Thanksgiving Challenge

Thanksgiving will be a challenge for most of us, that's for sure!
It is often helpful to create mini-goals throughout our weight loss journey. Using special events or holidays can motivate us to reach our goals even faster.
In an effort to help each other reach those goals, let's post our weight or other NSV goals for Thanksgiving. Where do you want to be by Thanksgiving?
Thanksgiving is November 24, just a little less than 4 weeks from now!!

Vickie 10-29-2005 11:16 AM

I want my 50 pound chick!

septembersgoal 10-29-2005 11:20 AM

My goal is lose 6 pounds by Thanksgiving and be comfortable in size 14 pants.
My other goal is to not go crazy at Thanksgiving dinners. I usually eat around 3 Thanksgiving meals. So my goal is to eat the things that I really love, making sure to get in lots of veggies and water. I don't want to feel deprived at Thanksgiving, or I guess I should say I'm not willing to. :o So anyway, I want to stay in control while eating those meals instead of stuffing my face everywhere I go. I'll save that for Christmas.

Katpo 10-29-2005 11:37 AM

My Thanksgiving goal will be the same as my birthday goal, which is a solid 145 by then. It's 8 pounds (well, probably only 6 after Monday morning's w/i) and only 3 weeks til BD, 4 weeks to Thanksgiving, so I'd better chop-chop. The other goal will be like Melissa said, to not go crazy on the Thanksgiving eating or the birthday celebration. I think we're going to a Mavericks game for my BD, I'll have to really watch it because basketball games aren't exactly famous for their healthy food choices.

p.a. 10-29-2005 12:10 PM

We already had our Thanksgiving so Im jumping ahead to my own christmas goal.,,,but if you guys dont mind I'll post my losses here if thats ok??

septembersgoal 10-29-2005 03:52 PM

Oops, sorry! I didn't think about our Canadian friends already having had Thanksgiving!

ontarget 10-29-2005 05:24 PM

i'm in for sure. i'll set up a ticker after my halloween wi. i'm not going to aim for losing much. i'm going to aim for losing period. when i first met all of you, i was about 7 lbs heavier than i was at my last wi so i'm heading in the right direction.

patti, you're smart to start on a holiday challenge.

i'll join ya'll in trying to eat sensibly during the holidays. that's a challenge in itself, isn't it? last year i was doing great. melissa, i was almost in the 170's. (almost but not quite) then we went to a christmas party. it was like i "unlearned" everything and undid all i had achieved. the scale kept rising till it hit 200 and i freaked. (i've weighed 228 before)

this year--i am positive i will stay focused. afterall, i have ya'll for help now. plus, i know firsthand it's taking me a whole year to undo what i did. life goes on.

okay, back to this thread. i'll make my ticker halloween. thank you, melissa, for starting this challenge for us. life is good!

Itryharder 10-29-2005 07:39 PM

Glad you started this challenge. I aim to lose 4# by Thanksgiving. I aim to exercise 5x a week by walking three miles on a treadmill. I also aim to keep in touch with this site because I know it helps me! Yay.

:balloons: i think we should come up with some kind of reward for ourselves when we meet this challenge. i'm not necessarily thinking of a money reward. any ideas?

Katpo 10-29-2005 08:19 PM

Reward? How about pecan pie?

Okay, realistically. How about we each pick one thing we really, really want to get or want to do, and get or do it. For me, if I reach my Thanksgiving goal by my birthday and we go to the Mavericks game, I will buy a new jersey or maybe a sweatshirt. I have a very cool Nowitzki jersey that I got for my BD two years ago but would like to have a team shirt.

ontarget 10-29-2005 08:25 PM

that sounds neat, kathy. hmmmmmmmmm? now i need to do some thinking.

septembersgoal 10-29-2005 08:37 PM

Hmmm. I'm thinking a manicure. It's been a year since I had one (the only one I've had!). That's not too expensive and would be nice.

ontarget 10-29-2005 10:42 PM

i'm still thinking. (kind of hard for a blonde.)

