  • Good morning and Happy Saturday.

Glorious "summer" weather here yesterday. We broke records and will do so again today. The Village is busy as folks shake off the winter blahs. Bob's Diner was so busy yesterday I had to sit outside for my coffee. I did garden cleanup at the Church and the Fairground and it felt wonderful to be back in my outside routines.

Cousin Ian was in the village putting in the boats and dropped around so I did not get my deck cleaned off for a BBQ last night. Today I'll power-wash it and definitely BBQ tonight. I am really craving grilled veggies! I have to put together my new compost bin too and get it in place.

So today will be an outside day and tomorrow will probably be more of the same. I'm crossing my fingers that this really is an early Spring but will be kind of waiting for the other shoe to drop.

    Wishing you days.
  • Good morning Ruth
It sounds like you're making the most of the beautiful weather! You must have slept well last night.

The weather was terrific here too, and is supposed to be even warmer today. Fergie and I are headed to Massachusetts to have Easter with my parents but we're leaving early so we'll have most of the day to be outdoors there. I imagine my mom and dad will be as anxious to enjoy the sunshine as we are. I'm hoping we'll be able to get our first kayak ride of the year this afternoon, but we'll see what's going on when we get there.

    Enjoy your Saturday friends
  • Good morning! Ruth and Heidi, I hoped you saved me a cup of coffee!

Ruth, you sound very chipper this morning! There's nothing like a fresh, warm shot of Spring to cure the winter blues. I can just picture Bob's Diner bustling with the locals, and am looking forward to having lunch there with you one day soon.

Heidi, have a safe drive down to Massachusetts, and have a wonderful Easter weekend with your parents!

I had a great time in the city yesterday and got back late last night. We went to one of my favorite stores, Lush, and I treated myself to a lot of pampering. Caite and Carley wanted me to stay the night at their place so we could do facials, but I have too much that I want to do today to get ready for Easter dinner.
So we're heading out the door for our usual Saturday breakfast and grocery shopping. Dustin has begged me to make rice pudding, so I'll get that made right after we get home. I don't dare post the recipe for that, since it's pure Food Porn. But don't worry, I have no intention of indulging.
Jake wants to run out to the plant nursery to see what they have, so I guess we'll be taking a nice ride out there later today, and spend the rest of the day in the garden.

I hope everyone is being blessed with the glorious weather that we're being treated to this holiday weekend!
  • Good morning early birds

Ruth - Do you put the veggies right on the grill? Or skewer them? Marinate or season? I have decided that roasted veggies taste better than other versions and bet grilling would do the same thing to bring out the flavor.

Heidi - You are a kayaker too! Why am I not surprised. So my husband really wanted one for his 40th bday, 10 years ago. He got it, but there are not many places to kayak in land-locked Kansas!

Cottage - I haven't had rice pudding in years. Yum. Glad you had a fun girls day.

I am glad to have you here so early to make me smile. DH did something to his back helping at his mom's yesterday and has been groaning and snoring since 3am. I don't think I have had a decent night's sleep since I hurt my shoulder and finally gave up trying. I am grouchy. Add in my out of control eating which was indeed reflected on the scale today. Sigh. But as always you brighten my day and bring me optimism.

Have a great weekend all. BBL.
  • Good morning Quick fly by this morning because we are running out to the Cove for a little early birding to start the day. It's beautiful again and I will be in the garden as much as possible.

Karen - Can the doctor give you something for pain? I'm not a big fan of meds but nothing will drag you down as fast as too little sleep. Maybe just something you can take at night?

I'll be back later. Hope your weekend is starting out just right
  • Good morning all. I just dropped DD2 off to work at the Lion's Club Breakfast so I am up and at 'em early this Saturday. I decided all the sheets and blankets needed washing so I am trying to get them all on the line. DD and DS have horseback riding lessons at 10 - 12, so I'm going to grocery shop and pick up a few more things for the Easter baskets. I think DD1 wants me to help her move a few more pieces of furniture into her apartment this afternoon. And speaking of DD1, her 23rd birthday was
Weds. She went out with some friends to celebrate and ran into John Gosselin. She said he was buying her drinks and talking about his family. I think it's very creepy for a grown man and father of 8 to be bar-hopping and buying drinks for little girls. I guess some people never grow up.

I sure wish I could get out in the yard this weekend, but don't think I'll have the time. I'm planning to just plant some spring crops - lettuce and spinach mostly, since we'll be gone a good part of the summer.

Pondering packing a picnic and heading down to the tidal basin to see the cherry blossoms tomorrow morning. Peak was a few days ago, but should still be pretty. I like it when all the blossoms are falling like snow too. We don't have any plans except going to my mom's for dinner. My assignments are an appetizer and a veggie side, so I can get those done tonight.

Ruth, I hope your other shoe does not drop.
    Cyndi, enjoy your outing!
    Heidi, have a great weekend.
cottage, my niece is a huge Lush fan. I've never tried the stuff.
Karen, sorry you're out of sorts. Hope you both heal quickly!
  • Good morning, what a beautiful day here.

