In the NY Times today there was an interesting article on studies of non-exercise daily activity that are being done at the Mayo Clinic. Their overall finding is that "lean" people spontaneously seem to move around more during their average day than overweight people.
The head researcher is so impressed by the findings that he had a treadmill installed in front of his computer so he can walk while he works!

Last night I said to DH (who fixed our remote for the tv) "wonder how many calories I would burn if I actually had to get up to change the channel?" I think my finger had carpel tunnel from the remote!
I know what you mean. My job could only be more sedentary if I could figure out how to type lying down. At least the bathroom is downstairs. Yet another good reason to drink that water!
At my job, the only physical activity is typing. So walking to the lunchroom to get water and walking to the bathroom comprise the sum total of "on the job" activity. Fortunately, I do both of these frequently throughout the day.
Before I started exercising at lunch, I ate lunch at my desk most of the time, so the entire day was completely sedentary.