Froufy 10-29-2005 10:50 PM

Okay - you mean an AMERICAN goal right? ha ha ha - as patti mentioned we have already had our turkey day - but heck I love turkey! What day of the week is the 24th anyways? Maybe I'll have to make another turkey!

Okay I need to get to that 30 pounds down on my ticker which has been there for so long it is starting to annoy me! Which means anothe 8 lbs gone by November 24th! This is quite a lofty goal, and I certainly have my work cut out for me - but I just can't keep hovering like this!

Now as for my present....hmmmm? Let's see now how about a CARIBBEAN CRUISE? or winter holiday vacation? okay okay - I'll try and think of something a little less flamboyant!

Frouf

p.a. 10-30-2005 03:44 PM

mmmmI have to think on this one too...I love acrylic nails, I think thats what im going to do!
Melissa, where did you find that cute ticker...?

Katpo 10-30-2005 04:07 PM

Patti, go to tickerfactory.com -- they have lots of cute tickers and it's okay to use them here.

I've been thinking about it, and I might choose a body wrap the Saturday (or Sunday or Monday) before Thanksgiving. It's around $130 and sounds like it could be the finishing touch to a recent weight loss.

septembersgoal 10-30-2005 05:27 PM

Yeah, what Kathy said. Kathy, that sounds like a very interesting experience!

Itryharder 10-30-2005 08:40 PM

I'm going to reward myself with a charm for the charm bracelet I started 5 years ago.
My aim was to reward myself every five pounds down. Somehow I got stuck with a bracelet and only 4 charms. So! I'll get a charm for the 25# down that I've achieved and then I'll look forward to another charm for 30# down. That will be a thrill. I like the way everyone is positive on this site. (My bracelet is silver and the charms are only about $8 apiece. It isn't the money, but the accomplishment of actually losing weight and making the bracelet prettier.) Let's go!

Judy that is such a great idea! I really like the message that sends! Great plan.

ontarget 10-30-2005 09:15 PM

sounds like some good rewards here. i think i'll go into dillard's for a make up makeover presentation. i've been watching carmindy on "what not to wear" and am thinking i need a do-over.

septembersgoal 10-31-2005 09:02 AM

Sandra, that would be fun (and not too expensive, unless you end up buying all of the stuff!). :D

Itryharder 10-31-2005 09:12 AM

Okay, from this minute on my weight challenge will be for Thanksgiving. I can't believe it's so close. I've got to get thinking and planning because my family is always here for Thanksgiving. The day is fine because I'll allow my points for that day. It's the leftovers that follow especially since some of my kids and their kids will be here for the long weekend. I just need to have my head on straight. Good luck everybody!

Judy I've been meaning to ask you what is in your signature, because I can't see it (just a red X).

ontarget 10-31-2005 08:50 PM

being the positive person i am i will tell you i was a wee bit short of my halloween goal. soooo--my thanksgiving goal is to weigh 189.

another goal is to stay on program till thanksgiving. i have been falling overboard quite a bit lately.

a reward is the makeup presentation. melissa, i hope it doesn't cost me too much. i already use clinique and will just be adding a few new colors, etc. i've been watching carmindy on "what not to wear" when she makes folks over and i want to get that same outcome. ;)

okay, i'm off here now to make a tday ticker.

ontarget 10-31-2005 09:22 PM

here's my new ticker. (i hope.)

septembersgoal 10-31-2005 09:25 PM

Sandra, I would love to be on what not to wear but I wouldn't want them to throw away all of my grubbies. You gotta have grubbies!

ontarget 11-01-2005 12:55 AM

i have to have my grubbies, too. clinton would die if he saw them. can't you just picture him behind me in the 360?

ontarget 11-01-2005 12:59 AM

i just thought of something else. last time i tried not weighing at all till the end of the challenge. obviously that didn't work. this time i'm going to step on those scales every morning--as kathy would say, "nekkid and empty."

Katpo 11-01-2005 08:19 AM

Yes, nekkid and empty!

My Thanksgiving goal is going to stay the same and hopefully it'll be my ultimate goal. It's probably more ambitious than I should go, because I might be setting myself up for a big flopping failure, but hey! Might as well try!!

