Core Chat: August 11-17
:comp:
New Pages! |
We have a newbie named Sue introducing herself in another thread. I've suggested that she just come on over to the chat line.
I haven't even opened this morning's paper yet. What'cha bet there's pictures of flames shooting in the air, firefighters and people looking distraught. I saw the pictures on CNN last night. Wow. Now the recriminations start about why a propane plant was in a residential area. I woke up really motivated. Who's going to start the challenge for the week?? Rhonda |
Hi, everyone - I'm taking Rhonda's advice and jumping into the chat! Looks like we've got several other Texans in the group - must be all that good food down here!
Sue (newbie, but not for long) |
I'm originally a Texan, but have ended up in Tennessee by way of Illinois and Florida. My morning is moving slow!!
|
Well... actually, I'm not originally a Texan - I'm from New Orleans, but after Katrina, we decided to make a fresh start near Houston, where my husband's sisters were already living. And we like it here - friendly people, and great Tex-Mex :T ! We do miss all that good New Orleans food, though - thankfully, my DH and I are both good cooks... which I guess is why I'm on WW to begin with!
Sue |
Hi everyone. Only 5 days till we leave for the beach in Maine. I can't wait!!!! I've been getting things together but can't really start packing things until after my cleaning lady comes tomorrow. I don't want stuff in her way. I'm going to make carrot cake muffins and freeze those and boil up all the eggs left in my fridge. I'll go shopping Friday night for fruit - its about a 2 1/2 hour ride so I figure a bag of fruit should be OK on the ride up.
Otherwise, just trying to stay in control this week as I want to stay core next week - but I am bringing a box of wine and my niece her blender and margarita machine!!! So, if I do good with food, that will offset the alcohol?? Welcome Amy and Sue!! Its a great board, looking forward to getting to know you. Can someone post the weekly challenge the next few weeks? Not sure how much I'll be around this week with working and getting things ready. See ya when I can. |
I'm new to message boards, what's DH, DD, etc?
|
Thanks for the welcome back - and nice to see all the Texans here - the beter to shoot all of our scales - ha ha ha.
DD - dear daughter/dh darling (or damn?) husband, etc..... Paula - silly you - everyone knows that alcohol while on vacation doesn't count - esp if you stand while drinking it :) I am not really focused on my eating and trying to convince myself NOT to skip the gym tonight (might to tomorrow as dh is home this evening but will be out tomorrow so won't get to see him so might plan gym then?). Eating cheetos - at least they are the baked kind..... Have some LO chicken in fridge so will have that for dinner. And a special WELCOME to amy and sue - have visited NO years ago and can atest to the fabulous food! Where's Vickie??? |
Sue..Oh, the Cajun food in NO...oh my, how I miss it. Now, I spent many many years in Houston. There was a real hole-in-the-wall place to eat by the Univ. of Houston that had the best "dirty rice" anywhere, ever. I'll try to remember the name of it. Where are you generally in Houston? I lived various places, mostly in the SW part of town. My dearly departed sister lived various places also, most recently in Meyerland. I started going to Houston when I was 10, moved there when I was 17 and left when I was 30. I visited innumerable times after that. I know Houston really well; consider it my second home. I hope you like it even though you must miss NO a great deal.