Ruth - You are on the roll with gardening. Record breaking weather for sure.

Cottage - enjoy your breakfast and preparing for tomorrow's feast.

Heidi - having Easter with parents is nice. Enjoy it.

Karen - A hubby with back problems is no fun, I know.

Cyndi - Have fun birding and gardening.

Schmoodles - Sounds like the kids are keeping you busy. Those cherry blossoms must be beautiful. Is it earlier this year.

me - gardening, last minute baking (making chocolate mock cake for me). Going to a very long church service tomorrow.
For those celebrating tomorrow have a good one.
    take care
    Sophie.
  • Afternoon all! I worked on my paper until 1a and slept until almost noon! opps!

Ruth - Yay for good, nay GREAT weather!

    Cottage - yay for pampering!!!

Heidi - Have a nice Easter with the family!

Karen - Go take a nap

Cyndi - Have fun birding!!!! Take lots of pics.

Schmoodles - They were really white on Thursday so you still have a good chance of seeing them. Unlike each time my MIL comes - it rains and there is wind and she sees them on the floor!

Sophie - have a great day!

For me I am finishing my paper and going to go food shopping. OH and shower. But first, I need some coffee!!!
  • Hi Everyone

Just stopped in, and noticed my post this AM didn't "post".. Reception isn't the greatest here and I really have wi-fi issues. So all I can say at this point is Hi and I hope you all are having a great weekend. I'm heading into Denver soon.
  • Cyndi - It isn't that it hurts too much to sleep - it is that I can't sleep on my side like I am used to. Funny how that makes a huge difference. And every once in a while it wakes me up when I move my arm. That does hurt!

Schmmodle - I love your action avatar!

Sophie - Have a nice holiday.

Jenne - Funny you should say that... I just woke up! Not the best nap since the doorbell kept ringing. Now I am heading out for a walk to see if that wakes me up.

Debbie - Drive safe. Catch you later.

Trying to wake up and get energy. Makes me wonder if last night's overeating is adding to my dragging. Hmmm. I will be glad to just get through the day.
  • I forgot all about my haircut!!! Luckily, I remembered in time. Then we went food shopping. Ph1 starting Monday - tomorrow Ph2 because DW is making eggs benedict and I am making pasta for my Easter dinner. We're going to see a movie too but I am going to sneak in my own popcorn or chick peas Shhhhh
  • I'm drooling over the idea of Eggs Benedict for breakfast but will settle for some Fibre 1, yogurt and strawberries. We are having Claire's homemade hot cross buns at Church coffee time and I need to steel my resolve. There's an Easter egg hunt for the kids too. All our kids are generous so I'll have to take some eggs "for later" and then ditch them.

After Church, we are off to the Pypers farm near Ottawa for Easter dinner. Disney loves it there but it'll be a first for wee Jazz. It should be interesting to see his first encounter with chickens, pigeons, pigs, cows and some of the 14 cats! It's to be another record-breaking day and I'm looking forward to a lovely drive.

I hope you do something festive and springlike today. Happy Easter!

  • Good morning Looks like just a normal weekend day for us. DW isn't feeling well so no traveling. I really don't mind staying home, the weather is perfect and there is so much yard and garden work to do. I'll also get a walk or two in to look for migrating birds. I do love this weather. Hope you enjoy your day whether it's festive or quiet
  • Good morning and

Ruth, I remember how much you enjoy eggs benedict! Enjoy your Easter service and the hot cross buns. I'd love to indulge in one, too, but think I'll settle for French toast with blackberries at Cracker Barrel. Have a great day and a safe drive up to the Pypers and back.

Cyndi, I'm sorry Julie isn't feeling very well this morning and hope it's not anything serious. It sounds like you'll have a pleasant day at home, though.

We're having a big family Easter dinner here this afternoon, and Jake is hosting his annual Easter Egg Hunt for the little ones. It's going to be another glorious day to be outside.
  • Good morning! HAPPY EASTER!

Ruth - enjoy the drive and all the festivities. My dog would way too much enjoy a farm! (but so would I )

Cyndi - Hope DW starts feeling better. I enjoyed my time tending to my yard yesterday, hoping to get more in today!

Cottage - we're having friends over too, I enjoy cooking. The only problem is, the cleaning!

SO, this is not a very beachy weekend, between baking the rest of the cookies from DS's bday, and making the most fabulous rolls ever today. Where's that thread that Waisting Time started? I think when I run more, I feel like I can eat more, whether or not I should be. I actually feel quite yucky from having that cookie last night, makes you all bloated when you're not used to it.

But, looking forward to a beautiful day in the yard, and cooking, and with friends. Have to look at the weather, see what it will be...I think it's warm enough for salads? I do have a conference in Baltimore Thurs PM - Mon PM, THAT'S going to be tough!! (although, much easier by myself then with kids!)

    Have a great Easter all!
