Hi Ladies:)
I'm so upset  :stress:  at my W-I this morning as I gained 1.6 lbs with all the planning that I done[having 19 WPA left] during the week the scale should have been the other direction. The only thing I can think of is having 1 c lite Progresso [0pt]veggie barley soup last night for supper. The amount of sodium in that soup was for 1 c 740. grams. Sorry for Whining Well come back an post when I'm in a better state of mind. Hugs :) |
Maryann: Just keep on doing the planning. It will work!
|
Oh I know too well that dreadful day 9/11/01.We were on vacation at Bar Harbor, when we heard that terrible news. We cut our vacation off,as we found a good friend of the family was killed[Fireman] trying to safe the others people in those towers.
The sad lost feeling never leaves, especially when the day comes around again & again & again. ================================================ Back to my meeting this morning, there was a topic all about portion control with measuring & weighing foods before we have them.My leader told me even if I'm following the Core, maybe I should go back to measuring especially the grain carbs like rice couscous, pasta & others. So I'm going to measure out 1/2 of cup grains this week as see what happens. I'm also going to watch my sodium intake. RHONDA-I think carbs are the problem with any middle aged woman, some more than others, and I did find that out this morning. This week I going to use a ice cream scoop to measure out my carbs. Hope your right I do want to succeed on this Core Plan. SLOAN-Thanks,we did have a good day. TRACIE-Oh sorry about your gain, I wish I had a good attitude like you have toward gains, but I don't. Have to think possible like Rhonda put in her previous post. VICKIE-Have fun picking out window treatments. Thanks for starting a memory of our men & woman that fell on that dreadful day,and for the families & friends of them Dear Lord we pray. Hugs :) |
It's hard to believe it's been seven years. It seems like just yesterday. What a sad day in history.
|
Hi chickies! I also remembered this morning that this happened years ago. I was at work and we were all huddled around the television in our conference room watching when the plane crashed into the twin towers. Such an awful day. It sure doesn't seem like it was 7 years ago.
Mary Ann, don't be upset. Just remember this is a lifestyle change and the weight will come off. It just might take awhile. You will have some gains along the way, but in the long run, your overall weight will go down if you follow the plan. We finally recieved documentation to prove my father was in the army, so we can finally file a claim for benefits for him. We are paying outrageous money for his assisted living center and now can get some help from the VA. We went to see our fathers lawyer (he specializes in elder law) and found out he will get 18,654 per year to help pay for his assisted living. We are so excited as we were worried that we would have to move him to a nursing home before he would really be ready to go, because his money would run out. But now, we know he will be able to stay in assisted living as long as he is able to. I don't want to put him in a nursing home until he absolutely has to go and with the VA money, he won't have to go until he is absolutely ready. So that's one big relief off my mind. But the application is huge, so I will be going to visit my dad, and meeting my brother there so we can start filling in the blanks. If we get it filed this month, even if it takes them 3-4 months to process(or longer) it will be retroactive from the month we file it. So got to go and get this done. BBL. |
Hi everyone. Not sure if I mentioned this or not, our ww at work session starts next Wed and its our old leader! I really like her and excited to start back with her. I've been doing OK food wise. I'm trying. I really, really need the meetings.
Thanks for the sloppy joe on potato idea -- can't remember who posted it. Had it tonight - topped the potato with soy motzzarella cheese then put the sloppy joe on top. YUM. The soy cheese is surprisingly good. First time I've bought it. Tracie - sorry you thought the grains casserole was bland. I loved it! I do like the idea of the burrito and other uses. The casserole freezes well if you have more than you can use! Mary Ann, don't let the scale derail you. It very well could have been the salt. Keep doing what you are doing, the scale will move. Sloan, thanks for the sticky chicken recipe. I'm going to make it this weekend. I'll bake it then try to convert it to a crockpot recipe. Seems like it will cook fairly quick, so it may be a good weeknight meal. I won't tell dh whats in it - if he knew he wouldn't try it. Lets see how that goes :) Well, got to get dd to bed. Have a good night. |
Tracie - check with your local town hall or city hall for a Vetrans affairs office. After my dad passed, we had to go through mountains of VA paperwork. Dad was retired airforce and an ex POW from WW2. Trying to get all his benefits carried to my mom was getting tough. She finally found the Vetrans affairs office in her town and they basically filled out all the forms for her and sent them in. Its worth a shot -- I wish we started there in the beginning.