Paula, have a great trip...I'll start a challenge if no one else does. Rhonda |
Welcome, welcome, welcome to all the new chicks! We're glad to have you with us. This is a great group :)
Well, I made it through the first full day of the 08-09 school year. It is the first time in 11 years that I don't have one of my own children here with me. It's sad, but also kinda nice. My dd is leaving for school next week. She'll be about five hours away in Johnson City, Tennessee. My ds will be attending community college and living at home for a while, so my nest will not be empty, yet. I'm trying my best to allow ds to sink or swim this year. He made good grades in high school, but I was always on him to study. I think it is his turn to take responsibility; I'm tired. We had a "Black to School" party for all of our college bound family members last night. We all wore black to signify our mourning over summer's ending. It was so much fun. We had balloons and pennants to represent the five colleges that they will all be going to attend. Of course, we ate too much food, but the family time was very special. Since I am overwelmed with the "first day fatigue", I'm going to go home, and I'll check in on you guys tomorrow. Hope you all have a good night. TTFN |
Hi Ladies:)
Last posting today as we had to go to the chemo center,What a day!!! A Day form:devil:****:devil:I'm just glad its over. We got there at 9 AM for the blood work and than following the chemo was going to start we didn't see the doctor or get into the chemo lounge until 11:30 2 hrs later. The Doctor was angry at his secretary for us waiting that long, and than when I told them If I could stay with Leo while he as having chemo they told me yes of course you can,but I told them that I wasn't allowed they last time we came. The doctor nurse really blew steam. Well Leo's treatment than was changed as his feet were burning & he couldn't walk.We found out that the drug Taxin was going to cripple him,so they took him off and now are trying a new drug called Gemcitabine,it less toxin on the body. Can you imagine,a drug that can cripple a patient, how scary is that. Brought my lunch to the center and its wasn't core proof.thank goodness I have 21 WPA's to play around with. Just wanted to let you know why I wasn't on the board today, have to start dinner will post tomorrow. Have a wonderful evening ladies. Hugs:) |
Paula, I'll bet you're getting really excited to go on vacation. It's always so nice to get away! But it's also nice to get back home as well. Have a great time!
I've only been to Texas once, and never been to New Orleans. Maybe some day. BB, My dbf always tells me, it's the "practice" of medicine. They don't really know what they are doing half the time. I can't believe you weren't allowed to be in the room with your dh the last time, but now they say it's ok. Very strange. At least it's all been taken care of now. Frouf, sure wish drinking didn't count, when you were on vacation. I think part of my gain last week is from having drinks :o. Gotta have some cocktails while resting and relaxing and having fun!!! That's a must!!! Sloanie, your school starts early! Our kids don't go back until the end of August! Rhonda, isn't that where you want to get back to when you retire? Or are you thinking somewhere else in Texas? Sue and Amy, click on this and it will help you out with any acronyms that might be used in here (such as dh, dd, ds, TOM, etc. http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=83585 |
Tracie: we're going to move to Denton, just 30 miles north of Ft. Worth. It's closer to family than Houston is.
Maryann: stand your ground to be with your DH at all times...whenever he wants you there. The health care professionals can get too overworked and tired and forget the importance of support for the patient sometimes. Sloanie, I love the mourning for the end of summer. I think we might have to do that here in Toronto because it never seemed to really come! :beach: Rhonda |
GOOD MORNING LADIES:)
Leo & I had a very good sleep last night after the ordeal in the center. I can't believe Now that the meds have change Leo want to go out and go to the store . I will be back later. Hugs :) |
Hi chickies!
Maryann-sounds like the change in chemo will be better for Leo. It's good that he wants to get out! Tracie-we do start early, but we get out around May 20. Rhonda- the party was really fun! Even my 75 year old parents wore black for the occasion. I'm hanging in there with core. I've had a couple of days this last week that were out of control, but I'm back in the saddle. I'm drinking my water today, and will start walking with my friend tomorrow. Also, will all of you "prayin' " chicks pray for my dh? His name is Vance. He has issues with diabetes, heart meds, and joint pain. He's been feeling really bad lately, and it's getting him down. There is nothing specific going on, he just feels yukky. His doc has started treating him for depression, but he's still gloomy. I'm concerned about him! GTG be a teacher. TTFN |
Hi I'm back again:)
WELCOME :welcome: AMY & SUE to the tread you find it very supportive & caring ladies on this board. TRACIE-I couldn't believe it when that said no,to my standing, after all we went though I remember 2 1/2 years ago I could stay. The head nurse asked who told me that I couldn't come in,I told them it was a nurse that I didn't know,as I didn't want anyone to get into trouble. RHONDA- I wasn't going to let them get away with that, but than I didn't want that person to get into trouble either.Leo was surprised when I told them, and than agreed tha I did the right thing. SLOAN-I think the med Taxol was too strong for him,and now that he using a milder drug he can walk again with out all that pain. It a mazing how different meds work for different people. Now I have to take care of myself I have an doctors appointment this afternoon for my colon problem. Hugs :) |
Just dropping in to say hi. Sloan, I do hope your DH gets to feeling better! It's difficult to have a number of complicated things happening at once.
