backyard??? What the heck??? anyways she walked in front of the house ,,to the sides,,, crossed the street. Got back into her van , phoned someone on her cell phone and drove away! I was pretty freaked...I turned my light on and read till I fell back to sleep hours later.......of course my dog slept thru all of this.(and he would have gone nuts believe me) and my kitty was standing guard at the top of the stairs. Good kitty!! haha Im thinking it was someone looking for their kid at a party or something..cuz we live in a pretty small town with not much crime here......but it was scary all the same. Told all my neighbours to be on the lookout just in case... now Im going to go have a nap..Im pooped.

  • P.a. That would be nerve racking for sure. I would have been wide awake until morning for sure. Glad to hear all was ok.

  • just a quick note to let ya'll know we're home. i'm over on page 3 reading trying to catch up.

we had a great time--didn't bow fish. curtis did a little traditional fishing off the bank. i stayed near the trailer reading and watching wildlife. we were in a beautiful (brand new!) park on a shallow cove. it was well landscaped, paved, and quiet. our picture window faced the lake. we watched mama geese/goslings taking their daily swims. also we had pelicans, seagulls, (yes-pelicans and sea gulls in central montana!), on the water along with large fish jumping. there were 5 deer who came down in the evenings to browse along the shore. quite a picture for sure.

okay, i'm heading back to page 3 to read after i tell you we also saw twin antelope fawns with their doe. can you tell i'm into nature? (saw several bald eagle nests with eagles in them.)

    now back to page 3.
  • i'm typing this as i read. so it may not always make sense. (do i ever make sense?)

kathy, i am proud of judd for dropping 45 lbs. i wish him the best of success for the rest of his weightloss.

melissa, any way to have all your coworkers on bl weigh together? i am very excited dh is doing core with you. now i need to "trick" curtis into it. a goal dress sounds like a good idea. i am so proud to hear your enthusiasm in your posts. makes me smile.

i love the theater, too. i have never lived near new york but i have seen some shows in ft worth/dallas/spokane. went to a few dinner theaters. loved those, too. i used to direct plays for competition when i was teaching. sure had a lot of fun. also, i can really, really appreciate the special effects and sets.

rose, i hadn't heard a word about the terrorists. we were out of contact with the world all weekend. i need to go find out what's going on. i hope all is all right.

nikki, i think there's always a "fear" factor. when i raised my son, we were afraid of the russians. wonder if there will ever be a "true peace."

patti, those tater quesadillas sound good. thanks for sharing the recipe.

    melissa, what a cute message!

i'm up to page 9 now!!!

vickie, sounds like you had a great time yesterday at the party. congratulations on staying core. i am proud of you. those little ones grow up, don't they? i'm still smiling about the ring bearer.

okay, i am inspired. i will start back on core in the am. thank you all for inspiring me.

rose, what movie did you see? did you go see da vinci code?

patti, that's scarey about the nighttime knocker. do you have 911 you could call?

i go to the rheumatologist and podiatrist in the am. sure hope i can get some help for these tootsies. the senior games are this coming friday. curtis is running the archery event so there won't be any trouble about my not walking to and from the targets. that will save me about a mile (really) of walking. we were talking today about how the other geezers will prob be wishing they had doctor's notes so they wouldn't have to walk. oh, well.

have a super sunday evening. i'm re-starting core in the am. now i need to go do some exercise biking so i won't be too far behind on my exercise for the july 4 goal. i'm not treadding any more till i talk to the doctors.