Hi there
Well I didnt realize I had posted on the wrong thread the other day. I was wondering why I had gotten a reply. Dummy me. So I will have to go and catch up with everyone. Just went and read some of the post. I cant believe it has been 7 years 9/11. We went to the Flight 93 site just a couple of weeks ago. And I just got goose bumps. Just looking across the field where the plane went down. Thinking of all those innocent people. Saving so many lives. VICKIE you are in my prayers. Well I better get off here. At least I found you ladies. And glad that I did. I didnt even look at the date. So everyone have a great evening. coco |
Paula, thanks for the info regarding the veterans affairs office. We actually talked to them when we were trying to get proof of him being in the service. They couldn't find anything. Apparently the records of a lot of military people were lost in a fire that they had in St. Louis(the main place they keep all military records) so it has taken us quite awhile just getting proof he was in the army, so he can claim benefits. Thanks to our wonderful congressman, he helped us and got the proof.
Don't be sorry that I thought the go for the grains casserole was bland. Everyone has different tastes. I just think I would like it better if I spiced it up a bit. Plus, it was great in my burrito. I will freeze most of what I have left over and add it to different things to make them more filling. But next time I think I will add some extra spices and I'm sure I'll love it. |
Paula, I'm SO glad you liked the soy cheese since I recommended it when you asked about it.
Coco, you're not dumb! Thanks for the prayers. You and DH are in mine too. I'm so tired tonight but I stuck to program. I need to start exercising. I didn't purchase any window treatments today because despite my describing what I wanted, she didn't have any material in the colors that I wanted. I requested some samples on line. The painter's decorator comes tomorrow to talk about faux finishes. I had to turn my air on again tonight and it smells funny to me. It's the new furnace/air conditioner and air bear super duper media filter. I wonder if it's a problem with the filter or mold/mildew. The smokey smell has been almost completely gone for the day and a half that I got to turn the air off. Jim says he smells nothing. Grrrrrr.......I hate being the head case! |
Good Morning Chicks! I win for last post first post.
I only got 5 hours sleep so I'll be needing a nap after the paint color lady leaves today....after I run a few errands. Sheesh. I should also get the results of my test today. I'm starving. Time to go take my stomach medicine so I can eat as soon as Honey Lamb gets up. It's still dark here. I've been up since 4:00. Harumpf! Angela, where are you? How are you? |
Vickie, my thoughts are with you today. Let us know what the DR has to say.
Well, dd and I are ready to go for the day. The only problem -- the bus won't be here for about 40 minutes! I need to get used to this new schedule. Maybe I should put some laundry on or something productive. I've already had breakfast, dishwasher is going. hmmm...... Well, bbl. |
Morning All:
I was up with you Vickie, I just didn't come to the computer. Congratulations on your win  I lived in Houston for many years of my life so I've really been tracking Ike. Looks downright awful! The friends I communicate with there are expecting to be all right though. But, Galveston is another story. I'll never forget that my first grade teacher was a survivor of the REALLY big one in Galveston in 1900. She was a child when it hit, and she told us about it. I lost another pound :woohoo: Rhonda |
Hi Ladies :)
Going to be out most of the morning and then in the afternoon,so I hope you all have a wonderful day. Leo & I have to go to the new doctor this morning and a have a conversation on what the procedure for the port will be. He has to have it in on Monday,& it will be done in the operating room.Next day he has his chemo treatment. This afternoon one of my friends & I are going to the movies to see "The Women" Hugs :) |
Mornin' chicks-Hope you all are having a great day! TGIF
Maryann-let us know how the movie is. I want to take my friend to see it. Also, I know how you feel about the slow weight loss. I try to look at a large amount of time versus each week, for instance, some weeks I stay the same or even gain, but when I look at the entire time I've been doing core I see that I have lost 17 pounds. That's not too shabby! We have to hang in there and be patient, but sometimes it gets really hard! Vickie and Rhonda-I feel bad for both of you because of your sleep issues! It has to be maddening to wake up like that. I think I'm starting into "that time of life" for women, and I understand that sleep disturbances can be a problem. I read your posts and think "I'm already tired enough, how will I be