I had a pretty good day today. My godson and his wife called at the last minute to go out for dinner and I had chicken breast and salad, so did all right. I had more than three points though today: more like 5. Not good enough for my challenge! Rhonda |
Hi Ladies:)
Late posting again had to go to c-lab and have my blood tested as my doctor thinks I'm anemic.I'm bleeding internally since Sunday out of the rectum and she told me it not hemorrhoids. I had that once before 8 years ago,and a colonscopy photo saw the internal hemorrhoid bleeding. She said it might be a tiny cut in the colon. This morning the symptoms of bleeding are gone. Still have a pain running from my waist down to the appendix.Have no idea why this is happening again. Could it be the way I'm eating being on the CORE. Hope not as I really don't like the flex plan. Leo is fine the pain in his legs & feet is subsiding.we went down to the beach to breath in the fresh air while I did some walking. Have to start dinner will be back later. Hugs :) |
Maryanne:
There is nothing about eating Core that should cause such problems. I can imagine that an extremely high fiber diet could cause some distress until one gets used to it, but I bet your diet is totally unrelated. Let us know what the Dr. says. Good luck. Rhonda |
Yoo hoo!!!!
Where's everybody today, when I need to brag!? I did my Richard Simmons DVD today. He is a madman! But, I love it. And, I ate only .5 points, that's all! :woohoo: Rhonda |
Rhonda - We're southeast of Houston, in League City (just south of Clear Lake), and yes, we really do like it here. Since we're near Galveston Bay, it has a beachy feel and lots of marinas, makes me feel like I'm on vacation in Florida all the time!
And my brother-in-law just bought a house in Meyerland - that's a really nice area, very pretty along the bayou. Take care, Sue |
Sloanie, sorry to hear about your dh. I will keep him in my prayers, along with MaryAnn's dh.
Sounds like your "Black to School" party was really fun. My dbf's sister is also a teacher and we are forbidden to say the word "school" in her presence, during the summer. If we accidentally say it, she says we are swearing! Rhonda :carrot::carrot::carrot::woohoo:WTG on the Richard Simmons DVD. Was it sweatin to the oldies or something else? I haven't gotten in my exercise for the challenge. Thought I could get in some bike riding, but my bottom is still sore from the bruised tail bone and I am having a surgical procedure on Monday and can not take my medication for my bad knee(It thins my blood and they can't have that when doing surgery), and I am hobbling around like an 80 year old woman. My knee hurts so bad. Now I know how much my medication has really been helping me. So I will probably not fulfill the exercise part of the challenge. On a good note, I have made it two days on eating less than 3 points, I think. Tonight, we went to Fridays, and I had dragonfire chicken, which was a grilled chicken breast with pineapple/mango salsa, served on brown rice, with broccoli. I had the sauce on the side(Kung pao sauce) and only had a smidgen of it. So I'm thinking that would be only 3 points or less, for any oil they may have used on the chicken and the smidgen of sauce I ate. The broccoli was definitely steamed. I had never had it before at Fridays, but I think it is a very core friendly meal and will probably eat that when I go from now on. It was very good. Gee, I'm really a talker tonight. I will stop boring you now!!!- |
Sloan..my H has some of the same heath issues and I worry alot.
I will pray for them both to feel better. Mine has a new business that is not going well and I think he may just sell out before the end of the year. |
Tracie..Your post are never a bore!!!
I get ideas when you tell what you are especially when you went out because that is always a challenge. I will be thinking of you on Monday. |
Rhonda...great job with the exercising..Not sure I could handle
Richard Simmons for that long but maybe it would speed me up to be done with it LOL.. I may have him mixed up with the fuzzy headed , tight pants ,goofy guy from way back??? |
Maryanne,
You need to get answers about all those symptoms... Core seems so heathy that I don't think it could cause problems like that. Glad Leo sounds better.. take care and keep us posted. |
Nancy, that's him all right. I bet he would love your description of him.
