Default Thanks for being smart

You don't realize how much you appreciate basic schooling until you see a big lack of it!!

The board I used to be a member of has, IMO, 90% illiteracy. From the "I seen a guy..." to my favorite "your" (instead of "you're) ... you name it, they butcher the English language day in and day out. That's one of the main reasons I left, because I just couldn't take it anymore. And the worst part is that lots of these dingbats homeschool their children. I can acknowledge the occasional mistake, just because we're in a hurry, or our fingers get tangled up, or even that not everyone is a super typist ... but these people actually talk that way. To me, there is nothing worse than poor grammar, and no excuse for it.

So I wanted to say thanks to you guys. I realize it is the exception, but we're all pretty intelligent on this board! Spelling and grammar are important, and I'm glad we all know it.

Kathy, I agree with you. This board is made up of some very intelligent women. I am also married to an English major who has really helped me improve in this area!

This is funny. I'm not married to an English major - I AM one! I also appreciate the clarity of everyone's comments here.

You are such a crazy bunch!

We just had dinner with the inlaws. MIL was an English teacher for years and years; FIL has a masters in education and instructional design. Boy, do I sometimes feel like a big ol' dufus around them!!!

But it's true -- we are smart and we don't give ourselves enough credit for our good grammar and spelling!!

Yay the smartypants core girls can read and write!

I actually love to write and pride myself on being able to communicate well!

Thanks Kathy!

LOL. I is a college student... D

It annoys me beyond no end when people use "it's" instead of "its" and "you're" and "your..."

I'm also a stickler about spelling and grammar. My DH is a fanatic.

There's a grammar book for adults called "Eats Shoots and Leaves". Depending on whether you use commas and how you place them, you could be reading a description of a koala bear or a restaurant serial killer.

I've never read the book, but I bought it for a co-worker who also prides himself on his writing. I just love the title.

That's a GREAT BOOK. A must read for any fan of the English language.
