Atkins to Sugar Busters

  • Hi everyone. I just wanted to see if anyone else has gone from Atkins to Sugar Busters. I am on day 4 or is that 6 lol I forget. I just wanted to know if anyone else has done this. How successful where you. Did you gain weight initially and do you ever get over the guilty feeling for eating carbs?

  • Hello Katie... I did the Atkins program for just over 1 year. I just grew more and more hungry for carbs especially fruit. I also don't like much meat and had started to really dislike meats. I switched to SB and wow what a improvement. I feel healthier, enjoy my meals and frankly am a much nicer person. During my period on Atkins I had to start chemo-therapy and the program just wasn't what I needed. The switch to SB was wonderful for me then and is still great. I've been losing weight slowly but that's my own fault for eating larger servings. There are many gals here that have made the switch and they all seem happy.     Thanks Lori for your response. I am glad that you feel better. I mean that is really what this is all about right? I am pretty happy with this to. Atkins makes you lose weight quick but if you have a forbidden carb you gain it right back so quickly. That is what I am going to like about this way of eating. I am hoping to lose between 12 and 20 pounds. We shall see how I feel after I hit 170.

    Sorry about the chemo. That is tough.

    I, too, was on Atkins for 2 months. Although you can lose the weight quickly, you can put it on more quickly by eating just a few carbs, because you are consuming so much fat in your diet. I lost 8 pounds in the first month, and then went on vacation for a few days. I stayed on plan, except for the last day, when I ate a few no-no's (nothing too bad). When I got back, I had gained 5 pounds back. With this WOE, I can have a little splurge once in awhile and I don't gain at all. I know to just "splurge" in moderation, and not get carried away.

    I had a problem with so much meat and all the fat. I do have the low-fat frame of mind, and now that I combine lower fat with no sugars, I am on a roll.

    In comparison: I was on Atkins for 2 months and lost 13 pounds. I have been on SB for 1 1/2 months and have lost 8 pounds. I am exercising and drinking my water, and I don't overeat all the time like I found I was doing on Atkins. I do eat fruit now and lots of veggies, and feel so much better.

    I only did Atkins for a few months, so getting over the carb thing only took a few days. My mom asked me that other day how many carbs was in something, and my response was, "I don't know, but the sugar content is ____ grams." It's funny how you can train your mind. I will never eat all that evil sugar again!

    Pancho that is what I am hoping for. Better eating habbits but when I splurge I dont gain tons of weight back. I also found that with Atkins. I cant see how that would be good for your body. I am really hoping to see some weight loss in the next couple of months. I will keep you posted .

  • I'm converting over from the Atkins diet as it just doesn't seem to be for me. A gal at my Jazzercise class does this SugarBusters, so I thought I'd try it.

    I'm looking for something to help me drop 10 pounds, relatively quickly, and something that I can continue to follow for the rest of my life. I don't want to have to diet anymore. Is this a good plan for that?

    If anyone has other plan suggestions, chime on up. I've pretty much removed myself from the carbs (potatoes, pasta, bread, tortillas --which KILLS me) but I do enjoy an occasional Mich Ultra now and then. I need a diet that doesn't plummet your system back out of kilter if you have a few beers on the weekend while still watching out for those bad carbs.

    Any thoughts?
  • Hi glad you dropped by! This board is much more active! I wanted to let you know that the main the action happens on the weekly support board. They start one post every week and everyone just keeps replying to that post. Keeps the server from having to store a lot of stuff.
  • I just got off Atkins too. I feel kind of scared eating so many fats. I am going back to sugar busters. My husband has had incredible luck with sugarbusters. This is my first day. I pray for results. I sure enjoy a bowl of shredded wheat instead of eggs and cheese all the time.

    I have been on atkins for 5 months and I want to change to sugar busters, but am so afraid that I will gain weight....actually I started 3 days ago, and I have gained five lbs back...Yugh...this morning i ate:

    1 cup of uncle same cereal
    1 cup of skim milk
    1/2 cup of berries

    1/4 cup of walnuts
    one cup of low fat cottage cheese....

    Is this an ok diet...I was still so hungry after I ate breakfast that I ate the cottage cheese at 9:00 am...

  • Well I think it is just a little more safe as far as cholesterol. My hubby has lost 40 lbs on sugar busters and eats just fine.

    Actually my cholesterol has gone to to almost normal 206....and my triglycerides which were at one time 980....with medication I got them down to around 500.....and now after 5 months of atkins, they're under 200.....which is incredible....

    for lunch I had a hamburger patty on a small, low sugar bun made by nature's own...

    Do You have to limit the food on sugar busters.....or is it like atkins where you can eat when you're hungry and not be limited by calorie count?...
  • Sugar busters recommends eating 3 meals a day with no more food than a dinner plate can hold. The recommend chicken and fish so it's kind of watching calories and fat as well as sugar. You can have brown rice and whole wheat pasta which is nice.
  • Hi there! I'm also a former Atkid. I only lost 13 pounds doing Atkins for about a year (you could say I hit a major stall) -- then gained back all thirteen, plus 4 more.

    I've only been doing SB for a couple of days, but already it seems so much more liveable. Plus, I had to sacrifice a lot of my favorite foods on Atkins, like brown rice and black-eye peas. I think this will be a change I can stick with.

    Interesting story: I knew a lady on another board (a low-carb board) that did Atkins for a year, and only lost 3 pounds. She started doing Sugar Busters instead. Within six months, she had dropped 45 pounds. So, for some (and hopefully me!) this is a wonderful plan. Good luck to everyone!

    wow!! you must be my clone..or at least my twin. I just switch over 8 days ago..I knew after three days of the Atkins I wouldn't be able to make it a lifetime habit. our hight and weightare almost identical..well, I am a long drink of water compared to you..5'3. Good luck!
  • Adkins vs Sugar Busters
    When you think about it Adkins and Sugar Busters are very similar. I try to follow Adkins and try to stay under 60 grams and I basically it's eating like Sugar Busters. I feel much better and don't crave sweets as much.