I used the "Dance your pants off" routine, and I've ordered more. He's just so ^#%$ happy that it rubs off on me and gets my heart rate up and the sweat flowing and that's what it's all about! I've ordered a set of 5 of his DVD's and we'll see how they are. I also like some of Kathy Smith's work. Most of the exercise DVD's out there bore me. But, Billy Blanks provides a real workout also. Sue, I love that area. Galveston has quite a past. Check it out at your library, if you don't know already. Lots of illegal gambling, mobsters, etc. Tomorrow is my WI but I peeked this morning. So far, I've lost two pounds this week! I'll change my ticker tomorrow if the loss holds. :woohoo: Rhonda |

Too funny, Nancy - Richard Simmons IS the fuzzy headed, tight pants, goofy guy :dizzy: from way back! As a New Orleanian (he's from New Orleans too), I've always chuckled at how the rest of the world views him... even by New Orleans standards, he's a bit of an odd duck! I've only met him once, briefly, in passing, many years ago, but I do know his brother and he's a REALLY nice guy. Sue |
Good morning ladies. Its been a busy week - wrapping up things at work and trying to get things organized to leave on Saturday. My cleaning lady came this week, so I'll just need to do a quick wipe down in the bathroom and a quick vaccuum on Saturday before we leave. Tonight I need to go to the grocery store and pick up some last minute things and then finish laundry. By tomorrow night, the fish goes to my mom's to fish sit for the week and then I want to get the clothes packed.
OH -- on Tuesday I dropped off dd at a friends, went to the bank and then to get my pedicure. Well, not 2 minutes after I left the bank a plane nose dived and crashed in the parking lot of the grocery store! When I finished at the bank I debated running to the grocery store or Target to get some things, but decided to wait. The plane crashed at 10:17, my bank slip was at 10:15. I'm so glad God had me leave, that is not something I would have wanted to witness. You may have seen it on the news nationally as it was an Angel Flight - brining a cancer patient from Long Island to Boston. Very sad. Rhonda - congrats on the exercise and meeting your challenge! I hope the loss sticks. Keep up the great work. Tracie - that dinner sounds yummy! I think 3 points would more than cover the sauce. Sorry about your knee. I hope its getting better. Welcome Amy and Sue! Hi to everyone else! |

I agree that an upbeat exercise DVD is so much better. Happy is contagious isn't it !!! |
Hi All:
It's a really quite board this week. DH and I finally made our trip to Niagara Falls, NY, to sort out his immigration matters. It was nothing serious and all is taken care of. He just had to cross the border and come back into Canada to present his "papers." We did a little grocery shopping and had lunch at Applebee's. I had chicken, broccoli and new potatoes. He had a heart-attack-on-plate burger and I took a bite of it, only one bite. It was a long day, about 8 hours, and much of it in stalled traffic because of construction. It probably added a good hour to the trip. But, it's done and we got home safely. I hope you've all had a good Core day. Rhonda |
Nancy, "fuzzy headed , tight pants ,goofy guy from way back???" That's so funny!! I have some of his sweatin to the oldies tapes, and I always liked them. Richard is pretty strange, but his energy can really get you going!!
Paula, I didn't hear about the crash, but I wouldn't have wanted to be there to see it either. How sad. Well, I wi tonight and I gained .6! I was very happy with that. I thought my gain was going to be a couple pounds, so slightly over 1/2 pound really made me happy. Especially if you only knew all the junk I ate. But I did get a lot of bike riding in, and that must have helped. I have been staying up way too late all week, watching the olympics. I can't wait for the weekend so I can sleep in! |
Hi there. We are at Missoula at an RV park that's in a bowl. That means I don't have good reception for my laptop/via cellphone connection. I'll try to get on here when I can. I was going to rejoin WW in the AM; however, Curtis is going on a fishing trip with a buddy and I will be left without transportation. I'm about 7 miles out of town. I will begin WW in the AM anyway. Please send me good vibes. I need them.