145 by Thanksgiving Day. (Empty and nekkid, of course.)

Itryharder 11-01-2005 12:58 PM

I'm aiming for 201# nekked and empty on Thanksgiving morning. I'll have to scurry to do that, but I know I can. I can't let myself get psyched out at the last minute like I did for Halloween where I slowed up my weight loss. I've got to keep on saying that slow and steady is the way to go for me. Exercise 5x a week, stay on Core and count in points when they are necessary, and no mind games. Just do it! Eat slow, move fast!!!!
My red x signature happened a long time ago when I tried to do the weight scales like you girls all do. My computer has built in blocks that doesn't allow me to exhibit this cute Ticker Factory information. Oh well. I'd love to have it because it's very inspiring and makes me happy to see, however, my starting weight numbers, where I am now, and where I want to be works too.
Good day everybody.

septembersgoal 11-01-2005 01:46 PM

Judy you should be able to change that setting on your computer. If you go to tools, internet options, and then change the security settings, that might work. If you have the code right, I would think we should be able to see it, even if you don't. You might try lowering the security level. Someone else (Kathy!) could probably tell you better than me.

Katpo 11-01-2005 02:03 PM

Another thing I've found about TickerFactory's tickers is that you have to remake it with every weight change. On the 3FC tickers, you can just change the numbers but not on TickerFactory. I learned that one the hard way.

ontarget 11-01-2005 04:32 PM

ooooooooh. remember when i thought i was in trouble with 3fc? it was cuz my ticker wouldn't work in the sig. i didn't know i needed to redo it completely. thanks, kathy. now the mystery is cleared and i'm thinking of getting more archery stuff on here again.

i weighed this am (nekkid/empty) and was down 1.5 lbs.

Itryharder 11-02-2005 08:53 AM

wow, you are all doing great in the weight loss challenge for Thanksgiving. I WI this morning at my WW's mtg. I think I lost a pound this week and that will make me very happy. Got to keep this going. Thanks for the ticker info. I'll see what I can do.
Good luck everybody!

Itryharder 11-02-2005 02:04 PM

Yay! I'm giving myself a :bravo: because I'm down 1.6# this week. Very thrilling. I've got to keep on keepin' on. Now onto next week and my aim to lose another pound. If I do that, I'll be down over 30# total and that will be so exciting.
You all take care and I wish us all well!

:woo: Way to go Judy! I'm so impressed by how well you are doing.

kellyjoiii 11-02-2005 03:24 PM

Ok... I am in for 6lbs by thanksgiving...that is a little less than 2 lbs a week. I can do this....and I will buy myself some whitestrips (30.00 value) which I will NOT buy unless I am at this goal.
I will weigh in tomorrow to see what the ticker needs to start with!
Here goes and GOOD for you guys who have been doing this and sticking with it!

ontarget 11-02-2005 05:12 PM

looks like everyone is doing great!!! i was down again this morning. watch my ticker go! i'm going to edit it daily whether it's going up or down. halloween challenge i didn't weigh at all till halloween--didn't work, so this time i'm a daily scales stepper.

kimberlydrn 11-03-2005 04:22 AM

I've decided to join the Thanksgiving challenge too and I even made a Thanksgiving ticker. This is fun!

GaGa27 11-03-2005 06:58 AM

Hi Chicks,
I have been a busy bee. I am still hanging in there with WW. I am doing great with a walking buddy now. That is one reason why I have less time on the puter. I read where you are now having a Thanksgiving Challenge. I must get in on some of this action! :carrot: I need the accountability so badly. I even made me some new tickers. I know you are a great bunch of gals. I know you will allow me to just wiggle right down here in this challenge with ya'll. Maybe we can all get something good done for ourselves this Thanksgiving. I want to look nice this year at Christmas or even at New Year's Eve. Whatcha say???? We can do it!!!

Hey Sandra  I put 5 lbs. as my goal for Thanksgiving. That is really a lot for this sluggish old bod! :(