able to function?" Hope you both sleep like a baby tonight! Tracie-Thanks for the info about the veteran's affairs office! My 76 year old dad is a veteran, and I will pass along your info to my mom. It may not be a bad idea to look into whatever paperwork is necessary before it becomes an issue for them. Right now he is still working, but you never know when things could change. Paula-I can't take credit for the sticky chicken recipe, but thanks anyway! I have not tried the core version yet, but I may just do that this weekend. Coco I have got to go to the grocery store this weekend and get some things in the freezer for lunch. I plan to make Saturday my "cooking" day. I really want to be prepared, because I know that is key for success. GTG be a teacher! TTFN |
Hello All,
Sorry to be MIA for a couple of days. It's been one of those weeks. Wed I went to the park w/my folks and then registered for my sock knitting class and came home and vegged (TOM arrived and I was whipped). Yesterday my mom and I went to Lansing to a quilt show. It was fun and I'm so proud of myself I didn't buy anything :D. If you saw my sewing room you'd know I don't need anything. Today I've been loading the car to go to Mackinaw camping, my sister is coming with me because DH can't (he has to leave town on Sun). Hopefully it doesn't rain. This weekend is their bi-annual bike tour so I'm going to go and ride the 25 mile route. I'd really like to do the 40 but I don't think I've been riding enough this summer to handle it. That will be my goal for next year. I haven't decided if I'm going to ride over the bridge on Sun morning or not, I'll have to decide before tomorrow. It probably won't be a core weekend but I should get in the exercise to offset it. Maryanne - DH is supposed to get a port for the chemo. The plan is to install it when he has his surgery in a couple of weeks and then remove it when they do the ostomy-reversal surgery after the chemo's done. He's supposed to get some kind of chemo that self pumps so he doesn't have to stay thru the treatment, he'll just go every other week to be hooked up? I'm not sure how that works, I'll worry about that when the time comes. Sloan - I saw your message. I'll check into that while he's at the hospital, I'm sure I'll have lots of time. Vickie - I don't want to have your sleep issues that's for sure. Hope you can get in a nap. Rhonda - A teacher who was around in 1900, I know you're older than me but.... Sandra - Hope your trips going well and Ike doesn't hit your home too much. Paula - I'm not a morning person, I can't imagine having extra time in the morning....Glad your old leader is back. A good leader can certainly help. Tracie - Good luck filling out the forms. Doesn't sound like a lot of fun. Coco - don't feel stupid we've all done it. Well, I skipped ww this morning, but my home scale (which is what I'm tracking here) says I'm up .2, hopefully that's just extra salt I've been ingesting this week :(. Have a great weekend everyone. -Tech :bike2: |
Hi:)
I got back early enough to make my dinner and than bake some banana muffins before I head out to the movies. TRACIE-I know I shouldn't be upset but after being on the Core for 12 weeks I should have lost more than 3 lbs. I still haven't hit my 10% yet which is 150. I have been losing and gain the same 1.5-2 lbs every other week. Going to weigh & measure my grain carbs, like was mentioned at our meeting topic.Reading Labels and know the severing sizes or each food. My leader said the topic applies to Core people also, even though we don't have to,she suggested that I should anyway. PAULA,Thanks,it think it was more then the sodium that brought my weight up. I think after listening to my leader i must tend to up my grain carb more than I should. COCO-Don't worry about posting on the wrong thread I think every one done that once in a while. I know 9/11 really hit hard we me as my DD & her DH lost a best friend[fireman] that stayed with the people before the tower collapsed.VERY VERY SAD, AND SHOULD NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. VICKIE-Sending [[[[good vibes]]]] for good results for your tests.By all means let us know what the doctor says. RHONDA-Hope all the people living in Galveston will be safe when the storm its. Big congrats on your :carrot: 1-lb:carrot:weight loss. Hope you find your ZZZ's tonight. SLOAN-I'll let you know, about the Women, coming attractions sounds like it will be enjoyable.I know, but I want to lose more that 3 lbs. in 12 weeks.I guess I have to be patient, didn't gain this over night did I??? DONNA-Thats interesting about your DH not having to stay in the treatment room as he going to have pump. Its amazing how medicine has come so far. Sending prayers for your up coming surgery. Have a great afternoon Hugs :) |
Well Donna, the teacher was my teacher in 1952 and she was near retirement then.
