Default Quanity of food on Core

I have just been looking at the menus of different people and I realize that we really aren't eating that much, are we? I mean, when on points I ate a whole lot more, was not as satisfied, always thinking about what I could eat next. So I'm thinking that somewhere along the way, we just got out of sync with our bodies and didn't have a clue just how much or little we really need to eat in a day to keep our bodies going strong and healthy. I mean some of you are exercising a whole lot and still eating light--and I'm betting that the portions you are eating are still a whole lot less than you thought you wanted or needed before.

What got me thinking was when Shiela (I hope I have that right) asked about not getting in her milk and veggie quota and if she was susposed to eat them even though she wasn't hungry. I noticed what she had today and it was a very balanced diet (well, she could do with a little more milk ) and she exercises like a madwoman. Then I counted up mine and I had 3 milks (cause I love the stuff) and 2 veggies and 4 fruits. And I THOUGHT I was eating a whole lot of them everyday but turns out I am just getting in the recommended amount but still feeling very satisfied.

How about it. Let's compare notes. If you counted your servings, would you have the recommended amounts? (I'm not saying we HAVE to have them, just though it would be a good topic to explore).

Gotta go check them taters!

Janette---good point! I have noticed the same thing. In my head I was thinking I was getting in so many more fruits and veggies but when I started adding them up it was usually only 5. That is the rec. amount but it could be more but when would I eat them? I list snacks on my menus but usually those are only if I need them and I haven't been needing them anymore. I am really not as hungry as when I started Core even. Some days I find myself at 7pm making myself eat dinner so I won't skip it. It is hard to explain but it is like I stay never hungry/never full? Kind of a happy medium all day. That is a BIG change for me. I was always starving at dinner before.

You make a good point but one of the reasons MOST people are feeling more satisified is they have cut out the 'simple' carbs which spike the insulin levels quickly then crash quickly. You are eating more of the foods that keep these levels at an even keel and secondly you are eating foods that tend to take longer to digest and be processed by the body.

I have never been unsatisified on any of W/W programs because (as I have stated over and over) I spent my points or exchanges or selections on the 'Core-type' foods rather than junk.

No I am not saying that everyone did spend points on junk but many did....which left them longing for or unsatisified for more food.......

Essentially it boils down to QUALITY of food....

I so agree with all of you! When I was lurking before starting Core, I was amazed at how little everyone ate and thought "this doesn't sound like me", but here I am doing it! I used to be starving by 2:30 p.m. (and totally exhausted) after eating a huge lunch at noon and snacking on goodies afterwards at the office. I too have to force myself to eat dinner. It felt so good to go to bed last night not feeling bloated from too much food.

I'm getting in the recommended amount of fruits and veggies which is much better than I did before, even though I've always eaten healthy, or so I thought. Healthy at meals with junk in between.

The recipes posted here keep me from getting bored with just grilled chicken. The simple dish, Avocado Swiss Chicken, is wonderful! I may never eat plain chicken again. But now I'm getting off topic so I'll close.

I have trouble eating the 2-3 dairy every day. So, I take a calcuim supplement.

I also read every one's menus and wonder why we eat so little. I feel like I eat about twice as much dinner as everyone else post they eat. But, I may have eaten twice as much dinner as everyone else BEFORE I started CORE. Dinner is a huge to do with me. I love lots of side dishes.

I also do something that is NOT CORE. I eat one item that is not Core everyday. It may be 5 mini chocolate chips, 1 potato chip, 1 wheat thin cracker, or 2 peanut M&M's. I do not want more than a taste and have no problem eating only 1 chip. Wendesday night I took 2 peanut M & M's to the movie with me. I have found that 2 is just right for me and I feel just as good as if I had eaten the whole bag.

Kelly, that makes a lot of sense. I wondered why I wasn't eating as much on Core. I'm just simply not as hungry as I used to be, and some days actually have to remind myself to eat.

I couldn't agree more....I too have felt the same way... so full after what seemed so little. The RIGHT choices are making the difference. I too find that I do not have the "I'm starving" feeling. Core most certainly keeps me satisfied longer.....all goes to better choices.

GREAT point Janette!!! Linda (LJ)

As most of you know I don't do Core but a combo of Flex/Core (to clarify I use portions and points w/Flex and try to use as many whole and CoreFoods from the list I can) and I used to try to get people who said they were hungry (before Core) to use more whole foods and show how they too could be satisified rather than all the 'junk' points (for lack of a better term).

I just started the Core program today. Can we have oatmeal cereal for breakfast and a potato or spaghetti for dinner. Or is it only one starch per day?

We may have cereal once a day -- cold cereals must be eaten with milk but I don't believe you must have milk with hot cereal.

We may also have potato OR brown rice OR whole wheat pasta once a day. So, you can have cereal for breakfast and still have a potato, whole wheat pasta or brown rice for lunch or dinner.

You can have oatmeal as much as you want in a day. It does NOT fall in the cereal category. I eat Steel Cut oats for breakfast and sometimes as a snack and sometimes as my dessert.

You can only have one starch a day as "free". If you want say potato for lunch and WW pasta for dinner then you would have to count the points for ONE of them.
