Phase 2 and honey and molasses

  • I know phase 2 foods to avoid include honey. Our local, specialty bread company's whole wheat bread is make from ground whole wheat flour, water, yeast and salt plus honey, molasses, or high fructose corn syrup.

Is the honey and molasses going to cause problems for me?
  • Keep an eye on the label, if there is one.
<4 grams of sugar is the best, but try some, IF you lose weight then it is ok for YOU, but if it sets you up for cravings, then X it out of your eating plan. Years ago I was taught that sugar had to be 4th or more in the list to be considered "legal"!
This is YOUR eating lifestyle and it is up to you to make healthy decisions.

Someone else here will be able to give you the facts on it, so this is only how and what I would do.

  • I have used some of the atkins flavored syrups and sugar free diabetic maple syrup as subs for these things. Last night I took some ricotta cheese, some sugar free cocoa powder, sweetner and mixed it with some atkins vanilla flavored syrup (this is an adaptation from my italian grandmother who used honey). I also added some almond slivers and you can also add some fresh raspberries to this and it is very yummy (and with the additions definately a phase 2 delicacy!)