I'm weeks away from 63. TGIF!!!! BBL, Rhonda |
Hi everyone, Im new here. just wanted to wish everyone a wonderful weekend. Im excited to be here.
|
Hi, Barbi. Welcome to the bunch. I love your photo. You're adorable looking.
We're in Cheyenne, WY. Should be home sometime Monday. We had vehicle probs today and limped @ 28 mph over 70 miles. Now we're mended and ready to head out in the AM. Life is good. All of you keep on keepin' on. Looks like you're doing great. |
:welcome2: Barbi. Hope you like it here.
|
Good Morning Chicks! The Chicago River is at flood stage and rising. What a weird weather summer we are all having. In 52 years I have never heard that the Chicago River is rising and at flood stage. Fortunately, I live in one of the highest areas in Cook county.
I hope everyone in Texas and the surrounding areas will be safe and sound. I'm supposed to go babysit for my Great Niece today while her Dad and Brother go to a ball game but I don't think that's going to happen. Maybe he can take him to an indoor activity. Have a great day everyone! |
Good Morning Ladies
I so glad that the weekend it here. Don't have to rush to doctors offices, just relax and staying home. SLOAN-You'll love the movies it was so good, and I can relate to have to friends stick together.I'm going to recommend it to my DD and all females. Very funny,my friend & I were laughing all the time.No men in the movie or the theater at all. BARBI-Welcome:welcome2:to the thread I agree you'll like it here. SANDRA-I did good at the movie no popcorn or soda,as we just finished dinner, but after the movie I was a raging wolf when it came to eating I really went off program, today I have my wits with me,going into the control w) portion sizes mode. VICKIE-Did you heard from the doctor??? Hope the report comes in fine. WOW You had some winter & summer this year with all the freakish weather that year having. Have a couple of friends that like out that way and they told me it not normal at all. Take care, and be careful. Hugs :) |
:welcome3:Barb. We're glad you're here! This is a great place to be if you need tips and support for Core. You'll also get a great new group of online friends! We go through our ups and downs with weightloss and life in general.
Donna, where in Michigan do you live? Did I already ask you this? I'm in the Grand Rapids area(Jenison actually, which is between Holland and Grand Rapids). I've also almost completed the VA forms except for the bank account information(my brother has this and I need to get it from him) and also my father's net worth information. I don't know his finances, my brother keeps track of that as he has Power of Attorney. It wasn't as difficult as I thought, once I started going through it. Coco, we've all posted on the wrong thread one time or another. Don't feel dumb because you are definitely not!! We are just happy you are back! Sloanie, I wish I could make Saturday(today) my cooking day, but after being gone for 4 weekends in a row, I need to clean this disgusting house. It's a mess. But there is so much to do that I am taking breaks in between cleaning. But I will get it done. I will probably make Sunday my cooking day. I think I only have 1 or 2 days worth of pancakes left, so I need to make more of them. I have these 3-4 days a week and I love them. Plus they keep me filled up so I'm not starving by the time lunch time rolls around.. The only advice I have regarding military benefits, is make sure you either have his discharge papers, or if not, any information that you can get regarding his term of service. Like where and when he entered the military, where and when he was discharged, his service number, what branch of the military he was in, and anything else you can think of. Unfortunately, we didn't realize he could get benefits so when my father could still remember things, we never asked him any of this. So when we realized he could get benefits, he couldn't remember anything. It took us almost 2 years to get proof that he was in the military. We could have been getting benefits for a lot longer time if we would have had proof earlier on. A lot of military records were lost for the Army and Airforce in the 1976 fire at the military records dept. I did great at yesterday's potluck lunch. I brought my own 1 pt hamburger bun and had a sloppy joe(5 pts?) and my kfc coleslaw and I also brought some ff milk. That's all I had. I didn't eat any chips, pasta salad or any of the yummy looking desserts(blueberry pie, cake, tortes and others). So I did pretty well at lunch. |
Great job, Tracie!