I apologize for not responding to each of you. I hope you're all doingwell. |
Morning all:
I meant to write last night that it is very sweet of Paula to get her house cleaned up for all of us to visit while she's away on vacation. Very, very thougtful of her ;) I maintained my 2 pound loss this week! So, I get to change my ticker and bask in my glory  I hope I can keep on losing. Rhonda |
Congratulations, Rhonda. It's not easy to maintain while traveling.
Tracie, that's not a bad gain at all. We've been staying up late watching the games, too. Last night I was whooping and hollering around midnight. Those gymnasts are amazing, aren't they? I'm alone in the condo. This doesn't happen often at all. Curtis is gone fishing with a buddy and should be home shortly after lunch. I'm enjoying my alone time. Don't get much of that. Don't really want much of that. I was going to join WW this AM but have no wheels. I may go tomorrow. If not, I'll go next week. I really like the Fri morning meeting and am not familiar with the Saturday one. I am op. Had shredded wheat for bfast. Now I'm just chilling watching Olympic coverage on TV. Life is good. |
Sue and Amy, welcome to the boards. I'm Texan, too. Guess you could tell that by my avatar, though.
Frouf, I have my sight on the scales and will release the arrow soon. Paula, I guess you're about ready to leave for your trip. I agree with Frouf. Alcohol on vacation doesn't count. Sloan, I am praying for Vance. I hope his depression lessens soon. Bless his heart. :hugs: Maryann. Tracie, Rhonda will be less than 100 miles from me when she moves to Denton. |
Hey chicks! I'm almost through the first full week of school :carrot: It's gone pretty well, but I'm still trying to whip my fourth period class into shape. Very, very chatty and immature for 10th and 11th grade.
Thanks for the prayers for my dh. He's basically the same. He does have some good days, but they are few and far between. I don't want to make him sound like an invalid, 'cause he's not. He works an 8 hour day. It's just that on many days, that's all he is able to do. We spend a lot of time at home resting. I'm staying op and sporadically getting in some exercise. I think I've maintained this week, but that's okay with me! I'm going to have to get ready for class. Sorry I can't speak to each of you. Just know that I am thinking good thoughts for you all. Hope you all have a great core weekend. |
Hi Ladies:)
Feeling a lot better the problem was internal & external hemorrhoids.Had the internal 8 years ago. The doctor told me that bright red bleed is alway the Big H [inner & outer]As far as the cramps & pains on low part were simply from contractions from the ordeal.. He told me to use Witch Hazel and gave me a prescription for a cream to use in that area. Leo is feeling super great this morning we are heading out to Walmart and than to the grocery store. I'm so :)happy:) as I got my Leo back,we doing things together again. RHONDA-You're correct i asked my doctor about Higher fiber & low fat diets and he agreed it had nothing to do with the symptoms that I was having. Big congrats on your 2 lb weight loss.Glad that your finally made Niagara Falls, its beautiful country up there. What is a Heart attach on a burger????Never heard of them. Congrats on your maintaining this week. NANCY-Thanks for the well wishes, the both of us are feeling a lot better today. The Core is a healthy program and I'm not going to go off of it. SUE-I only have one type of Richard Simmons its a firming type but I've since broke stretchy band that goes with it.He has lots of fun types but if I buy another exercising tape Leo will kill me. Quote:
TRACIE-That .6 is water retention in some form you lose it in no time. I hate when that happens to me.I'm going back on HARD CORE this week allowing me 2 WPA's per day. SANDRA-Thanks for the hugs. SLOAN-Still praying for your DH.Good Luck with your 10 & 11 grades. I know what your going though as my sister was a teacher years ago before she retired. She likes being a real estate agent better. Hugs :) |
I am taking my oldest to college tomorrow and I am really not handling
this very well. I am taking it out on the rest of my family because I am so sad and feel like I am losing my first kid. I am really close to my boys and was a single parent most of their childhood and I am sorta lost with them growing up and leaving home. I need all the prayers I can get!!! |
Awwww, Nancy. Hang in there. Change is rarely easy, but you might be surprised at all the possibilities that open up for him and you will share in his successes.
Rhonda |
