Cant believe it's end of Sep. See you all in October thread
  • Hello all. In 2013 I joined this forum. I think my starting weight then was about 240 lbs. In just under a year I got down to 170 then started maintenance but did not stick to a diet. Within a few years, I was back up there.

I started to lose weight 11 days ago after a doctor's visit. The orthopedic told me that I was way overweight, which I already knew of course. Then he told me that if I lost a lot of this weight many of my problems would cease to exist. I had weighed in at 255. A few days later I decided to cut back and lose weight and size again. My back is in awful condition with arthritis and all, diabetes, high blood pressure, and Cartledge is gone in my knees. I can only stand for a short time until my back hurts so bad I have to sit.

Over the past 11 days since I started I am down 16 lbs. I know that most of that was water weight and expected a fast drop at first and that the hard part is just beginning now.

When I lost weight the last time I did a lot of walking (about 10 miles per day) and work making my garden plus working in my trade as an electrician. I made my own diet and ate spicy meals consisting of vegetables like squash, tomatoes, okra, bokchoy with a lot of spices like chilies, oregano, coriander, lime juice, cilantro etc. and would place that over a bed of rice and sometimes with beans.

I would have snacks of like cucumber with hot sauce on them and would start my day out with slicing up a cuke and placing hot sauce and lime on it which was tasty and filling with almost no calories and would last me to about noon.

This time I cannot exercise like I did before so I have to do it all by cutting down on my eating and I plan on eating similar to like I did last time being as it was tasty food, did not leave me hungry ( I do not do hunger well) and worked.

I think this is enough about me to give you a general idea of who/what I am.

I hope to lose another 80 or 90 lbs and hope I keep it off.

I will add that I am now 82 years old

  • Good night all! Power walked to and home from supper tonight. Ran errands on the way home. 😁🍁😷📚
  • Welcome Big Fat Rooster! Wow, I just walked one mile at 3mph on my treadmill and that was good enough for me, I can't imagine doing ten. But I aspire to increase my mileage because I think I only burned about 100 calories in 20 minutes.

Gained a pound from going out to dinner yesterday and a bit of stress eating too due to work chaos (a big piece of chicken) which is annoying but now I'm on my one week off break, and I hope to get to the 170s before I end up back at work...see you all in the October thread.
  • Good morning! Welcome back Big Fat Rooster! Will have breakfast in a few minutes. 😁🍁😷📚

Copied from Crosswalk Devotions for Dieters

    September 30

    Psalm 27:14
Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.

Kerri wished she could lose weight just a little bit faster. She really didn't have anything to complain about. Since she started her diet, she had consistently lost. There were days, though, when she simply got tired of dieting. She doubted whether she was ever going to lose the weight she wanted to lose. All those times, she turned to God for encouragement. Talking to the Lord always made Kerri feel better. She really believed that He knew what she was going through. If God could be patient with her when she complained about her diet, she figured she could be more patient as she attempted to lose weight.

Today's thought: Without patience, I'll never lose weight!