My Niece is on the way to the Wizard of Oz festival in Indiana with her daughter. I tried to convince her not to go since I heard I-94 is closed but she didn't seem to care. Oh well. At least I gave her the information. |
Hi All:
This is a very exciting day for me. My goddaughter (13 years old) co-starred in a movie that is being shown this afternoon at the Toronto Film Festival. It was recently reviewed very favorably. I'll be back to tell you all about it. We are having rain, which is supposedly related to Ike, but I can't quite see how. It must have pushed another front into us. Have a great Core day. Rhonda |
That's kewl, Rhonda. We'll be waiting on your review.
Maryann, been there done that. Do you think you might have been rewarding yourself? I think that's what I do--a lot. We are now in New Mexico and should be in Texas by noon tomorrow. Home? Sometime Monday. Sounds like Ike missed us except for maybe a little rain. Life is good. Sorry this is short. I need to go google GERD. I think I have it. |
Wow Rhonda! How exciting. Maybe she's a future star.
Safe trip, Sandra. Ike is sure getting the Chicago area. Things that never flooded before are flooding. We are getting more rain today until about 5 or 6. So far we are doing well as long as the two sump pumps in the basement keep working. You know here in the Midwest we have to have pumps in our basements to pump the ground water out of our basements or they would be flooded with water in heavy rains. I have GERD and hiatal hernia. Not good. One of the best things we can do for ourselves is lose weight and eat properly. There are some foods to avoid, including caffeine. I take Prevacid every day. Good luck. So far, so good! Fingers crossed. I'm doing pretty well on program.....I think! May scale croaked after last week's weigh in so I'm not sure. I've been in withdrawal since I usually get on the scale at least once a day, maybe more. I'm trying not to replace it but I think I may have to. Weigh in is tomorrow night. |
Wow Rhonda, how exciting. Let us know how the movie is!
Sandra, my son had that when he was about 8 and they kept having him take medications for it. Nothing worked. 4 years later and a lot of *****ing from me to do something other than give him medications that didn't work, they finally did an operation on him and he has not had a problem since. Plus, he was quite chunky, so after the operation he lost a lot of weight and has never put it back on. That was almost 10 years ago. They wrapped his stomach around his esophagus or something like that, which allowed the flap on the esophagus to close. Something like that. But he lost weight in the process. |
Hi All:
The movie was very sweet. They've been invited to a juried competition in Rome in October. It's a independent film, not likely to attract commercial attention, but if it comes out on a DVD that can be rented or bought, you can be sure I'll let you know. This girl is one who will be able to do whatever she chooses in life, I'm sure. She's intelligent, cute, perceptive and poised beyond her years. You can read a review and see her picture if you type, without the quotation marks, "Elena Hudgins Lyle" into Google. It's right there with TIFF (for Toronto International Film Festival.) I went to the party also and really enjoyed basking in the reflected glory! Rhonda |
Hi Ladies:)
Its a very rainy:rain: & damp day here on the cape.My shoulder is bothering me today.Have to rub some cream like Ben gay over it to ease up the pain. We just found out that our movie theater is closing, thats the only one we have in town.If we want to see movie we either have to rent one or go to neighboring towns. QUESTION????How many points do you allow yourself for the day or do you just use them at random??? Right Now I trying to use as little as possible but my leader keeps on telling me that I should use them but only watch my portions. RHONDA-Thanks:thanks: for sharing the web site. She is a very pretty girl.Thats a great achievement to be in a film.Big congrats to her,you must be so proud of her. SANDRA-No:no:I'm thinking if I would have had the popcorn or something to eat during the movie I would have been fine and not go into a rampage to find any kind of meal that wasn't CORE. Wasted a lot of points when I wanted to stay Hard Core espeically over the weekend. VICKIE-Sorry:sorry: about all the devastation that Ike is causing you, hope that your sump pumps are going to be able to take 5-6 in of rain.:cross: crossing my fingers. Have a nice Sunday, Hugs :) |
Hi Everyone
WELCOME BARBI!!!! Well not much happening here. Just kinda relaxing. It is really humid today. But cooler weather on the way. Went to a cook out last night. Nothing was core though. So made the best choices that I could. I took turkey meatballs. But they wouldnt have been core because of the sauce I put on them. So not sure how weigh in will go tomorrow. I wont get to go to my meeting tomorrow night. Have a meeting a chruch. That the preacher planned and didnt ask anyone. So will have to go to either the morning meeting or noon. Thinking of the noon one. VICKIE Hope you get some rest. How did the test go. Thinking of you. Well I gotta go. The girls want to go out. Have a wonderful day everyone. Thinking of each of you. coco |
Rhonda, we need a picture! The movie sounds like something I would enjoy immensely. I'd rent it if it were available here. Keep us posted.
Coco, my test was normal. The ENT is pretty much stumped at the moment. He is saying it might be my nose "regenerating" after the horrible head cold I had back in May for the whole month. I had no sense of smell for about two week after the cold ended and it has slowly been returning. I used to be a super smeller. Now it has to be pretty much right under my nose. The only other guess of his is hormones. Darn it! I knew they'd blame menopause eventually. If they can't blame my obesity they blame menopause! Whatcha gonna do? I haven't smelled the smokey smell since Wednesday night except for a few brief whiffs hear and there. I'm hoping that it never comes back. My Jim thinks it was a weird virus. Thanks, Maryann! Ike is nearly gone. Good thing too. I don't know how long it is going to take us to dry out. I'm cooking oven fries and burgers for dinner with fresh grean beans. What are you all having? |
Happy Sunday Ladies!
It's another freezing day in the U.P. after raining all of last night. I fell off the wagon this week. We had sorority recruitment from last Sunday until yesterday so unfortunately I never made it back to my apartment after classes to make dinner, so I ate a lot of fast food and didn't get to exercise (minus all the running around I did between classes, work, and recruitment). To my surprise when I weighed in yesterday @ WW I actually lost .2. I was expecting to gain at least 2 pounds. I finally got back on track yesterday and am determined to lose at least 3 pounds this week. I keep saying I'm going to try the Cottage Cheese Pancake recipe but haven't gotten around to it. Maybe tonight :) Maryann- What I do is divide 35 by 7 and get 5 points per day. I also take into consideration my workout points (i.e. if I burn 4 points I will add that on to my 5 points for the day and consume 9 that day) Hope everyone else is doing well! http://www.3fatchicks.net/img/bar-pi...155/182.8/.png |
Vickie, I guess we're the Gerd Girlies. I read a lot about it last night. You're right. I need to lose weight. I am positively going to WW Tues AM. We should get home Monday.
We're in NW Texas now and should get home early tomorrow. Right now I am in the truck on the puter and Curtis is napping in the condo. Life is good. Tracie, I'm sorry your son had so much trouble with it. I'm hoping diet and exercise will take care of mine. I was diagnosed with it several years ago but I got better when I lost weight. I am hoping for that again. Maryann, I'm sorry you're losing your theater. I know you enjoy going to it. Rhonda, you may be GodMom to a star. Wouldn't that be kewl! Coco, ;) ;) for wi. Vickie, I'm glad your test came back good. Now you and Jim keep high and dry. Curtis and I had salads at McDonald's. They were actually very healthy. We're both super-tired of pigging out. (Don't know how long that will last.) Sammi, I'd take that loss for sure. Congratulations. Maybe we do still believe in miracles? |
Great going, Sammi!
Sandra, I'm shooting for the diet and exercise route too. Don't fight the Prevacid if they try to give it to you. It helps and you don't have to stay on it forever. You don't want to damage your esophagus. |
